This Podcast Should Come With a Stupidity Warning (Yet I can’t help myself from listening).
I listen to this podcast and their other show, despite Tom’s best efforts to make me regret it. Jenny is intelligent, interesting, and knowledgeable about horror films and pop culture. She’s why I keep coming back. And then there’s Tom. I’ve rarely encountered someone so confidently uninformed. He fancies himself an expert on everything, yet comes across as an arrogant, unresearched dolt. Tom has never met a subject he couldn’t confidently misunderstand.
His misogyny is nauseating. The endless commentary about women’s breasts, breast augmentation, and what women should do with their bodies is embarrassing. For someone with so much to say about women, he seems remarkably uninterested in listening to one. He constantly interrupts Jenny, talks over her, and derails conversations with irrelevant monologues. He doesn’t listen to understand. He waits for another opportunity to hear himself talk. And must everything circle back to his military service or obsession with guns? We get it, Tom. You were a soldier. That doesn’t make you an authority on medicine or women’s bodies. His habit of dispensing medical advice without credible sources is especially irresponsible.
Throw in the occasional racially tone-deaf remark and political commentary that gives me serious closet-MAGA vibes, and the cringe becomes unbearable. Jenny brings intelligence, curiosity, and substance. Tom brings arrogance, misogyny, and the breathtaking confidence of a man unaware of his own ignorance. And yet, inexplicably, I’ll tune in again next week. Apparently, the stupidity warning should apply to me, too.
