White noise is the most commonly used sound for babies, it helps them sleep and reduces anxiety. The womb sound can help babies fall asleep because it mimics their mother's heartbeat in the womb. Sounds with a slow tempo that is soothing for babies and adults. Lullabies are songs that have been traditionally sung by mothers to their children to lull them into sleep. Many different sounds can be used to help babies relax and sleep. One of these sounds is the womb sound. Another type of sound that is often used for relaxation is brown noise or white noise. Brown noise is a type of sound that has a low frequency, which means it sounds like it’s from far away, like the ocean or a waterfall. White noise has a higher frequency and sounds like it’s from close by, like rain or wind. The womb sound is a type of brown noise that is supposed to be calming and relaxing. It is said to be one of the babies' most popular sleep sounds. This sound has been proven to help babies sleep faster and sleep better. This is because it mimics the environment in the womb, where they are surrounded by this type of sound. On the other hand, the white noise sound has been proven to help babies sleep longer and stay asleep longer. This type of sound helps block out other noises that can disrupt their sleep, like noisy traffic outside their window. Babies can be very sensitive to their environment. They are still developing, and their brains are not yet fully developed. That’s why it’s essential to provide them with a soothing environment to help them sleep better. Babies have a lot of work to do before they can sleep. They must regulate their body temperature, digest food, and eliminate waste. Babies are also trying to figure out how to get comfortable in the world. All this work takes energy, and it is exhausting!

Send us a text Are you tired of feeling embarrassed when your toddler won’t share? In this episode of Talking Toddlers, Erin Hyer, speech-language pathologist and early development specialist, breaks down what’s really happening inside your child’s brain when they say “mine!” You’ll learn why true sharing isn’t developmentally possible before age 4, how playdates often set toddlers up for stress (and shame), and simple ways to build calm, language-rich moments of connection at home. Erin also reveals how early turn-taking builds the foundation for real cooperation — without guilt, begging, or over-coaching. === 🌟 Join the Inside Talking Toddlers community for exclusive deep dives and get Erin’s free guide: Top 10 ESSENTIAL Skills For Talking. 94: Good Consistency vs Bad Consistency

In this week's episode of Oh Crap Potty Training, I’m diving into something I see over and over with parents—how consistency can make or break your potty training journey (and your parenting in general). We chat about how anything done repeatedly becomes a habit, whether it’s good or bad. So if your kid is peeing on the floor every day, guess what? That’s their new normal. I’m breaking down why we sometimes let these patterns slip, how our toddlers are always watching and learning, and why you need to step into your leadership role as a parent—no asking for permission! We’ll talk about shifting from bad consistency to good consistency, and why building that solid foundation in the 0-6 years is key to everything down the road. Rock on, and let’s get you out of that pee-on-the-floor phase for good! 88: Parenting Just in the Moment vs the Long View

In this week’s episode of Oh Crap Potty Training, I’m focusing on the importance of balancing short-term wins with long-term goals in parenting. We’ll look at why quick fixes, like keeping your child in a crib or using sleep sacks, might feel easier now but can create challenges down the road—like dependency or bedwetting. I also discuss why proactive steps, like early night training and introducing your child to public restrooms, are essential for building long-term confidence and independence. Parenting isn’t just about managing the moment; it’s about making conscious choices that set our kids up for success in the future. 87: When You're Too Controlling

In this week’s episode of Oh Crap Potty Training, we’re tackling the tricky topic of rewards and consequences in potty training—and parenting in general. I explain why rewards can actually lead to more problems, especially with young kids, and how we can shift from a controlling approach to one that supports autonomy and self-mastery. I also share thoughts on natural consequences, why it’s so important to give our kids more responsibility, and how these strategies build confidence in their ability to manage their own bodies. 86: Toy Time Outs

In this episode, I talk about why using toy timeouts during potty training might not be the best move. Taking away a beloved toy can actually make your child feel unsafe and insecure, which isn’t what we want when we're helping them learn. For kids under six, immediate and relevant consequences work best, as they can’t always grasp delayed actions. I also share why nurturing your child’s learning process through connection and curiosity is far more effective than using external rewards or punishment. 89: Are You Being Inauthentic When Potty Training?

In this week’s episode of Oh Crap Potty Training, I’m talking about something that trips up a lot of parents: staying authentic during potty training. It’s easy to slip into “teacher mode” with a serious voice and extra pressure, but that can put your child on high alert and actually slow down progress. I share how to approach potty training as your real, everyday self—mistakes, messes, and all—so your child feels safe and supported during this big milestone.
