How to Master the Art of Persuasion & Scale Your Vision | Ed Mylett

If I could only keep one skill out of everything I've built, this is the one. I get asked all the time what skill matters most for an entrepreneur, and my answer never changes: the ability to persuade. Without it, most of what I have doesn't exist. And here's the hard truth I open this episode with. Most people are nowhere near as persuasive as they believe they are, and that belief is the very thing keeping them stuck. So I brought together three of the most influential people I've ever sat across from. John Maxwell has trained leaders in every country on earth and sold more than 30 million books. Zoe Chance teaches one of the most popular courses at the Yale School of Management. Mauricio Umansky built The Agency into one of the biggest real estate brands on the planet, starting at the worst possible moment to start anything.I push each of them on the things most people never talk about. I get honest with John about a part of leadership where I've always felt limited. I admit to Zoe the surprisingly small thing I'm still afraid to ask for. And I press Mo on what really happened before The Agency existed, a story I was surprised he was willing to tell. I also lay out my own playbook: why energy moves people more than words, why you have to sell a dream big enough for everyone around you to fit inside, and a lesson my dad taught me as a kid that every closer needs to hear. Here's what you'll gain from this episode: The Question That Changes Everything: The one question Zoe teaches that opens doors you didn't know existed, and what happened when I asked it of myself. Your Sweet Spot: How John realized he was in the wrong role for years, and how to find where you win. The Emotional Moment: How Mo reads a room before a deal, and the one mistake that destroys the connection. Rejection as Training: Why you should be hearing no a lot more often, and how to make it hurt less. Scaling Your Influence: How to transfer the skill of persuasion to your team so it grows beyond you. Everything you want is on the other side of someone saying yes: your business, your family, your team, even the person in the mirror. Stop checking the box like you've already mastered this and go get better at it. 👉 SUBSCRIBE TO ED'S YOUTUBE CHANNEL NOW 👈 → → → CONNECT WITH ED MYLETT ON SOCIAL MEDIA: ← ← ← ➡️ INSTAGRAM ➡️ FACEBOOK ➡️ LINKEDIN ➡️ X ➡️ WEBSITE Learn more about your ad choices. John Maxwell's #14 Law of Leadership: The Law of Buy-In

📥 CLICK HERE to Download the free Leadership Workbook and submit your question for our Q&A with John and me.   People don't buy into your vision until they buy into you first. Every leader eventually asks the same question: why isn't my team buying into this? I've asked it myself. And the answer almost never has anything to do with the vision. It has everything to do with whether people have already bought into you as the person carrying it. I bring up something John said to me earlier this year that has stuck with me, about how rare it actually is for anyone in a position of influence to stand up and own a mistake out loud. That conversation is one we don't have enough, and John and I go deep on why owning your failures builds more trust than pretending you don't have any. John breaks down the 8-step process to get your team to buy-in, step by step, from the first crack people notice in a problem all the way to the moment buy-in becomes automatic and you don't have to ask for it anymore. He walks it back to his own story: stepping into a role after a legendary 27-year predecessor and spending nearly two years proving himself before anyone came looking for his counsel instead of comparing him to the guy before him. Here's what you'll gain from this episode: Sell Yourself First: Why the vision is always the second sale, never the first. The 8-Step Buy-In Process: John's exact sequence for turning a skeptical team into one that believes your belief before you've finished the sentence. The Line I Can't Forget: What John said to me that reframed why owning your mistakes builds more trust than covering them. Two Years to Earn the Room: John's own story of following a beloved leader and what it actually took. This Week's Rep: One decision that builds credibility before you ask anyone to follow you anywhere. Buy-in isn't built in the big speech. It's built in the Tuesday nobody's watching, the mistake you own out loud, and the promise you keep when it would've been easier not to. Do that long enough and you stop needing to ask people to follow you. This wraps Season 2 of my series with John Maxwell on his 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. Alex Hormozi on Fatherhood, Leadership & The Cost of Success

Alex Hormozi is back on the show, and I’m telling you right now, this may be my favorite conversation we’ve ever had together. I believe Alex is one of the best business minds in the world today, but what makes him different is his ability to take incredibly complex ideas and make them immediately actionable. We get into everything from productivity and AI to leadership, leverage, risk, and why some entrepreneurs explode through barriers while others stay trapped at the same level for years. One of the biggest ideas we unpack is something I believe every entrepreneur needs to hear: the risk that got you where you are may not be enough to get you where you want to go. Alex explains why so many entrepreneurs get trapped between $1 million and $3 million in revenue. You’ve finally made enough money to become comfortable, and now the very thing that helped you survive starts working against you. You become protective. You stop making the bets that got you there. But if you want another level, your capacity for risk has to expand alongside your capacity for opportunity. We also go deep on effort, focus, and leverage. Alex challenges the obsession with complicated morning routines and explains why your best cognitive hours should be protected for your most important work. He breaks down his philosophy that "work is the goal," why winning against other people eventually becomes too low of a standard, and why some of the most successful people measure themselves against what they were truly capable of giving. And his take on AI absolutely stopped me. Too many entrepreneurs are using AI to do the wrong things faster instead of asking whether those things should be done at all. Sometimes the greatest leverage isn’t doing something more efficiently. It’s eliminating it completely. But underneath all the business strategy is something even bigger. Alex talks about becoming a father, thinking differently about legacy, redefining what a great day actually looks like, and asking a deceptively simple question before taking a risk: What will this actually change about my day? We talk about why fear lives in the vague, why failure builds the pattern recognition that eventually makes success repeatable, and why great entrepreneurs eventually stop "building" businesses and start assembling them. If you’re an entrepreneur, leader, or someone who knows there’s another level in you, this episode will challenge the way you think about work, risk, success, and what you’re actually building your life for. Key Takeaways: • Why your risk tolerance has to increase as your success increases• The $1M to $3M "swamp" that keeps entrepreneurs stuck• Why "work is the goal" can completely change how you measure success• How to protect your highest cognitive hours and eliminate unnecessary routines• Why focus is subtraction and doing less can create more leverage• The biggest mistake entrepreneurs are making with AI right now• How failure creates pattern recognition and makes future success faster• Why great entrepreneurs eventually stop building businesses and start assembling them• How Alex evaluates risk by asking what it will actually change about his daily life This one is packed with ideas I’ll personally be thinking about for a long time. If you know an entrepreneur who feels stuck at the same level, send them this episode. It might show them exactly what’s been holding them back. MAX OUT. John Maxwell's #13 Law of Leadership: The Law of the Picture

📥 CLICK HERE to Download the free Leadership Workbook and submit your question for our Q&A with John and me.   Forget what you told them this week. What did they watch you do? Law thirteen is the Law of the Picture, and out of everything John and I have covered so far in this series, this might be the one that convicted me the most. Because it doesn't ask what you're saying in the Monday meeting or what you posted online. It asks a much harder question: what is your team actually watching you do when you think no one's paying attention. John's spent over forty years studying this and has put these principles in front of leaders in nearly every country on earth, and this is the law he says confronts people the most. Simply put, people do what people see. Not what they're told. Not what they're taught in a seminar. What they see, day after day, from the person leading them. I've made this mistake plenty of times, both as a father and as a leader in my business. I used to think I could fix everything I wasn't doing with a great speech on a Monday. I was wrong. Once I understood my team wasn't catching my words, they were catching my life, everything about how I lead changed. Here's what you'll take from this episode: The Gandhi story that redefines what it means to lead by example, and why it applies to every parent and every leader listening Why "most things are caught, not taught," and what that actually means for the standard you're setting without realizing it The real reason culture can't be announced from a stage, and what it takes to embody it instead How this law connects back to law nine, the Law of Magnetism, and why the leaders you attract eventually become the leaders you reproduce The identity shift that separates someone who acts like a leader from someone who actually is one, even when the cameras are off This law shaped how I show up with my own kids just as much as it shaped how I lead in business, and I don't think there's a law in this series that will confront you quite like this one does.   📅 New law dropping every Thursday so make sure you're subscribed so you never miss one. The Man Who DID NOT Want to be Elected Feat. Dr. Ben Carson

What does America look like from inside the Oval Office, and what do you learn about leadership when you've actually run for President of the United States? I don't normally talk politics on this show, but when I got the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Ben Carson, I couldn't pass it up. This isn't a political conversation. It's a rare opportunity to hear from someone who's run for President and had a front-row seat inside the most powerful office in the world. Dr. Ben Carson has occupied seats very few human beings ever will. He went from growing up in poverty in Detroit to becoming one of the most accomplished neurosurgeons in the world, then stepped into an entirely different arena and ran for President of the United States. What surprised me in this conversation is that he told me he never really wanted to be President. He entered the race because he was deeply concerned about where he believed the country was heading and felt called to do whatever he could to make a difference. Along the way, he competed against Donald Trump, developed a friendship with him, and ultimately went on to serve as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Today, Dr. Carson gives us a rare look at what he saw from inside presidential politics and the highest levels of our government. I wanted to know what happens when the cameras turn off. What is it actually like inside an administration? What surprised him about being that close to the Oval Office? Dr. Carson talks about the competing personalities and opinions inside government, the intense energy required at that level of leadership, and why disagreement behind closed doors can actually be healthy. We also have a fascinating conversation about President Trump, including what Dr. Carson told him while they were still competing for the Republican nomination, why he believed Trump was going to become President, and what he observed working alongside him once he was in office. Whatever your politics are, this is a perspective very few people can give you firsthand. But what struck me most is the temperament Dr. Carson brought into an arena that rewards conflict. We talk about how divided the country has become and why he believes we've lost the ability to disagree with someone without treating them like an enemy. He shares why leadership requires listening to different viewpoints, why a "my way or the highway" mentality doesn't work in a country as diverse as ours, and why our ability to see each other as neighbors again may matter more than any political label. We also get into home ownership, the expectations of the next generation, AI, parenting in a rapidly changing technological world, and what he believes families can do instead of waiting for Washington to solve their problems. And then you hear the story behind the man. This calm, measured former presidential candidate was once an angry teenager who tried to stab another young man. The knife struck a metal belt buckle and broke. Dr. Carson went home, locked himself in a room, turned to God, and experienced a transformation that changed his entire future. As he told me, God took the knife out of the hand of an angry teenager and replaced it with a scalpel that would save lives. When you hear about his mother, his childhood, his faith, his journey into medicine, his run for President, and eventually his time inside a presidential administration, you begin to understand why his perspective on leadership is so different. Key Takeaways: Why Dr. Carson says he entered the presidential race even though he didn't really want to become President What happened between Dr. Carson and Donald Trump while they were competing for the Republican nomination What surprised him after getting an inside view of a presidential administration What he learned about leadership, disagreement, and decision making at the highest levels of government Why he believes Americans must relearn how to disagree without treating each other as enemies His concerns about AI, parenting, home ownership, and the future facing the next generation How faith transformed him from an angry teenager who nearly took a life into a surgeon who spent his career saving them There are very few people who can tell you what it's like to operate on the human brain, run for President, serve in a presidential cabinet, and sit inside the rooms where decisions affecting millions of people are made. Dr. Carson can. Regardless of your politics, this conversation is about something bigger: leadership, faith, character, family, and what each of us can do to build a better future. This is one I genuinely didn't want to end. God bless you. Max Out your life. Visit Upwork.com today to post your job for free, and connect with top talent ready to grow your business. How to Stop Wasting Years of Your Life With One Simple Word

You don't need more talent. You need one more rep than you think you have. I get asked all the time what actually separates the people who win from everyone else, and this week I gave you my real answer: it's not talent, it's not connections, it's one more. One more call, one more set, one more minute. So instead of just teaching it, I pulled from the archives to show it in action, my conversations with David Meltzer and Jay Shetty, alongside some of my favorite solo teaching on this over the years. Here's what you'll gain from this episode: The one word mantra: The single word I've repeated to myself for three decades, and why I believe it's the real separator between winners and everyone else. The 24 hour myth: Why I stopped believing a day is 24 hours a long time ago, and the shift that gets me multiple days out of every single one. David Meltzer on accessibility: What makes some of the most successful people I know also some of the most reachable, and what that has to do with how you value your own time. Jay Shetty on evaluating progress: How often Jay actually checks in on himself, and why it's nowhere close to how often most people do. The story I still think about with Kobe Bryant: What I saw the last time I was around him, and why it changed how I look at every day since. Whatever rock is sitting between you and your dream right now, it's breaking down more than you realize. You just haven't seen the evidence yet. Stick around long enough and the candy comes out.   👉 SUBSCRIBE TO ED'S YOUTUBE CHANNEL NOW 👈 → → → CONNECT WITH ED MYLETT ON SOCIAL MEDIA: ← ← ←➡️ INSTAGRAM➡️ FACEBOOK➡️ LINKEDIN➡️ X➡️ WEBSITE Learn more about your ad choices. John Maxwell's #12 Law of Leadership: The Law of Empowerment

📥 CLICK HERE to Download the free Leadership Workbook and submit your question for our Q&A with John and me.   You either go up with the people you lead, or you go down with them. There is no version where you stay still. Welcome back to our series on John Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. Law #12 is the Law of Empowerment, and John opens it with a line that stopped me: only secure leaders give power to others. This one hits close to home for me. If you know me at all, you know I like control. Letting go of it has been one of the hardest lessons of my leadership life. In this episode, John shows you what happens when a leader pushes people down instead of lifting them up: you don't stay above them, you go down right along with them. Then he gets specific about why so many leaders never empower anyone in the first place. He breaks down five reasons, from insecurity to ego to the kind of bad experience that makes you swear you'll never pour into anyone again, and he doesn't let anyone off the hook, including himself. I connect this straight to what I teach in the power of one more. I talk about how leaders convince themselves they're more valuable when everything depends on them, when the truth is the opposite: if everything depends on you, you don't have a business, you have a bottleneck with your name on it. I challenge you to stop asking how you can get something done fastest and start asking who can grow by doing it instead. That one shift in the question changes everything about how you lead. Here's what you'll gain from this episode: The Demonstration: John's live, physical illustration of exactly what happens to a leader who pushes their people down instead of lifting them up. The Five Reasons You Don't Empower: The breakdown of what's really stopping you from letting go, and at least one of them is going to sting. The Power of One More: How a single moment of belief from a leader can turn someone into who they were always capable of becoming. The Bottleneck Trap: Why holding onto every decision doesn't make you more valuable, it makes you the reason your organization can't grow. Kingmaker, Not King: What John says the real goal of leadership actually is, and why the leaders who understand it end up more secure, not less. I think about every person who ever believed I could be more than I thought I could be, and I know I would not be sitting here right now without them. That is the debt I am trying to pay forward every single day. Somebody in your life is waiting for you to see something in them before they see it in themselves. Stop protecting your position long enough to go find that person this week.
