The Daily Blast: Trump Rages as New Press Sec’s Debut Humiliatingly Mocked Even by MAGA

In a remarkable piece, The Atlantic reports that Donald Trump is privately furious over his inability to force Iran to stop the war. As one adviser notes, he is “used to snapping his fingers” to control Republicans and the media, so he is now “losing his mind that Iran won’t listen” to him. This comes as his new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, turned in a debut performance that’s drawing serious fire from the right. White House officials are sharply criticizing it as “brutal.” One right-wing media personality harshly mocked her as not “serious,” claiming that “she’s auditioning for a job on Fox News.” These stories are connected: They both reveal Trump as an emperor-has-no-clothes figure who can’t fathom why his control over events is deserting him. We talked to Mark Jacob, who skillfully dissects White House follies in his Stop the Presses newsletter. He explains why having someone like Zacharia as White House press secretary is a deadly serious matter for the country, how institutional cowardice persuaded Trump of his omnipotence, how that’s now cracking up under him, and why all this will make him even more dangerous. Alexander Yui Tah-ray, Taiwan’s representative to US: We’re prepared for China to invade

“We don't have to have a fight, and we don't have to land in China, go to Beijing and win the war. All we have to do is prevent them to getting their objective of landing in Taiwan and conquering. It's not going to be easy, but we've been preparing for this for 77 years.” Sumi Somaskanda speaks to Alexander Yui Tah-ray, Taiwan’s representative to the US. The island, which lies roughly 100 miles off the coast of mainland China and is facing growing uncertainty both at home and abroad. As geopolitical tensions rise around the world, there’s increasing focus on the intentions of Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Beijing considers Taiwan part of China and has long-pursued what it calls reunification with the island. Mr. Yui Tah-ray has held the his current post since December 2023, having previously served as Taiwan’s deputy foreign minister. His role is central to maintaining one of Taipei’s most important international relationships: with the United States. Washington does not officially recognise Taiwan as an independent state - and only 12 countries around the world do. But the US remains Taiwan’s most important international backer, providing critical defence and security support. With President Trump back in the White House for a second term, questions remain over how Washington’s longstanding commitment to Taiwan will evolve and what that could mean for the island as tensions with Beijin continue. Radioactive Russian Drones - A Conversation with Vitaly Shevchenko

Vitaly Shevchenko of BBC Monitoring joins Natia Seskuria to explore the implications of a radiation warning found on a downed Russian drone. In April 2026, Ukrainian air defences shot down a modified Russian Geran-2 strike drone near Chernihiv, and investigators found a radiation warning label on the warhead, recording gamma readings far above natural background levels. Within hours the story spread internationally, often described as Russia deploying radioactive weapons or a dirty bomb. Ukrainian investigators say the drone was carrying an R-60 air-to-air missile fitted with a depleted uranium fragmentation element, a modification Russia appears to be using to threaten Ukrainian aircraft intercepting the drones. The SBU has since documented further cases and opened a war crimes investigation. This episode looks at the weapon itself, how claims like this are verified, and what the incident reveals about information warfare and media monitoring in a fast-moving conflict. It also explores: What Ukrainian investigators found in the drone wreckage, and what the modification reveals about Russian production and stockpiles. The problem? By giving El-Sayed airtime and covering him in a somewhat factual way, it’s made it harder for Trump and the GOP to smear him as a crazy radical jihadist.
