By all means, share your subjective experiences of neurodivergence and mental health conditions such as anxiety snd depression. However, rather than explicitly saying dyslexia or adhd ‘supercharges’ anxiety (which is hugely reductionist), look at the published research into neurodivergence, anxiety and anxiety disorders, and reference it. The research exists.
It can be helpful and bring comfort to others to talk about your experiences. But it is not helpful when you talk about nonsense and call it ‘truth’, or frequently reference pseudoscience as ‘fact’, both of which the host does. This is extremely concerning as he claims expertise and runs courses on neurodivergence.
For example, ‘right brain’ or ‘left brain’ dominant thinking which the host mentions an awful lot, is pseudoscience. It is a myth. Right or left brain dominant thinking was disproven by neuroscientists at least a decade ago. Again, look at the published research.
In his latest episode, the host talks about anxiety. He says ‘how do we know that, in ten seconds, an asteroid is not just going to hit the earth, goodbye, gone, everyone is disappeared, now I’m not hoping for that, don’t get me wrong, but it’s the truth, right?’
Well, no, actually. Wrong.
Humanity, or some of us, are aware this utter nonsense is not ‘the truth’. Multiple defence satellites observe and record space in our solar system, including space around Earth. Any one of those satellites would spot an asteroid hurtling towards Earth and vastly more than ten seconds before it entered the Earth’s atmosphere or hit the Earth. In fact, most asteroids, even smaller ones, within our solar system can have their trajectory plotted. NASA even has a planetary defence system which is still in development, to prevent asteroids hitting the Earth in the future. So no, the possibility of an asteroid hitting the earth in ten seconds with humanity having no knowledge about it and being wiped out is not ‘the truth’. It is nil.
The host talks about awareness, but he needs to be aware of the validity of the information he is sharing on this platform and because he seems to hold a position that claims to educate people.
The host runs courses on neurodivergence but what qualifies him to do this? Is he a medic? An occupational or clinical or functional psychologist? Is he a healthcare professional? I would be extremely cautious about taking any ‘course’ claiming to teach anything from a chap who spouts the above nonsense, evidently doesn’t engage with published research, and engages with substantial amounts of pseudoscience.
