Their friendship is instant, bonded by a shared passion for, among other things, tripping on mushrooms. Naturally, Travis joins Roman on a quest into the swampy heart of the Everglades. Their mission: to find the Skunk Ape. Their methods? Following a strict set of rules: 1) Follow the stank, 2) Listen for strange knocking noises, and 3) Speak its language. Armed with a special Skunk Ape call and a dose of shrooms, they venture into the wilderness, creating a symphony of “pure chaos.” But as the trip intensifies, things take a terrifying turn. Travis gets separated from Roman and comes face-to-face with a creature in the dark. In a moment of panic, he stabs it with a cheap gas station knife, believing he’s conquered the mythical beast. The reality is far stranger: it’s not a Skunk Ape, but a massive Burmese python. This is a story where the hunt for a legend becomes a psychedelic battle with an invasive species, culminating in a visit to a restaurant that accepts pythons as currency for pizza. It’s a wild, hallucinatory journey into the depths of the Florida swamp, where the only thing more elusive than the Skunk Ape is sobriety.
