Little Kids: A Firefighter Mum’s Winter Safety Wisdom

Little Kids: A Firefighter Mum’s Winter Safety Wisdom

Winter’s here.  And with it comes hot mugs of tea, fleecy slippers, and of course… the heater.

Leigh and Tegan talk to Kath Faith, a firefighter at Fire and Rescue NSW, about fire safety and how to best keep you and your little ones safe.

Plus, Leigh’s one year old toddler has finally started daycare! But what she didn’t count on was having to do dress-up week… EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Would you get your little one in on it, or do you think they wouldn’t even realise?

    The Great Australian Holiday Quiz

    The Great Australian Holiday Quiz

Whether you’re on a family road trip or sheltering to stay safe at home, we all need new ideas for entertaining the kids these holidays. So wherever you are, Holly and Daddo are testing your knowledge of the "land down under" with this Australian-themed quiz.

Play along and pit siblings against each, or go head to head with the kids and see if you can guess which Australian animals are the most dangerous, and of course who doesn’t love a ‘guess that sound’ quiz!

Make sure to tell us how you did! We always want to hear from you on the pod phone 02 8999 9386.

Big Kids: “Why Do I Hate My Teen Wearing Crop Tops?”

Big Kids: “Why Do I Hate My Teen Wearing Crop Tops?”

Every parent knows there’s a moment when you suddenly lose the right to comment on how your kid dresses. But what happens if the way they’ve started dressing makes you… uncomfortable?

We have a listener dilemma about exactly that, and there seems to be a great divide between Holly and Daddo about it!

Plus, Holly’s going away with a couple of her friends, and wait for it… SEVEN KIDS! Putting that aside, the real question is whether she takes the iPad and her phone or should she leave it in the car and have a tech free holiday? What would you do?

Little Kids: ‘Is My Toddler A Bully?’

Little Kids: ‘Is My Toddler A Bully?’

It can be really difficult when you see your toddler being “bullied” by another child. And maybe it’s even more distressing when you see your little one being the aggressor. We had a listener email us about exactly that.

Leigh and Tegan speak to Kay Bussey, an Associate Professor in Child and Adolescent Development from Macquarie University, Sydney about why toddlers can be “bullies”.

Plus Leigh’s WTF of the week turned into a light bulb moment when she saw Alexander unrolling the toilet paper! But instead of getting upset she appreciated his cute little smile and joined him in play! Anyone else’s OCD kick in for a split second there?

Big Kids BONUS: Road Trip Conversations That Matter

Big Kids BONUS: Road Trip Conversations That Matter

Should our kids be wearing masks? Should they be striking for climate change? Should they be dreading next Summer’s fire season?

These school holidays, if you’re travelling with the kids, you might need to tackle the big issues that swirl all around us right now.

Where’s the line between informed and panicked? What responsibility do the old owe the young when it comes to the planet? How do you answer a corona-panicked kid asking: ‘Am I going to die?’

On this special bonus episode Holly and Andrew chat to Dr. Norman Swan, Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg and Varsha Yajman on how to talk to your kids about Coronavirus, bushfires and the ongoing climate change.

Big Kids: ‘I’ll Never Let My Kids Read Their School Reports Again’

Big Kids: ‘I’ll Never Let My Kids Read Their School Reports Again’

Do you let your kids read their report cards? Would you hide it from them so you don’t hurt their feelings?

Well, Holly learnt her lesson when she opened Matilda and Billy’s report cards at the dinner table, and it didn’t go down too well. Now she’s doing a social experiment and not going say anything at all…. Do you think they’ll even notice?

Plus this week Andrew had a massive fail when he tried to “fix” his wife Jacqui's beloved electric bike. Let’s just say it’s not electric anymore.

My Bible

I have been listening to TGM since before I fell pregnant with my first son in 2015 and have soaked it in ever since!

The introduction of Little Kids had me a bit thrown initially as I have small kids but love Andrew and Holly. Now I listen to both and get the best of both worlds 🌏

TGMLK

Not a fan of this one. The topic from last week - toddler bullying - is ridiculous. Sounds like a bunch of mums in the school yard gossiping. The comment about PC nursery rhymes - oh my goodness, they are nursery rhymes, just sing them to your child! There appears to be a lack of common sense from the hosts when they make comments on particular topics. The guests I liked - Dr Kyla and Maggie Dent - actually know what they’re talking about. If you’re going to keep the LK podcast, then keep the informed, educated guests coming.

Love Big Kids

Big kids, would love to hear more of Holly and Andrew. Less interviews. The banter is awesome. 5 stars for them.
Little kids, the hosts have great chemistry together but I don’t think they are right for this podcast. Leigh comes across as a judgmental first time mum. The bullying episode was infuriating to listen too. I think maybe someone with older and younger children with that longer experience would be a good fit.
