Today we welcome Kendra Swalls to the podcast. Kendra started out as an Elementary School Teacher with a photography biz side hustle. Her photography business grew, and she was able to quit her teaching job. Along the way, she met people who were impressed with how she grew her business and she began teaching and mentoring others to do the same!
Kendra shares her journey building her business through “Relationship Marketing” – being intentional with building connections with your audience and not looking at your audience as just a number on your social media page - not just looking at them as a transaction.
Kendra has built a thriving online and in-person community supporting other photographers. This happened very naturally by talking, listening, and sharing with other photographers she met. She always thinks about how she can help and serve her audience with her online community and with her lead magnets. This draws people to her!
Kendra shares her love of automation – to build relationships and grow your business with ease. She closes us out with tips to prioritize relationship marketing in your business – how can you make each person in your community feel like the most important person in your community? I’m so excited to introduce you guys to Tricia Wheeler today! Tricia hosts the most magical space in Columbus, Ohio called The Seasoned Farmhouse - where you can have fun gatherings with all your friends and biz besties. Tricia grew her original business, a background screening company, to 450 clients in 10 years and then sold the business and went to culinary school – the only thing she ever REALLY wanted to do!
After culinary school in New York, Tricia returned to Columbus, OH and opened The Seasoned Farmhouse - a beautiful space where she and her chefs dream up seasonal classes year-round. She went to culinary school and built The Seasoned Farmhouse while her daughter was very young – specifically because she wanted her daughter to see her in the process of building a business she was passionate about.
Tricia shares the benefits of going back to school as an adult and, if you’re nervous to take the risk, consider the lifestyle owning your own business will afford you in the end. She also recommends testing your concept on a smaller scale before taking a big leap! This can help you build confidence to take the next step towards living the life of your dreams!

I’m excited to have PR Maven, Ashley Spriggs, with Pivot Media on the podcast today. Ashley handles a lot of our PR on the back end and I can’t wait for you to hear some tips about leveraging PR at any stage of your business. Ashley started out as a counselor with a PR “side hustle” in 2017. She formerly launched her business in 2020 - BUT she wishes she would have jumped in sooner! Her business is now thriving, and she says – don’t let fear stand in your way! 
We dive into the trends in PR and media right now and Ashley shares that podcasts are HUGE. In the past two years, they have become the number one driving force for media. If you don’t have a podcast, she recommends showing up regularly on social media and in your emails. Go live! Share the behind-the-scenes and be CONSISTENT! Also, be relational and find connections with people. 
Let’s say your goal is to do more interviews to increase your visibility. What happens when you actually get the interview? How do you relate to people? First, Ashley says you MUST be confident in your message! You must believe it is truly valuable. Then, be intentional with your answers so that it fits your interviewer’s audience. Don’t just give the same answer to everyone! Find a way to relate and make connections with both the interviewer and their audience. Also, don’t be afraid to start a podcast of your own and use social media as a place to expand connections.
