What Did Trump Actually Get From Xi?

This week on American Power, Nat Towsen, Chad Scott and Matt Randolph break down the Trump-Xi summit, the limited agreements that came out of it, and why both countries may be more interested in buying time than resolving their biggest disputes. Then, the conversation turns to the AI race. Is competition with China becoming an excuse for American tech companies to race ahead without meaningful guardrails? The team examines the national security risks, enormous financial incentives and growing argument that slowing down AI development means letting China win. We’re always looking for new opportunities to partner with creators, companies, politicians, and organizations that share our mission. Could the Last Two Years of Trump Be the Most Dangerous?

Time is running out for Donald Trump and he, and the rest of the world, knows it. This is concerning - how much more damage will he wreak knowing the end is near? Will nations like China and Russia see these coming years as a window of opportunity, a way to take advantage of Trump’s imbecility on the global stage to further their own geopolitical agendas? Max Boot of the Council on Foreign Relations joins David Rothkopf and Rosa Brooks to take a look at foreign relations as we approach the end of Trump 2.0 and how they may ultimately be the most dangerous yet. We Need to Talk About Ethics Reform

In the fifth and final installment of our Hot Supreme Court Reform series, Kate speaks with Gabe Roth, executive director of Fix the Court. What would a meaningful and enforceable set of ethics rules look like for the Supreme Court justices? Why isn’t there an Inspector General for the judiciary? How are there no real rules around recusals? Roth makes the case for these nonpartisan reforms and more. Take the Strict Scrutiny survey. New Strict merch available here. A New Term of Supreme Chaos

It’s been a long summer, but Leah, Kate and Melissa are back together to break down the biggest cases and legal battles coming to the Supreme Court this term. Starting in October, the justices will hear challenges involving AR-15s and semi-automatic rifles, religious exemptions for schools receiving government funding, and the latest redistricting fights in Missouri and the 8th Circuit. Plus, Trump’s big arch updates and allegations that a government contractor illegally funneled nearly $200,000 to a Susan Collins super PAC. Then, Melissa sits down with National Association of Black Journalists President and Crooked’s Long Play cohost Errin Haines to discuss news outlets suing the President over press access. After, Leah talks to Columbia graduate and author Mahmoud Khalil about his new book, No Land to Stand On, the administration’s crackdown on pro-Palestinian speech, and the treatment of people in ICE custody.  Favorite Things:  Leah: ProPublica | Gil Duran, Nerd Reich; Naomi Klein & Astra Taylor End Times Fascism | Alyssa Edwards’ response to Ken Paxton  Kate: Daniel Immerwahr’s How to Hide an Empire | Ari Berman and Pema Levy in Mother Jones on Callais and the New New Jim Crow | Nikole Hannah-Jones’s NYT Piece  Melissa: Propublica’s piece on Susan Collins |  Charles Spencer, Swan Song | Raphael Warnock, The Crooked Parts Made Straight | Zak Cheney-Rice, No One Can Fix School Segregation Alone | Stacey Abrams at LCCR Gala  Take the Strict Scrutiny survey. The Daily Blast: Trump’s Fury at Canada Takes Darker Turn as GOPers Quietly Sound Alarm

Donald Trump’s ban on a range of Canadian imports just went into effect, and The New York Times calls this a sign that the trade war has grown “vicious.” In a rambling tirade this week, Trump upped the ante in a dark way, calling Canada “one of the worst countries in the entire world.” Trump also said almost in passing that we get along with China better than we get along with Canada. We think it shouldn’t pass unnoticed just how casually Trump will toss aside a longtime ally. Trump also unleashed his top trade adviser to say sneeringly nasty things about Canada and Canadians, another sign that MAGA nationalism is growing more malicious. Meanwhile, Republicans tell the Los Angeles Times that the trade war is really bad news for the GOP. In one focus group, almost all swing voters in Michigan opposed it. We talked to New Republic contributing editor Virginia Heffernan, who’s been writing well about the economic roots of GOP midterm woes. She explains why it’s so dumb of Trump to order Americans to hate Canada—and why it’s all tailor made to get MAGA-adjacent “diesel class” voters to turn on Trump.  Looking for More from the DSR Network? Lawfare Daily: Did Washington Walk Into Beijing’s Trap? Xi’s State Visit with Jonathan Czin

Lawfare Public Service Fellow Julia Curlee sits down with Jonathan Czin, the Michael H. Armacost Chair in Foreign Policy Studies and fellow in the John L. Thornton China Center at the Brookings Institution, to unpack Xi Jinping’s state visit to Washington, his first in 11 years. The two former CIA and National Security Council colleagues discuss what each side walked away with, including a two-month extension of the trade truce and potential channels on artificial intelligence and military crisis communications. They look at the implications for Taiwan, the war in Iran, and how the loss of China expertise and policy staff showed in the summit’s preparation and readouts. #686: Technate Checkmate

Trump announced that Greenland has agreed to allow two new American military bases to be built on the permafrost, while also securing the mineral rights and other “economic privileges” for the Empire to exploit. Is the 1932 Technocracy movement primed for a revival now that the American Empire is trying to lock up everything from Greenland to Venezuela? Cuba must know they are next, so is there anything that can stop the ambitions of the technocrats before things get out of hand? Possibly, but it also feels as if nobody is coming to save anyone this time. --- Charlie's New Book: The Octopus Of Population Control - Paperback, Kindle, & Audiobook Macroaggressions www.Macroaggressions.io | Merch Store | Link Tree Video Channels: Rumble | YouTube | Brighteon Activist Post: Newsletter Sign Up Audiobooks: Hypocrazy | The Octopus of Global Control Support Our Sponsors Replace Your Mortgage: www.WipeOutYourMortgageNow.comGround Luxe Grounding MatsC60 Power | Promo Code: MACROChemical Free Body | Promo Code: MACROWise Wolf Gold & SilverLegalShield: www.DontGetPushedAround.comEMP Shield | Promo Code: MACROChristian Yordanov's Health ProgramAbove PhoneVan ManThe Dollar VigilanteAugason Farms

Trump & Xi - Managing the Mirage: Ann E. Kowalewski

Michael is joined by Ann E. Kowalewski, Vice President at Beacon Global Strategies and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Indo-Pacific Security, to discuss the outcomes and regional fallout of the latest summit between President Donald Trump and People's Republic of China (PRC) Leader Xi Jinping. Ann breaks down the core dynamic she describes as "spectacle and small potatoes"—where both leaders project an image of managed bilateral stability while quietly executing competitive economic hardening behind the scenes. She also explores how Beijing prepared for a second Trump term by sharpening its economic retaliation playbook—from critical mineral export controls to the "unreliable entity" list—and examines why symbolic fentanyl tariffs and reciprocal trade frameworks have not addressed deep-seated industrial subsidies. Ann analyzes why slow-walking Taiwan arms sale packages and softening rhetoric on China weaken deterrence across the Taiwan Strait, the strategic calculations driving Beijing's timeline, and why the burgeoning "Axis of Upheaval"—linking China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea—demands a fundamental rethink of Western sanctions enforcement and economic statecraft.
