    192. Why OCD Makes You Doubt What You Already Know

Every OCD spiral begins the same way... with one moment of self-doubt.   In this episode of The OCD Whisperer Podcast, Kristina Orlova speaks with Catherine Goldhouse, ICBT therapist and OCD specialist. Together, they break down exactly how Inference-Based CBT (ICBT) is applied to some of the most common OCD themes—including Harm OCD, Relationship OCD, Contamination OCD, Health OCD, and Pedophilia OCD. Catherine explains how OCD pulls people away from what they already know to be true, replacing reality with imagination, doubt, and endless "what if" stories.   In this episode, you'll learn: • How ICBT approaches Harm OCD and violent intrusive thoughts • Why dreams, body sensations, urges, and images are not evidence of your true intentions • How to apply ICBT to Relationship OCD without constantly scanning your feelings • Why contamination fears and health anxiety rely on possibility instead of reality • How to recognize when OCD is creating stories that feel convincing—but aren't true   This conversation also dives into: • Why people with OCD already know the answer before they start second-guessing themselves • The hidden role of imagination in every OCD theme • The difference between real evidence and imagined possibilities • Why "possibility" alone is never enough in everyday life—but OCD convinces you otherwise • Practical ways to return to reality instead of getting pulled deeper into obsessional doubt   If you've ever found yourself thinking... "But what if this time OCD is right?" ...this episode will help you understand why that question feels so convincing—and how to stop letting it control your life.   Whether you're navigating OCD yourself or supporting someone you love, this episode offers practical strategies, hope, and a completely different way of understanding intrusive thoughts and obsessional doubt.   📲 About Catherine Goldhouse (guest): • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/icbttherapist/ • Website: https://www.catherinegoldhouse.com/ • LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/catherinegoldhouse/   ✂️ TIMESTAMPS: [00:00] – How Does ICBT Approach Harm OCD and the Fear of Losing Control? 188. Guided Mindfulness Meditation for Anxiety and Overthinking

A guided meditation to help with overthinking, anxiety, and a mind that just won’t slow down. Some days your head feels on overdrive. You sit down to relax and the thoughts keep racing anyway. This meditation doesn’t ask you to stop the thoughts. You’ll rest your attention on your breath, lose it, get pulled into a thought, and come back. That’s it. That’s the skill of mindfulness, and it gets stronger every time you practice. No experience is needed to start. Feel free to sit on the floor, sit in a chair, or even lie down. Headphones can help, but they aren’t required. You can’t do this exercise wrong. Having your mind wander off and coming back isn’t the practice failing, it’s actually the practice working. I’m Kristina Orlova, a licensed marriage and family therapist. I treated anxiety and OCD, and I live with OCD myself, so I understand what a loud brain feels like. This meditation is general and may work for anyone, whether you deal with anxiety or just want to reset your day. One honest note. This is for general wellbeing, not a substitute for therapy. If breath focus ever makes you more anxious, that's a real thing that happens to some people. Open your eyes, listen to the sounds around you instead, or take a break.
