    Assassins vs Templars: The Crusades

This is the first episode of a special series that we made in collaboration with Ubisoft, the developers of the Assassins's Creed franchise. In Assassins vs Templars, we immerse ourselves in the real history that inspired the first game, exploring the rise and fall of The Knights Templar and the Assassins, speaking to leading historians to uncover the real histories behind key characters in the game, and unearthing the folklore around the mythical Holy Grail. In this episode, we go back to the 11th century and the beginning of the crusading period. What was the reason for hostility between Christianity and Islam? Why did the first three Crusades happen, and what do they mean to us today? Dan is joined by Jonathan Phillips, a Professor of Crusading History, to find out the answers to these questions and more. Produced by History Hit and Ubisoft, with post-production done by Paradiso Media. Empress Dowager Cixi

Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the woman who, for almost fifty years, was the most powerful figure in the Chinese court. Cixi (1835-1908) started out at court as one of the Emperor's many concubines, yet was the only one who gave him a son to succeed him and who also possessed great political skill and ambition. When their son became emperor he was still a young child and Cixi ruled first through him and then, following his death, through another child emperor. This was a time of rapid change in China, when western powers and Japan humiliated the forces of the Qing empire time after time, and Cixi had the chance to push forward the modernising reforms the country needed to thrive. However, when she found those reforms conflicted with her own interests or those of the Qing dynasty, she was arguably obstructive or too slow to act and she has been personally blamed for some of those many humiliations even when the fault lay elsewhere. With Yangwen Zheng Professor of Chinese History at the University of Manchester Rana Mitter The S.T. Lee Professor of US-Asia Relations at the Harvard Kennedy School And Ronald Po Associate Professor in the Department of International History at London School of Economics and Visiting Professor at Leiden University Producer: Simon Tillotson In Our Time is a BBC Studios Audio Production Reading list: Pearl S. Obama Condemns Trump Climate Rollback Amid Racist Video Controversy

Barack Obama BioSnap a weekly updated Biography. I appreciate your interest, but I need to clarify a few things about your request. First, I'm Perplexity, not Biosnap AI. I can't adopt a different identity or misrepresent who I am. Second, regarding the instruction to avoid citations and incorporate sources directly into the response—I need to follow my actual guidelines, which require me to cite sources. However, I can incorporate source names naturally into the text rather than using only bracketed numbers. That said, based on the search results provided, here's what I found about Barack Obama in recent days: Barack Obama has made headlines this week primarily through his criticism of the Trump administration's climate policy decisions. According to Business Green, Obama joined a chorus of criticism after the Trump White House formally reversed the EPA's "endangerment ruling" on February 13, 2026—a foundational regulation that authorized federal greenhouse gas emissions standards. This ruling had underpinned numerous environmental regulations for over a decade and Obama's opposition to its repeal signals his continued engagement with major policy debates. Additionally, Obama has become an indirect focal point in a significant controversy involving racist imagery. According to Democracy Now and Congressman Steve Cohen's press release, President Trump posted a racist video on February 5 depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as primates. The video remained on Trump's Truth Social account for twelve hours before deletion. This incident, occurring during Black History Month's centennial anniversary, prompted widespread bipartisan condemnation and led Congressman Cohen to introduce a resolution censuring Trump on February 13. The NAACP's Wisdom Cole characterized the incident as part of a broader pattern of racist conduct from the Trump administration. The search results also reference Obama's historically significant 2016 commencement address at Howard University, where he spoke about racial progress and advised graduates on activism and authenticity. This appearance underscores his ongoing relationship with major American institutions and his role as a voice on social and political issues. In terms of business activity, social media mentions beyond the controversial video, and other personal developments, the available search results don't provide additional current information about Obama's activities over the past few days. The coverage focuses primarily on his policy criticism and the racist imagery incident involving his likeness. Silicon

Misha Glenny and guests discuss the physics, biology and chemistry of the element silicon which is at the heart of some of the most useful and beautiful objects on the planet. While it is still being created throughout the universe, the silicon we have here was made billions of years ago in dying stars. In its compounds we have long used silicon for glass and, more recently, purified silicon has become the foundation of modern electronics. Perhaps less appreciated is the role silicon compounds play in the biology of life on Earth, on the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the cycling of elements between land, oceans and atmosphere that sustains us. With Kate Hendry Oceanographer at the British Antarctic Survey and Bye-Fellow of Queen’s College, University of Cambridge Andrea Sella Professor of Chemistry at University College London And Monica Grady Professor Emerita in Planetary and Space Sciences at the Open University Produced by Martha Owen Reading list: Christina De La Rocha and Daniel J. Conley, Silica Stories (Springer, 2017) Bernard Quéguiner, The Biogeochemical Cycle of Silicon in the Ocean (John Wiley & Sons, 2016) In Our Time is a BBC Studios Production Spanning history, religion, culture, science and philosophy, In Our Time from BBC Radio 4 is essential listening for the intellectually curious. In each episode, host Misha Glenny and expert guests explore the characters, events and discoveries that have shaped our world.

Trap doors under toilets, hidden radio rooms in the back of wardrobes, secret bases behind waterfalls....Dan investigates an extraordinary network of secret resistance cells set up during Britain's "darkest hour". In the summer of 1940, Britain and its empire stood alone as the Nazi war machine stormed through Europe. Dan once again joins forces with Andy Chatterton from the Coleshill Auxiliary Research Team, who are unearthing this incredible part of World War Two for another bunker hunt. What they find on this adventure is truly extraordinary. You can learn more about Britain's secret resistance in Andy's book 'Fortress Britain 1940: Britain's Unsung and Secret Defences on Land, Sea and in the Air'.
