Why Am I Eating When I’m Not Hungry?

FREE WORKSHOP: The Secret to Eating What You Want and Feeling Good in Your Clothes. Grab instant access here Back in 2004, I kept asking myself one question. Why am I eating when I’m not hungry? It was my worst year ever. I got divorced. I lost my job as a winemaker. I crashed my work ute driving home drunk. So yes. A pretty stressful time. And one of the ways I coped was food. For me it wasn’t Tim Tams or Oreos. It was granola. And cereal. I’d eat bucket loads of it. Without really tasting it. Looking back, that was the first time in my life I had a huge, out of control emotional eating problem. I can have compassion for that version of me now. Back then, I just felt lost. The Short Answer If you’re eating when you’re not hungry, it’s usually emotional hunger. Or stress hunger. It’s a really strong desire to eat that isn’t about food at all. It’s about soothing a feeling. And it’s not a character flaw. It’s not who you are. It’s a habit. A coping strategy. One you just haven’t found a replacement for yet. Eat what you want and feel good in your clothes I’m Jules Clancy. I’m an Australian food scientist and certified health coach.
