Ologies with Alie Ward

I love this podcast. Allie is fantastic and her joy infectious. I love that I can be a patreon for $1, which allows me to stay for a long time instead of hopping every few months to spread my support. But I really want to highlight the editing. I imagine the editors sitting in a room, braiding the show from about 9 different spools of tape. 1. the main interview 2. micro interjections of expressions of emotion 3. pop culture references 4. micro explanations of jargon 5. short explanations by Allie 6. long explanations by Allie 7. detailed research reference, with paper title and significant content 8. sound effects! 9. and, most loved, the long, sometimes only weakly related, but perfectly fitting tangent. Best example to my knowledge: Dating short people in the Gorillaology episode. You have not listened to it yet? Do it right away! Mercedes and Jake, is it you doing the editing? I want to let you know that you rock. I hear every squeak, and it all gives me joy!

This podcast won’t just keep you entertained. It will make you laugh, cry, hope, take action and get you obsessed about topics you never thought you would have any interest in. The lovely host gives the loveliest of experts a platform to share their knowledge on various depths of questions, without any judgement. Alie knows just what to ask, but the listeners also get a platform. Besides that, the experts also get to put funding towards causes of their choosing. Every single time that I see a new episode, it’s the first thing I’m listening to. It captures me, and is often a highlight of my day. This is the way science communication should be done!

I am a Raven researcher in Austria with the University of Vienna. This summer every morning while cleaning up Raven poo and running experiments, I listen to your podcast. Just love it, informative and upbeat. I would love a european version of the last disability pod. Because even thou on the internet we all mostly get the american conversation. I feel there are big differences in diffrent locations.
