A Tween Parenting Shift for the AI Era (Introducing The In-Between Years)

If you’re parenting right now, it can feel like the world your kids are growing up in is changing faster than you can understand it. AI. Social media. Phones. New technology showing up everywhere. And many parents are wondering the same thing: How am I supposed to guide my kids through something I barely understand myself? Today, we're sharing a short clip from a new Good Inside podcast called The In-Between Years, hosted by clinical psychologist Dr. Sheryl Ziegler. Each week on the show, Dr. Sheryl talks with real parents about the questions that start showing up during the tween and teen years — the moments that feel confusing, scary, or totally new. In this conversation, a mom of a 9-year-old admits something many parents feel right now: AI feels like the big bad wolf and she has no idea how to talk about it with her kids. What Dr. Sheryl says next reframes the entire problem. If you have a tween or teen — or you know those years are coming — I think you’re going to love The In-Between Years. New episodes drop every Wednesday; follow the show on Apple or Spotify so you don't miss a single one! Hit-and-run, mom vs. dad clean & is golfing too much a red flag?!

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, someone hit our PARKED car and drove off… which quickly turned our neighborhood into a full-blown detective operation. Ring cameras were reviewed, theories were formed, and the neighborhood group chat is working overtime trying to figure out WHO hit the car. Before we get there, we talk about the emotional side of preparing for baby #2 — including the weird “grief” mom’s experience going from one kid to two — and when toddlers ACTUALLY understand there’s a baby in mom’s belly. We also debate whether you should FaceTime your toddler while traveling or if it actually makes things worse, plus the classic travel dilemma: wait out a flight delay or just start driving. Then we get into some cultural debates: are men welcome at pilates, and is “plays too much golf” actually a relationship red flag? We also recap Harrison’s birthday and share a quick house update, plus a pro tip we learned after the hit-and-run: experts recommend replacing your car seat after an accident (+ the important step of marking the old one as CRASHED before disposing of it so it doesn’t get reused).  We wrap with Bicker of the Week: mom clean vs. dad clean (very different standards), the first time someone is mean to your kid, whether reality TV makes people more dramatic, the weird way AI seems designed to flatter us… and the family bathroom debate continues. OH and Burger King called us back!!!  LOVE YOU GUYS. Thanks for listening!!! How Forcing Kids to Do Stuff Backfires (And What to Do Instead)

A parent describes the power struggles he and his partner go through with their daughter to get her to brush her teeth. The process has deteriorated into a wrestling match. While on the one hand, the parents feel it's their responsibility to make sure their toddler's teeth get brushed. On the other, they sense that they are damaging their relationship, perhaps permanently. This dad writes: "Part of me thinks a calm, confident leader just gets it done, but getting it done currently means two adults restraining a screaming, fighting child."  Janet offers a different perspective on toothbrushing and other daily routines that emphasize cooperation over control.  Janet's "No Bad Kids Master Course" is available at NoBadKidsCourse.com and JanetLansbury.com. A Week of Spray Tans, Chess, and New Bravo Casts

This week, I went to St. Louis for a day to visit Evelyn and cooked up another job for me to do with Straight Dave. I made it back to NY in time to take Ben to a Chess tournament, which he loved. Then maybe hated? John got a spray tan that I had strong opinions on, which is saying a lot coming from a tanning lover. We spent a lot of time on Barbra’s most recent Instagram post. Then, I had a mini meltdown over having to plan a Spring Break trip AND a birthday party for Lucy (note to Daryn: get a Cat Cafe on the phone, immediately). Plus, SO MUCH Bravo to talk about: The Traitors finale and reunion, Potomac reunion, the new seasons of RHONY and ATL...an embarrassment of riches!
