    Jason Dies

    Jason Dies

In June of 1991, 20-year-old Jason Dies returned from Operation Desert Storm when the USS Horne docked in San Diego, California.  He was now on leave and had a month to report to a new duty station in Pensacola, Florida.  Jason never showed up and was classified as an unauthorized absentee and later a deserter.  Before Jason disappeared, he mailed some packages to his family back in Louisiana.  He phoned them and asked them not to open the packages.  The mystery of what was in the packages and what happened to Jason loomed over his family for years.  What had he sent them?  Military secrets?  Was there some kind of conspiracy?  When Jason’s younger cousin grew up, she embarked on a journey to find him.  She opened the packages and started pressing for answers.

Stick with it

I just adore this podcast! Marissa does a fantastic job delivering poignant and important stories of those whose voices haven’t been heard in far too long.

If you’re starting with episode 1, a word of advise - just stick with it. You’ll be glad that you did. Like with anything, the first few times are learning experience and the episodes are SO much better as time goes on. While you certainly do not have to listen in chronological order, don’t give up if you decide to start with the earlies!

The lullaby voice telling extremely well-researched stories of those who have disappeared. I always look forward to new episodes and appreciate the candid demeanor of our host. My favorite podcast BAR NONE.

Best true crime podcast

By far the best true crime podcasts. I’ve listened to other true crime podcasts and they appear to be purely for entertainment often times adding UNNECESSARY drama. Vanished is the best out there.
