    Genesis 12: Did Abram Put His Wife in Danger? | Ep. 157

    What happens when the father of faith acts out of fear instead of trust? In Genesis 12, Abram and Sarai enter Egypt during a famine, and Abram’s plan to protect himself puts his marriage—and God’s promise—in a complicated position. Wailer and Adena unpack the cultural context behind Abram calling Sarai his sister, why the strategy may have seemed clever at the time, and how God intervenes to preserve their union. But the story also raises a much harder question: if God protected Sarai, why doesn’t He always intervene when people face sexual violence and abuse? Wailer and Adena wrestle with the reality of evil, God’s goodness, and the difference between saying God causes suffering and believing He can redeem what evil has done. The conversation ultimately points toward God’s investment in marriage, children, and generations.     Genesis 9: The Story We Skip After the Flood | Ep. 156

    What really happened between Ham and Noah in Genesis 9—and why did it result in a curse that would impact generations? Wailer and Adena wrestle with one of Scripture’s more disturbing passages, exploring the language of “uncovering nakedness,” related passages in Leviticus, and interpretations preserved within Jewish tradition. Rather than simply seeing his father naked, the text may point toward Ham committing a serious violation against Noah. While Scripture doesn’t explicitly tell us exactly what happened, the conversation explores several possibilities and why the consequences were so severe.     Genesis 6: When Sex Becomes a Cosmic Problem | Ep. 155

    Genesis 6 gets weird fast. The sons of God. The daughters of men. The Nephilim. A world so corrupted that God grieves what humanity has become. But what does any of this have to do with sex, and why should it matter to us now? In this episode of The Naked Gospel, Wailer and Adena step into one of Scripture’s strangest passages and explore the possibility that Genesis 6 gives us a glimpse into a much larger spiritual conflict. Drawing heavily from Michael Heiser’s The Unseen Realm, they discuss the divine council, rebellious spiritual beings, ancient mythology, and the cosmic significance of human sexuality. But the conversation doesn’t stay in the ancient world. Wailer and Adena wrestle with what Genesis 6 reveals about our bodies today: sex without responsibility, pornography, sexual brokenness, trauma, healing, marriage, intimacy, and the difficult practice of becoming more like Christ. Because if sexuality can participate in the corruption of God’s creation, perhaps redeemed sexuality can also participate in its restoration.     Genesis 4–5: Temptation, Porn, and Lasting Freedom | Ep. 154

    What does it actually mean to “rule over” sin when temptation feels overwhelming? Continuing their journey through Genesis, Wailer and Adena move into Genesis 4 and 5 to examine Cain, temptation, desire, and the devastating consequences of allowing sin to take control. God’s warning to Cain, “sin is crouching at the door... but you must rule over it”, raises an important question for anyone who has felt trapped by pornography or unwanted sexual behavior: Is lasting freedom really possible? Wailer and Adena argue that Scripture gives us more than a command to simply try harder. It gives us a path toward transformation. They discuss the importance of Scripture memorization, replacing old patterns with the pursuit of righteousness, and practicing spiritual disciplines even when they initially feel boring or difficult. Freedom isn't found by white-knuckling your way through temptation.
