Mums Mysteries & Murder

Marti & Cheryl

We're two Mums living in Edinburgh who are obsessed with true crime and mysterious happenings, so obsessed we decided to start a podcast! Each month we take turns to tell stories from our homelands - Cheryl Scottish born and bred where haggis is NOT actually an animal and Marti from the land down under where no prawns have ever been thrown on a barbie, it needs to be said! So, if you want polished, professional true crime then this is not for you, maybe try Casefile. But if you love true crime and mystery like us & you can't stop talking about it, give us a listen! Its not big or clever but it is entertaining.

The Trial of Erin Patterson - Collab Episode with Tam from True Crime Bookcase

We know so many of you have been intrigued by the Erin Patterson case in Australia and have been chatting with us about your thoughts, so when we approached Tam from True Crime Bookcase who attended the trial in Australia recently and is an Erin Patterson guru we were delighted she was up for chatting with us on the podcast.  Tam runs the Instagram account True Crime Bookcase - If you love reading about True Crime, you need to start following her - we've gotten so many brilliant recommendations from her, and she will give you the honest truth - especially when it comes to Erin.   Go follow Tam at  https://www.instagram.com/truecrimebookcase/ This is a fascinating episode that gives real and genuine insight into what it's like to sit inside a highly publicised trial and get the real story from someone who was there, and is happy to answer all of our questions..  We also talk about the true crime genre and how it's changed over the last ten years, ethics and Tik Tok, Australian cases Tam is obsessed with, true crime books that are totally overrated, and the plethora of Ted Bundy books out now.  If you want to check out the podcast, Trace, as mentioned by Tam.  https://open.spotify.com/show/1ivHfQf6P5MkkYibN6QVWA?si=1866fff46fe94187 We can't wait to hear what you think about this episode, and a huge thank you to Tam for chatting with us.   Hosted by & Researched & written by Marti Jeremiah-Shelley & Effie McDonald Edited & Produced by Erin Ferguson https://www.instagram.com/erinfaudio/ Since 2023 ( earlier episodes are badly edited by us!) 5. The Murder of Scott Johnston

    07/23/2025

    The Murder of Scott Johnston

Trigger warning: In this episode, we talk a lot about suicide. Please skip this episode if you're not in the right place to listen.  Discussions of homophobia in Australia in the 80s is also heavily featured, so please take note.  We are covering the murder of Scott Johnston - Born in California on the 27th of November 1961 - he had such a promising future ahead of him, until he moved to Australia in the 80s.  We also talk about what we're watching to lighten the mood,  Australia in the 80s and how it wasn't all just awful fashion and big hair and Kris Jenners new "look"  Some might say we talk about that for way too long! The fantastic Rusell T Davies show we mention is called - Its A Sin  Sources for this episode -  Never Let Him Go Documentary on Disney + if you're in the UK - highly recommended, its much more in depth if you'd like to learn more about Scott's life.  Australian Story - On the precipice  Hosted by & Researched & written by Marti Jeremiah-Shelley & Effie McDonald Edited & Produced by Erin Ferguson https://www.instagram.com/erinfaudio/ Since 2023 ( earlier episodes are badly edited by us!)
