Holy geek! Decision Space has been nominated for a Golden Geek award again. Thank you all so much for voting, truly. With that out of the way, this week we are giving Quantum our traditional Decision Space deep dive treatment. We will explore why the game's efficient use of dice feels simultaneously, foundational, thematic, and efficient. We also talk about end-game dynamics, if this space game feels like chess, special powers, and so much more. Interdecisional Spaceship travellers, join us in the magic circle and let's explore Quantum!

    Episode 166 - Revisiting Games
Golden Geek, Golden Geek, Golden Geek! That's right, it's pledge week here on Decision Space. Please consider nominating us for best podcast in the golden geek awards on BGG. In this week's episode. Jake and Brendan talk about revisiting games. What causes us to dust off and revisit a game after it has been on the shelf for some time? Are there some qualities that make a game more revisitable than others? Is revisitability even a word? Don't answer that last question. After an initial discussion, Jake and Brendan dive into some games that they have been revisiting lately and there experiences with them. Enjoy, Decisionaughts, and ask yourself, did I do my part... to nominate Decision Space for a golden geek award.

A premier board game podcast!

This is one of the best board game podcasts currently running. The content is uniquely thoughtful and interesting. Singluar among content creators are the single-game deep dives and topical expositions. They don’t shy away from analyzing either heavy or light games, and they appreciate the genius of Dr. Knizia (aka Rhino Knizz)! Brendan and Jake have a fun, engaging dynamic that make each show a joy to listen to. Do yourself a favour and subscribe to this show!

Top Shelf Boardgame Podcast

Decision space is a wonderful podcast. As a sign of how good, I downloaded itunes just to be able to rate and leave a review. I don't do that...
The discussions go into the weeds of what makes boardgames, boardgamers and boardgaming tick. They're happy to steer clear of a simple soundbite to give a much more complex and considered take on the hobby. And the discussion doesn't end when the show closes - over on the Discord, the community chimes in and builds. Jake and Brendan are active participants. It's just a big whack of great feels and a platform for an expanding the boundaries of what boardgames can do and be.

Unpacking why we enjoy games

A wonderful blend of game review and design analysis, Decision Space has been a great new addition to my regular podcast listens. I really appreciate Brendan and Jake's efforts to ask questions about what makes a game interesting and why different types of people will find it fun, through the lens of the decisions a game asks you to make and how those can make you feel. The series has helped me to understand more about what kinds of games bring me the most joy and giving me words to describe why that is to others. This has helped me to look critically at my game collection, gaining a new appreciation of the games I already own and diving deeper into what they have to offer. I'd like to thank Decision Space for helping me gradually build up a resistance to the "cult of the new". :) The hosts have an easy banter between them and while they have built up a potentially esoteric vocabulary about how to talk about games and game design, I feel like they've resisted the urge to become too academic and have kept the podcast accessible to any neophyte while still offering plenty to chew on for the dedicated hobbyist. In other words, the perfect game design "gateway" podcast. :) Keep up the great work!
