41. Overcoming Secret Sins: Part 1
This week’s episode is a little bit more sensitive in nature. We’re going to talk about something that I don’t think is talked much about, but is something that many teen girls struggle with today…and even if you honestly don’t feel like you fit into this category, chances are, you will have a friend that you can help shine the light of Jesus on while pointing her in the right direction.
This week and next week, we’re going to be talking about secret sins…how to make sure we don’t find ourselves in a place where we are hiding secret sins…and if there are any secret sins that we have in our lives, how we can overcome them, so we don’t go back there again.
I read a statistic recently that said 70% of teens hide their online activity from their parents. Something that I often tell teens is…even if you honestly aren’t doing something wrong, if you feel you need to hide something from your parents, it’s in that moment of hiding that you are stepping into sin.
Proverbs 28:13 tells us that if we hide our sins, we will not succeed…they will be found out. However, if we confess them and reject them, we may get in trouble, but we will have mercy.
If you find that you’re in a place where you know that you are hiding secret sins and you feel so guilty or ashamed about it. There is hope for you. There is healing for you. There is freedom for you. Even if you’re pretty sure that those secret sins have turned into secret addictions.

40. Transforming Your Thought-Life: Interview with Sarah Geringer
On this week's podcast, Jamie interviews author Sarah Geringer about her new book for teen girls called, Transforming Your Thought Life for Teens: Renew Your Mind with God.
Our thoughts are so much more powerful than we realize. In a world that is telling us so many lies from every direction, it's so important for us to really know what it is that God says about us and to renew our minds to His truth so that we can win any battle that comes against us.
Here are just a couple of quotes from Sarah's book on transforming your thought life. To learn more about it, check out this week's podcast.
"Satan knows that negative thoughts are the easiest way to tear a person down. It doesn't take many words to feel frustrated and defeated. To fight back, today's teens need strong minds, and the time-honored practice of Christian meditation can help them find victory in these spiritual battles."
"You can have peace, joy, and confidence that last when you intentionally hide God's Word in your heart and mind through Christian meditation."

39. Fear Not! Part 2
Last week, we talked about how God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear, so this week, we’re going to talk about what we can do to overcome fear every time it tries to come against us.
There is a famous saying among Christians that says, “A little bit of fear is good,” but did you know that’s not the case at all! God is so against fear…which is why God says 365 times in the Bible not to fear. The reason God doesn’t want us to fear is because fear brings bondage. It brings torment. And it brings oppression.
The first thing that we need to do is realize that God has already delivered us from anything that the enemy could try to throw at us.
Isaiah 54:17 says that no weapon that’s been formed against you by the enemy shall prosper. It cannot prosper. Psalm 91 says, that you don’t have to be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day. You don’t have to be afraid of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
The next thing you can do to overcome fear once and for all is to speak against it using the name of Jesus when you’re praying and if you need to speak against the devil, because he’s trying to distract you and pull you off of your faith.
Philippians 2:9-10 says that God has given Jesus the name which is above every other name and that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of those in heaven, of those on earth, and of those under the earth.
Now, that we have realized we are delivered from the enemy, we began to speak against the fear. The next thing we need to do is to act against that fear. Fear will always be in our face until we learn to face our fears. Psalm 118:6 tells us that God is on our side, we shall not fear. You have God on your side!
The next thing we need to do is decide to choose peace. 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your cares upon the Lord, for He cares about you. That word cast means to quickly toss…. quickly toss all your worry, all of your stress, all of your anxiety on the Lord. God never created you to worry. He created you to walk in peace.
Just like peace is a choice...fear is a choice. Refuse to fear and choose to trust God. 2 Timothy 1:7-God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power…. of love…and of a sound mind!
Ladies, you are strong, you are courageous, you are brave! You have God on your side. You don’t need to fear! So realize that you have been delivered from the enemy. Face your fears and speak against them in the name of Jesus. Soak in how much God loves you and choose to stand in peace.
Listen in to this week's episode to learn more about how you can overcome fear every time it tries to come against you.

As we come into the month where fear is celebrated…aka Halloween and all the stuff that goes along with it. I thought it would be a great time to talk about fear. This is going to be a two part series, so be sure to come back and listen to the 2nd part of this series!
I grew up in a family that was borderline obsessed with all things Halloween, scary movies, haunted houses, you name it. I was terrified of the dark. I was terrified of being alone.
It wasn’t until a couple years after I became a Christian, when a friend of mine asked me why I still watched scary movies, then he went on to explain that he didn’t watch scary movies, because he didn’t see the point. Why, when he was walking in faith, would he want to invite fear in. That thought process blew my mind.
Today, I’m not going to talk about whether you should watch scary movies, whether you should celebrate Halloween or whether you should go to haunted houses.
Today, I want to talk about going from fear to faith.
2 Timothy 1:7 tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind.
See, Paul understood a principle that God is trying to teach us. When we invite fear into our lives, we are pushing away our faith, so that we now are being controlled by fear instead of letting God be our guide and our protection.
To learn more about how to move from fear to faith, you won't want to miss out on this week's episode, "Fear Not Part 1."

37. Called to Lead!
What do you think of when you hear the words, "servant leader?"
At first, it almost sounds confusing right? I mean, aren't servants usually ones who serve leaders?
However, did you know that Jesus was the greatest servant leader of them all...and He called you to be a servant leader as well.
A servant leader is someone who leads by serving others.
Leadership can be summed up in one word: influence.
God has called you to be an influencer for His kingdom right now...right where you are! In fact, He needs to to be a servant leader right where you are...to shine your light on this dark and hurting and confused generation.
Check out today's episode to learn more about how you can step into being the leader God has called you to be!

37. Finding Purpose Where You Are: What Do You Do When You Don't Have a Date to the Dance?
Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 14th at 7pm Central, because I am going to be doing a 15 minute live video training that I believe will help you overcome any stress and anxiety that you might be feeling…and overcome any insecurities that might be holding you back. After the 15 minute live training, I am then going to open it up for you all to ask me questions live! Head on over to uncommonteen.com or you can click on the Brave Revolution tab on the UncommonTEEN app and get signed up there!
All right, so on this week’s episode, I am doing something a little different. I have had several emails lately from you beautiful ladies asking me pretty much the same question. I thought that if several of you are emailing me about the same thing, then there are definitely a lot more of you who have the same question as well.
For those of you who are in public schools, or private schools, or even some of you who are homeschooled and are a part of a co-op or a tutorial…most of you are probably aware that the season for dances is going strong. We have middle school dances. We have the homecoming dances, the court-warming dances, winter galas, and don’t even get me started on proms and the promposals!
A lot of times, if we aren’t careful, when we have these dances coming up in the calendar…we can begin to look around and think to ourselves…
What if nobody asks me to go? Or it seems like all of my friends have a date, except for me, what should I do? Or my friends are making fun of me for not having a date, should I even go?
There are all of these fears that go through out mind…and if we’re not careful, it can make us feel like we are ugly, that we aren’t good enough, that we’re not likeable, that there must be something wrong with us.
First, that cannot be further from the truth! You are beautiful because God designed you and He doesn’t make mistakes. You are beautiful, because you have Him, the creator of the Universe on the inside of you! Second, you don’t need a guy or anyone else to know that you are more than good enough! You are incredible just the way you are.
