Little Kids: How To Make Mealtime Less Boring

Welcome to This Glorious Mess Little Kids. A twice-weekly look at parenting as it really is - confusing, exhausting, inspiring, funny, and full of surprises. So many surprises!

We all love dinner time, but trying to get our kids to love it is a whole other story. So is there any way to make mealtime fun for you and your little ones?

This week Tegan and Leigh are joined by Amina Elshafei, a pediatric nurse and former Masterchef contestant. Amina shares her best tips for creating meals that the whole family will enjoy and how to get the kids helping out in the kitchen.

Plus, Babyproofing. Is there a good way to it, without it looking, well... ugly?

Big Kids: What Kind Of Kid Have You Raised?

Big Kids: What Kind Of Kid Have You Raised?

Welcome to This Glorious Mess Big Kids. A twice-weekly look at parenting as it really is. Confusing, exhausting, inspiring, funny, and full of surprises. So many surprises.

The science kids vs the artsy kids, it's an age-old debate. But what if we have been looking at it all wrong?

What if instead of grouping our kids into two groups we saw creativity as crucial to solving STEM-based problems?

Holly and Andrew are joined by the authors of the Wednesday Week’s series Cristy Burne and Denis Knight to chat about why creative thinking might be the key to solving some of our biggest global problems and why we should encourage our kids to think the same.

Plus, this week's listener dilemma... can you force another child to come to your kids birthday if their parents said no?

Little Kids: Are Our Boys And Girls All That Different?

Little Kids: Are Our Boys And Girls All That Different?

Welcome to This Glorious Mess Little Kids. A twice-weekly look at parenting as it really is - confusing, exhausting, inspiring, funny, and full of surprises. So many surprises!

Are our boys and girls innately differently? Or are we nurturing them with gender in mind?

Last week, we looked into how we can better nurture our boys but today we're switching gears and focusing on our girls. What can we do to support them best? Or should we be raising our little girls and boys the same, regardless of gender? To help us unpack this Tegan and Leigh are joined by clinical psychologist Rachel Samson.

Plus, what do you call your kids toys? Do we let our kids take the lead or should we inspire them with some more creative choices...

Big Kids: Just Seven Smart Opinions On Getting Your Kid A Phone

Welcome to This Glorious Mess Big Kids. A twice-weekly look at parenting as it really is. Confusing, exhausting, inspiring, funny, and full of surprises. So many surprises.

"Having a smartphone device does not actually add any positive value to our kids' lives. We just give in because everyone else did"  - Anonymous listener

This week at Mamamia HQ we received a pretty distressing voicemail from one of our listeners. She said that her 'happy go lucky' daughter has 'developed the language akin to a drunken sailor, become argumentative and moody' all because of a chat room app.

For this one, we asked the village. We asked you what you really think about phones and socials, how have you made them work? What kind of boundaries have you put in place? Has your family had positive experiences?

Plus, we brought in an expert, Kirra Pendergast from Safe On Social to help put this whole socials debate to rest.

    Little Kids: Taming Boisterous Boys

    Little Kids: Taming Boisterous Boys

Welcome to This Glorious Mess Little Kids. A twice-weekly look at parenting as it really is - confusing, exhausting, inspiring, funny, and full of surprises. So many surprises!

How can we better raise our boys? How do we deal with their physical demands, their tantrums, their energy?

In the first episode of our two-part special, we're investigating the gendered differences and similarities when it comes to raising our little ones. And for this first episode, we're focusing on our boys!

We're unpacking our own subconscious bias when it comes to gender, nature vs nurture, how we can exercise sensitivity, why roughhousing might actually be helpful and how to tame the inevitable tantrum.

Plus, we have a listener dilemma from a mum who's having trouble sleep settling her little one.

Maya' Mum ,

These two are the parents I wish I was!

I thought I was going to be the easy going, go with the flow, laugh it off parent before having kids! I’m not! But I listen to these two, I live vicariously through them both!
Such a good laugh & an awesome insight & even a good bit of real parenting advice!
(BTW, Holly & Andrew,I think your doing a great job at this whole parenting thing it too!)

Roxy142142 ,

Mixed feelings - great listen, bad advice

I am a long time listener to TGM, and have always loved Holly and Andrew’s take on parenting. I have listened to the Little Kids version since it started as my kid is in the 0-5 age group, but while I enjoy listening to Leigh, I really struggle with a lot of the content and advice offered. The ‘expert’ guests are often instagrammers or reality show contestants, not actual experts. There is constant talk from both hosts but particularly Tegan about boys and girls and horrible stereotypes that are so so outdated. So often the advice that is given by the hosts and by the ‘experts’ is not in line with current research and best practice.
Highly recommend the Big Kids version as a super fun listen, but am tapping out of Little Kids.

katiekateho ,

Love little kids!

Always look forward to listening to Leah and Teagan keeping if real!!Please keep up the podcasts and the honest chat. Thankyou
