White noise is the most commonly used sound for babies, it helps them sleep and reduces anxiety. The womb sound can help babies fall asleep because it mimics their mother's heartbeat in the womb. Sounds with a slow tempo that is soothing for babies and adults. Lullabies are songs that have been traditionally sung by mothers to their children to lull them into sleep. Many different sounds can be used to help babies relax and sleep. One of these sounds is the womb sound. Another type of sound that is often used for relaxation is brown noise or white noise. Brown noise is a type of sound that has a low frequency, which means it sounds like it’s from far away, like the ocean or a waterfall. White noise has a higher frequency and sounds like it’s from close by, like rain or wind. The womb sound is a type of brown noise that is supposed to be calming and relaxing. It is said to be one of the babies' most popular sleep sounds. This sound has been proven to help babies sleep faster and sleep better. This is because it mimics the environment in the womb, where they are surrounded by this type of sound. On the other hand, the white noise sound has been proven to help babies sleep longer and stay asleep longer. This type of sound helps block out other noises that can disrupt their sleep, like noisy traffic outside their window. Babies can be very sensitive to their environment. They are still developing, and their brains are not yet fully developed. That’s why it’s essential to provide them with a soothing environment to help them sleep better. Babies have a lot of work to do before they can sleep. They must regulate their body temperature, digest food, and eliminate waste. Babies are also trying to figure out how to get comfortable in the world. All this work takes energy, and it is exhausting!

I would LOVE to hear your thoughts! Drop me a DM over on Instagram @themompsychologist so we can keep this conversation going! All my love, Dr. J ❤️ Important note: This applies to neurotypical children or when neurodivergence has already been considered. If your child might be neurodivergent, the "perfect at school, difficult at home" pattern often indicates masking and genuine depletion rather than boundary-testing. It's *still* important to focus on guiding children's behavior through respectful boundaries, teaching, and clear expectations.  Wanna go deeper?

What About the Siblings?Raising Multiple Children When One Has ADHD S1//E5

When one of your kids has ADHD, everything starts to revolve around them, their routines, their emotions, their struggles. But what about the other kids? The ones who don’t have ADHD? It’s so easy for them to feel pushed aside, like they’re not getting the same attention. So how do we make sure they don’t feel invisible or start resenting their sibling? Today I want to talk about how we can keep things balanced at home without anyone feeling forgotten, because every child deserves to feel seen and loved.

Emotional issues. How to avoid overreacting. Vintage

Ask Rachel anything None of us likes blowing a fuse when our teen does something that triggers us, but we all do it at some point.  Nicky asked us to discuss this topic after she felt she'd overreacted to bad feedback from her son's teachers. We know it fixes nothing and leaves us feeling worse than before, but can we keep smoothing it over with an apology?   Click the link at the bottom to access all the tips from the episode and also a parent’s worksheet to help you unpack your feelings: https://open.substack.com/pub/teenagersuntangled/p/how-to-avoid-overreacting-and-why?r=2u24i0&utm_medium=ios&shareImageVariant=overlay It was such a great topic to suggest, and when it was first aired I had some amazing feedback from listeners who'd suddenly realised that they were reacting in the way they had been programmed to by their own family. My daughter also told me that the main reason her friends don't tell her parents anything is that they think the parents either don't care or that they'll overract. That's why this podcast is so valuable. It gives us as space to stop and think about the things that come to us unbidden, so that we can upack them and make changes that help us with our own relationships. Long term, if we don't manage to adapt, we run the risk of ruining our connection with our teens because they learn that the best way to manage us parents is to keep quiet, hide, or lie to prevent a repeat.   So how can we stop ourselves from overreacting? We talk through some mindfulness techniques that could make all the difference.  This is also a VITAL skill to teach our own teens.  BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS: When You Lose It by Roxy and Gay LongworthThe Chimp Paradox by Prof Steve Peters RESOURCES: How to Stop Overreacting to Everything by Patrick Allanhttps://psychcentral.com/blog/how-to-stop-overreacting#recaphttps://theparentingreframe.com/the-4-steps-you-need-to-stopoverreacting-and-yelling-at-your-kids-for-good/ https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/blog/surviving-your-childs-adolescence/201007/overreactions-in-adolescenceteenagersuntangled.substack.com Support the show Please hit the follow button if you like the podcast, and share it with anyone who might benefit.
