Her first birth took place in Melbourne during the height of the 2020 lockdowns and ended in a long induction with a frightening postpartum haemorrhage. In between her two children, Sarah experienced two miscarriages and speaks honestly about that grief and the anxiety that followed her into her next pregnancy. Her second birth, a spontaneous labour at home followed by a short, powerful vaginal birth in hospital, could not have looked more different. Parenthood: Blind Optimism And Naivety | Spring break debrief, pram drama a style crisis and a breastfeeding update

We’re back from spring break, Glimmer Girls and the holiday hangover is real. This week we’re debriefing travelling with kids, the logistics of babies on planes, pram drama, road trips, and the beautiful realisation that the things that once looked so hard eventually just becomes kind of normal. Naivety helps. Beth is deep in a particularly gritty six-month stage with the twins’ very very (very) broken sleep, breast refusal, feeding changes and the emotional whiplash that comes with motherhood and some choices being taken out of our hands. Lil is in full spring-reset mode: wardrobes, toy rotations, baby clothes, the house, the whole damn lot. Plus the eternal question: how the hell do I dress myself? Tips please. We’re reminded, two things co-exist. You can be deeply grateful and completely depleted. You can adore your children and not enjoy a particular stage. You can know you’re doing a good job and feel like you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing. RECIPE | RECCOMENDATION | REBUILD Beth: Slow and steady, getting back to Pilates, paying attention to her core and pelvic floor, and remembering that consistency counts. Lil: Well and truly off the bandwagon - but the house has had a little spring rebuild. Does that count? Episode 140: Lost boys & The Lost Boys

What does it mean to be a man? The Lost Boys gives us a window into one version of that answer and it isn't pretty. In this episode we use the film to explore masculinity and what the research tells us about how boys develop their sense of who they are, what it means to be strong, and what they risk losing when the only version of masculinity on offer is rigid, stoic and built on control. We talk about why masculinity itself isn't the problem but rigidity is, how boys often police each other's masculinity in ways that punish vulnerability and reward dominance, and why fixing individual attitudes while leaving peer culture and school systems unchanged rarely works. We look at what the Man Box research tells us about the very real costs of rigid masculinity for boys themselves, including depression, isolation and suicide, and what it actually looks like to raise boys who are strong in all the right ways.
