The Iron Dice

A brief scroll through previous comments shows where the anglophile world is, in terms of yearning for “history without politics” as if that is possible. This is one of the best podcasts I have had the joy of listening to, specifically focused on learning about the revolutions in Germany following capitulation in the first world war. If you are a fan of three arrows work, this is a masterpiece to enjoy. This historical analysis follows the political turmoil erupting from an unstable German government, the influence of revolutionary movements from left wing provocateurs, and the right wing reaction to these events. It would be completely blind and tone deaf to ignore the parallels with contemporary society and not mention them. History is not a prediction for the future but has important lessons to teach, and often in the realm of politics.

Dan puts the effort into making a quality documentary. I am always excited when I see a new Iron Dice episode. Thank Dan!

What Dan Arrows does here is truly unique and captivating. He describes the experiences and pain of average Germans in the interwar era while also not losing grasp of the larger picture. This podcast makes you empathize with the past and with the people of the time who who were just fighting to live their lives. It’s tragic to view these events with knowledge of what came after. As opposed to viewing the rise of Nazism as inevitable, Arrows emphasizes the people who fought against it and explains in detail what influences the Nazi’s unfortunate success.

We came for the German history lessons. Not your low-IQ, Blue Anon conspiracy theory takes on American politics. Your current events perspective seems to be copy-paste direct from Reddit Democrats for Socialism. There’s nothing novel or original. If we wanted that we would turn the tv to MSNBC. For someone who has such a deep understanding of 1920s politics, it’s sad to see them rabidly repeating every bit of regime propaganda the DNC prints.
