Power Of Women Podcast

Di Gillett

The Power Of Women Podcast taps into the wisdom, experience and hard-won insights of extraordinary women - women who've done the hard yards, lived, struggled, built, rebuilt and are succeeding. Host Di Gillett knows what that looks like firsthand. She spent over 30 years building a career in executive search before walking away from it - by choice, to dedicate herself to championing women through this podcast. At 59 she staged her own reinvention. At 62 she's fitter and stronger than at any point in her life. This isn't a woman who stumbled into a passion project. It's a woman who looked at three decades of success and decided the next chapter mattered more. Through powerful storytelling, we showcase what has shaped us, challenge the narratives that have held us back, and remind every woman that reinvention has no age limit. And if you're a younger woman, this podcast gives you something most of us didn't have at your age… a roadmap. A chance to learn about courage, resilience, self-trust and ambition before life forces you to. A front-row seat to the stories that will one day guide your own. 🎧Listen in, because these are the stories proving women are never to be underestimated. That's the legacy we're building - episode by episode. 🎙️ Follow the podcast, leave a review, and subscribe so you never miss an episode. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Why You Silence Your Voice. And How To Reclaim It | Emmanuella Grace

Most women don’t lose their voice, but learning how to use it with impact – this is the conversation you need to listen to. Emmanuella Grace has stood on some of the most demanding stages in the world, from the Royal Albert Hall to the Sydney Opera House, and she has spent the years since teaching business leaders how to do under pressure what she once had to learn under lights: own the sound they make in the room. This conversation traces the psychology of self-silencing back to where it starts. And it isn’t about lack of confidence or capability. It’s something far more physiological, and far more universal. In this episode, Di and Emmanuella Grace discuss the amygdala hijack and why it hits professional women mid-sentence at the boardroom table, the socialisation that teaches women to qualify themselves before they’ve made their point, and why introverts may be outperforming extroverts on every stage that matters.   We explore:: The amygdala hijack: why fear behaves identically in every brain, regardless of gender Why socialisation, not capability, is the real reason women learn to edit themselves before they speak The generational shift in how women are taught to use, and lose, their voice Why introverts are outperforming extroverts on stage, and what that means for how we coach leaders What it takes to reclaim a voice that was trained into silence.   Chapters 00:00 The Power of Women: Introduction 06:10 Generational Perspectives on Voice Ownership 14:10 Navigating Fear and the Amygdala Hijack 17:48 Women Supporting Women: The Dynamics of Workplace Relationships 22:00 The Role of AI in Shaping Voices and Perceptions 25:31 The Virtuous Cycle of Audience Engagement 29:39 Understanding Voice Projection and Accents 30:25 The Connection Between Mind and Body in Voice 32:07 Understanding Introversion and Extroversion in Communication 36:59 Authenticity and Finding Your Voice 43:32 Mastering Authentic Communication   Be the first to catch inspiring interviews, empowering stories, and thought-provoking conversations. 🎧 Watch and subscribe to: YouTube | Spotify | Apple Podcasts. ✔ Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeuAx74qUBrHxaQPEnxRpTw?sub_confirmation=1 ✔ Follow on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4hUXLl9Oc8xSSmR652wP3c?si=554c1a25f0e848a8 ✔ Follow on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/power-of-women-podcast/id1735659590 ✔ Follow on the website: https://powerofwomen.com.au/podcast/   Who is Emmanuella Grace? Tracy Hall | The Psychology of Financial Scams, Romance Scams & Who’s Vulnerable

She was 40 years old, newly separated, and a senior marketing executive with 25 years when she stepped onto a dating app for the first time. And the man she met, Max Tavita, did not exist. Behind the name was Hamish McLaren: one of Australia's most prolific conmen. A man who weaponised psychology, manufactured credibility, and ran the same intimate fraud playbook for 30 years across multiple continents. His estimated global losses: up to $100 million. Tracy Hall lost $317,000 - her superannuation, her financial foundation. And she was the only one of his 15 Australian victims in a romantic relationship with him. Today, Tracy is an international keynote speaker, the author of The Last Victim, and one of Australia's most authoritative voices in scam prevention and fraud psychology. She has turned the hardest chapter of her life into a mission. In this conversation, Di Gillett and Tracy Hall examine how sophisticated scammers operate: the psychological tactics, the manufactured trust, the exploitation of vulnerability windows. They also tackle the systemic failures: why dating platforms still operate without meaningful identity verification, why financial crime victims are treated differently to victims of physical crime, and what 'trust literacy' means as a practical, learnable skill in the age of AI and deepfakes.   We explore/Key takeaways: Why everyone has a window of vulnerability The psychological architecture of intimate fraud, step by step Tracy's 'trust literacy' framework for holding trust and critical thinking in the same hand Practical red flags to recognise manipulation before it takes hold - including in the age of AI and deepfakes Why victims of financial crime deserve the same recognition as victims of physical crime How to rebuild when it feels like your world has been dismantled.   Chapters 14:06 Understanding the Scammer's Mindset 17:48 Psychological Architecture of Fraud 23:01 Rebuilding Trust After Betrayal 24:46 Victims of Financial Crime: A Neglected Perspective 30:15 Trust Literacy: Navigating a Distrustful World 34:07 Identifying Red Flags in Various Contexts   Be the first to catch inspiring interviews, empowering stories, and thought-provoking conversations. 🎧 Watch and subscribe to: YouTube | Spotify | Apple Podcasts. ✔ Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeuAx74qUBrHxaQPEnxRpTw?sub_confirmation=1 ✔ Follow on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4hUXLl9Oc8xSSmR652wP3c?si=554c1a25f0e848a8 ✔ Follow on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/power-of-women-podcast/id1735659590 ✔ Follow on the website: https://powerofwomen.com.au/podcast/   Who is Tracy Hall? Janine Allis | The Federal Budget has the Potential to Destroy Business and Aspiration.

Kudos to Janine Allis for being outspoken on the impact the Federal Budget will have on business and aspiration. Founders are calling it a tax on ambition. The rules changed after the risk was already taken. And the people this reform claims to help will be the ones paying for it. Janine Allis built Boost Juice Bars from a single store into a global retail network, backed founders as an investor, and mentors the next generation through The Business Academy. Whilst she has no doubts as to whether having a go is worth it, she certainly has questions around the fairness of changing the rules, and the viability of pursuing business opportunities is Australia. In this episode, Di and Janine Allis discuss the fallout from the Federal Budget - the CGT changes, negative gearing reforms, and whether the divide between a young founder and one with decades invested is about to get a lot wider. The Budget didn’t kill ambition, but it made it a whole lot more expensive.   We explore: •     Why Janine calls these tax changes a tax on ambition, not a correction. •     What a Budget like this teaches an aspiring entrepreneur before they've even started. •     Why the 25-year-old founder and the 55-year-old founder are not taking the same hit. •     Why Australia's capital gains tax rate is now a signal to build elsewhere. •     Janine's advice for the next female founder considering the leap.   Key takeaways: •     The founders taking the biggest hit are the ones this reform claims to protect. •     Ambition survives bad policy. It just gets more expensive to hold onto. •     Having a go was always a risk. This Budget raised the price of taking it.   Be the first to catch inspiring interviews, empowering stories, and thought-provoking conversations. 🎧 Watch and subscribe to: YouTube | Spotify | Apple Podcasts. ✔ Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeuAx74qUBrHxaQPEnxRpTw?sub_confirmation=1 ✔ Follow on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4hUXLl9Oc8xSSmR652wP3c?si=554c1a25f0e848a8 ✔ Follow on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/power-of-women-podcast/id1735659590 ✔ Follow on the website: https://powerofwomen.com.au/podcast/   Who is Janine Allis? Workplace Discrimination : Who Decides When We Are Too Old to Work? | Jacqueline Freeman

When does experience stop being valued? At what age? Experienced women are being systematically sidelined from the workforce from the age of 40. The average unemployment timeline for over-50s in Australia is 86 weeks. Cognitive peak occurs in the late 50s. And the retirement age in Australia is 67. It’s 65 in New Zealand. You do the math. Yet, organisations continue to treat experience as a liability while calling it something more palatable such as restructuring, over-qualified, budget constraints. In this episode, Di Gillett and Jacqueline Freeman get straight to the point. This is not a feel-good episode. It is a thought leadership conversation with real intellectual teeth, and actionable insights for the woman who has ever felt the system beginning to look through her - rather than at her. Your experience isn’t baggage. It’s leverage.   We explore: 💡  Age discrimination in the workplace 💡  Retirement age and employment challenges 💡  Unconscious bias in hiring practices 💡  The mental health impact of age discrimination 💡  The value of older workers 💡  Strategies to combat workplace discrimination 💡  The future of age inclusivity in employment   Be the first to catch inspiring interviews, empowering stories, and thought-provoking conversations. 🎧 Watch and subscribe to: YouTube | Spotify | Apple Podcasts. ✔ Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeuAx74qUBrHxaQPEnxRpTw?sub_confirmation=1 ✔ Follow on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4hUXLl9Oc8xSSmR652wP3c?si=554c1a25f0e848a8 ✔ Follow on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/power-of-women-podcast/id1735659590 ✔ Follow on the website: https://powerofwomen.com.au/podcast/   Who is Jacqueline Freeman? Ultra-Processed Food Is Poison. Here's What To Do About It | Kate Save

Ultra-processed food now makes up 40% of the average Australian diet. In America, it's 70%. And we are following that curve. Kate Save has spent 20 years on the front line of what happens to bodies when people eat what the food industry tells them is food. As a clinical dietitian, exercise physiologist, diabetes educator, and founder of Be Fit Food, she has watched chronic disease accelerate, mental health deteriorate, and a healthcare system that responds to illness rather than preventing it. This conversation does not gloss over the impact of; we are what we eat. We interrogate the weight loss drug industry, dismantle the myth of BMI, name the crisis in preventative health, and lay out exactly why ultra-processed food is not a grey area. Kate also delivers three specific, actionable changes every Australian woman can make today. No 12-week program. No sign-up. Just the truth about food, and what to do with it.   Key topics: Why ultra-processed food is not a grey area — and how to identify itThe weight loss drug industry: what no one is telling you about long-term relianceWhy BMI is an unreliable health metric and what to measure insteadThe sick care system versus a genuine healthcare system — and the cost of that gapThe link between diet and mental health, including a 32% remission rate for depression with a Mediterranean diet versus 7% with counselling aloneHow body composition, visceral fat and muscle mass are the real markers of healthThree practical changes every Australian woman can make todayHow to navigate food choices during travel, busy schedules and social eatingThe truth about carbohydrate intake as we age — and why muscle mass is non-negotiable  Be the first to catch inspiring interviews, empowering stories, and thought-provoking conversations. 🎧 Watch and subscribe to: YouTube | Spotify | Apple Podcasts. ✔ Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeuAx74qUBrHxaQPEnxRpTw?sub_confirmation=1 ✔ Follow on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4hUXLl9Oc8xSSmR652wP3c?si=554c1a25f0e848a8 ✔ Follow on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/power-of-women-podcast/id1735659590 ✔ Follow on the website: https://powerofwomen.com.au/podcast/   Who is Kate Save? Women Leading in Construction: How She Built it | Anne Michaels

Women have made serious inroads into residential property development. But commercial? That is a different game entirely. Larger assets, deeper pockets required, longer timelines, and a network of decision-makers that has, for decades, looked almost exclusively male. In Australia, you can count the women leading commercial development businesses on one hand and still have fingers left over. Anne Michaels is one of them. She didn't just enter this space. She bought a heritage bank on one of South Melbourne's most storied streets, assembled an almost entirely female project team, built a seven-level commercial development through a global pandemic, eleven interest rate rises and a work-from-home policy that threatened to make the entire asset irrelevant - and came out the other side with multiple industry awards and a building she intends to be heritage in its own right one day. Anne is the founder and managing director of sheBuilt, a Melbourne-based commercial property development company she established in 2016 with a single, unapologetic intention: to give women the opportunity to lead, excel, and leave their mark in one of Australia’s most male-dominated industries. Are Women Going Backwards? The Impact of Algorithms & Government Inaction | Jas Bedir

The question isn't comfortable, but it does need to be asked. Mainstream culture keeps insisting that women have never had it so good. The boardroom diversity reports are framed as wins. The International Women's Day cupcakes are distributed with enthusiasm. And yet something doesn't add up. The data on regression in gender equality is mounting. The algorithmic pipeline from mainstream social media to radicalised misogyny is documented. And governments around the world, despite the evidence, have chosen to look the other way. To put that into context, think about learning framework for AI and what historical narratives are being ingested. In this episode, Di Gillett is joined by Jasmin Bedir, CEO of advertising agency, Innocean Australia and founder Fckthecupcakes (FTC) and her candour is both refreshing and at times, confronting. They interrogate whether women are genuinely going backwards, who is manufacturing the backlash, and what role technology - specifically AI and social media algorithms is playing in cementing discrimination that was supposed to be dismantled. They name the non-negotiables: what governments must mandate, what platforms must be held accountable for, and what women can collectively do right now to force the conversation out of the think-piece and into legislation.   We explore:: AI algorithms are not neutral — they reflect and amplify the biases embedded in the data and the teams that built themThe absence of government regulation on social media and AI is not a failure — it is a deliberate choice, and women need to make that choice politically costlyPerformative corporate activism actively distracts from the structural change that is neededThe manosphere is not a fringe phenomenon — it is algorithmically amplified, and platforms profit from itCollective action by women does not mean waiting for an invitation to the table — it means building a different table entirely  Chapters 05:24 Assessing Progress: Are We Moving Forward or Backward? 10:56 The Role of Men in Gender Equality 16:46 The Intersection of Technology and Gender 20:54 AI and Its Impact on Gender Discrimination 32:22 The Call for Regulation and Action     Be the first to catch inspiring interviews, empowering stories, and thought-provoking conversations. 🎧 Watch and subscribe to: YouTube | Spotify | Apple Podcasts. ✔ Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeuAx74qUBrHxaQPEnxRpTw?sub_confirmation=1 ✔ Follow on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4hUXLl9Oc8xSSmR652wP3c?si=554c1a25f0e848a8 ✔ Follow on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/power-of-women-podcast/id1735659590 ✔ Follow on the website: https://powerofwomen.com.au/podcast/   Who is Jasmin Bedir? Yasmin [Yas] London has worn many hats: elite athlete, police officer, cyber safety expert, keynote speaker, founder, author, and now - a woman who has stepped fully into a purpose-led life. In this episode, Yas talks with Di about the identity crisis that followed missing the Sydney 2000 Olympics at eighteen. About coming out and having to earn her place - literally changing how she looked, just to be accepted by the community she was trying to belong to. About thirteen years in the NSW Police Force and what it teaches you about human behaviour when you're standing at the edge of a cliff with someone at 3am. And about why she built First Movers: because women and girls are still being conditioned to wait. She's done waiting. About
