Reacting to Pastor Eddie Lapina's Purity Culture Sermon at FBC Hammond's Youth Conference

EVERYONE who signs up to my giveaway will receive a FREE Rose suction toy with their @bellesaco order!  https://www.bboutique.co/vibe/preacherboys-podcast #bbpartner ✖️✖️✖️ In this episode of the Preacher Boys Podcast, host Eric Skwarczynski reacts to a purity culture sermon preached by Eddie Lapina, assistant pastor at First Baptist Church of Hammond, at a youth conference. Using two apples as an object lesson, Lapina compares sexual activity to bruising and "splitting open" fruit that forever loses it's value. Eric unpacks the sermon's violent language around sex, the objectification baked into purity culture teaching, and how this kind of messaging disproportionately targets young women. He also reacts to the moment Lapina brings his own granddaughter on stage as a live illustration for the sermon, and shares insight from sex educator Erica Smith on how purity culture teaching can compound harm for survivors of sexual abuse. ✖️✖️✖️ CONNECT WITH THE SHOW: preacherboyspodcast.com https://www.youtube.com/@PreacherBoys https://www.facebook.com/preacherboysdoc/ https://twitter.com/preacherboysdoc https://www.instagram.com/preacherboyspod https://www.tiktok.com/@preacherboyspod To connect with a community that shares the Preacher Boys Podcast's mission to expose abuse in the IFB, join the OFFICIAL Preacher Boys Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1403898676438188/ ✖️✖️✖️ The content presented in this video is for informational and educational purposes only. BIG ANNOUNCEMENT — I’m so glad I don’t have to keep this a secret any more!

Support the Show: Patreon.com/PreacherBoys ✖️✖️✖️ I hate surprises. I hate having to keep secrets. I cannot handle it one bit. Ask my wife. I am the guy who always buys gifts weeks early and then wants to give them the minute I get home. Having to keep a secret for months is EXCRUCIATING. In April 2022, I filmed for a documentary series called Let Us Prey: A Ministry of Scandals — and then had to keep it under wraps for a year and a half, until the show premiered in November 2023. By the time the trailer premiered I was DYING. That’s why I’m so relieved that I can officially, finally announce that in December 2025, I flew across the country to film for another hush hush television series — and now, almost 8 months later, I can tell you about it! Variety reports, “Season 2 of Toxic, the Elizabeth Chambers-hosted true crime series that explores poisonous romantic relationships and the trauma they cause, will premiere on Investigation Discovery on Sept. 15. According to ID’s announcement, the series will continue doing what it does best, following “Chambers as she speaks with survivors of toxic relationships, domestic abuse, and intimate partner violence and explores cases from all over the country.” I think my audience will be interested to know that one episode in particular is going to feature a case about coercion and abuse within an Independent Fundamental Baptist church — and it’s going to feature my friend and survivor, Sarah Jackson! The best part of the whole experience was that after years of talking virtually, I got to fly out and meet her in person. The episodes premiere on ID at 10 pm ET/PT on Tuesdays, and roll out weekly, also streaming on HBO Max — this episode looks like it’ll land somewhere in the latter half of the releases. I'm so excited to see this episode air, and for Sarah's story to reach more people who might need to hear it. I can’t wait to see how this turned out, and I’m honored I got to participate. Elizabeth was incredible — even if she was concerned about my Red Bull intake on set. And the rest of the crew were clearly talented and also so kind and accommodating as well. Really enjoyed getting to have a lot of great conversations on and off-camera with them. A cool bonus piece of context is that Toxic is going to appear on Investigation Discovery — which is where Let Us Prey premiered a few years ago, so it’s cool to be back on the same network. But another cool piece of context is that this particular project is produced by Breaklight Pictures — they have an amazing track record, putting out shows like Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed. Great company to be in. Obviously can’t share much more now, just wanted to drop something on the channel and podcast feed to let you know to keep an eye out for Season 2 of Toxic! Throw a reminder on your calendar, set that TiVo, get that blank VHS ready… or just tune in to HBO Max… that probably makes the most sense. https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/toxic-season-2-trailer-elizabeth-chambers-id-series-premiere-date-1236834163/ ✖️✖️✖️ CONNECT WITH THE SHOW: preacherboyspodcast.com https://www.youtube.com/@PreacherBoys https://www.facebook.com/preacherboysdoc/ https://twitter.com/preacherboysdoc https://www.instagram.com/preacherboyspod https://www.tiktok.com/@preacherboyspod To connect with a community that shares the Preacher Boys Podcast's mission to expose abuse in the IFB, join the OFFICIAL Preacher Boys Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1403898676438188/ ✖️✖️✖️ The content presented in this video is for informational and educational purposes only. IFB Evangelist Gets Life in Prison for Child Rape; His Wife Awaits Sentencing

Support the Show: Patreon.com/PreacherBoys ✖️✖️✖️ Traveling evangelist Benjamin Garlick and his wife Shaantal Garlick have been convicted of child sex crimes in Rutherford County, Tennessee — nearly three years after I first covered their September 2023 arrest. In this episode, I revisit my original reporting and break down everything that's happened since: the March 2024 reindictment that added new charges, the delayed trial, the August 2026 guilty verdict, and Judge Barry Tidwell's sentence of life in prison without parole for Benjamin Garlick. Shaantal Garlick was convicted of facilitation and child neglect charges and is now in custody as well. Both will be sentenced on their remaining charges November 10, 2026. This case involves an IFB (Independent Fundamentalist Baptist) traveling minister who preached across Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, and Arkansas, and was supported by ministries including First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana. Law enforcement identified multiple victims during the investigation and specifically appealed to Hispanic religious communities, where Garlick focused much of his ministry, for anyone with information to come forward. Eric and Travis break down real sermon clips from pastors preaching controversial and occasionally predatory theology on the topic, including telling people to pay their tithe before their bills, teaching homeless individuals to tithe 10% of their income, and to give so God keeps protecting their families... which sounds a bit like the Mafia, don't you think? ✖️✖️✖️ 00:00 People did not like when I did this... 01:52 SPONSORED SEGMENT 04:06 Intro music by @louridley 04:40 Teaching the homeless to tithe?! 08:10 "Pay pastor first, bills second" 10:29 When pastors call out congregants 14:52 CT Townsend's weird sermon about giving 17:11 Yelling in church 18:08 More from CT Townsend's weird sermon about giving 19:14 Making change in the offering plate 19:41 God or the Mafia? 23:31 Pay bills first or give to church first? Guilted Into Giving: When Pastors Weaponize The Bible to Get More Money From Their Congregation

EVERYONE who signs up to my giveaway will receive a FREE Rose suction toy with their @bellesaco order!  https://www.bboutique.co/vibe/preacherboys-podcast #bbpartner ✖️✖️✖️ Support the Show: Patreon.com/PreacherBoys ✖️✖️✖️ Today on the Preacher Boys Podcast, we're diving into one of the most under-discussed forms of church abuse: financial exploitation. From guilt-tripping congregants into tithing during the COVID-19 pandemic to shaming members with bizarre, homophobic rhetoric, this episode breaks down real sermon clips from prominent pastors and ministries who use weaponized biblical language to control their congregations' finances. In this episode, we react to and unpack clips from: — Josh McPherson's viral "tithe shaming" sermon — Paul Chappell of Lancaster Baptist Church on tithing during COVID-19 — Jabin Chavez, a Las Vegas pastor with a surprisingly refreshing take on financial hardship — Kenneth Copeland's fear-based prosperity gospel messaging during the pandemic — Pastor Larry Smith and his "first fruits" tithing philosophy — Bruce Goddard (featured in HBO Max's "Let Us Prey" documentary) and his complaints about members leaving during COVID and not tithing when they sold their homes We explore how tithing, sacrificial giving, and "faithfulness" are often twisted into tools of manipulation — pressuring people already struggling to pay bills, feed their families, or survive a global pandemic into handing over money to the church.
