Ep. 192 - Scurvy Is Back... What's To Blame?

Scurvy is back... Not on a pirate ship in the 17th century, but in 2026, how and why?? In this episode of the Winning at Weight Loss Podcast, Mitch sits down with, William Grand, CEO of Nutrifusion, a company that concentrates real fruit and vegetable nutrition into an ingredient that ends up in foods you already buy (he's under NDA, so he can't say which). He's been in the food industry since 2008, and he's blunt about what's happening: 65 to 75 percent of the average North American diet is ultra-processed, and GLP-1 drugs are quietly making the problem worse. People on GLP-1s eat less, but they eat the same junk, and nutrient deficiencies are showing up. Including a disease we thought we'd left in the 1700s... yes, scurvy, in some cases. Even if you aren't on a GLP-1, you'll learn how to become an informed shopper with this episode. We cover how to shop when you have 20 minutes and no nutrition degree, why the front of the box lies and the back tells the truth, why frozen might beat fresh (especially in a Winnipeg winter), and what anyone on Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro needs to fix right now to keep their muscle, their gut moving, and their vitamin C above pirate deficient levels. Connect with William: wg@nutrifusion.com or nutrifusion.com (B2B site, but there's a store icon top right). Ready to lose fat without starving or living on shakes? Robbie Williams is the most notable person to say he got scurvy while on a GLP treatment.

Ep. 191 - Why Weight Loss Feels Impossible For Some People

Why does weight loss feel almost effortless for some people, while others have to fight tooth and nail to lose the same 10 pounds? The answer isn’t simply willpower. And no, your metabolism probably isn’t “broken.” In this video, I break down why a calorie deficit is required for fat loss, but maintaining that deficit can be MUCH harder for some people than others. We’ll cover hunger and appetite, metabolic adaptation, GLP-1 medications, genetics, sleep, exercise and why your original calorie deficit can slowly disappear as you lose weight. Most importantly, I’ll show you how to make fat loss easier instead of more extreme. Because if your diet requires heroic amounts of willpower every day, you probably don’t need more discipline. You need a better diet. I’ll also explain the approach I’m currently using to lose a pound per week while dropping 2 inches from my waist in 8 weeks... and still eating an ice cream bar every night and meals out on weekends.
