    Re-Post: “The Hell of False Light” - Episode 5 in the series, “Heaven and Hell”

    In this summer repeat, Patrick and Jonah continue their exploration of heaven and hell by turning toward a surprising image: the false paradise. Beginning with Christ’s words to the criminal on the cross, “Today you will be with me in paradise,” they ask what true paradise is, and how it differs from a pleasant, controlled, painless world that avoids the cross. The conversation explores the danger of a light that carries a lie within it: a vision of perfection without love, truth without compassion, and utopia built by force. Patrick and Jonah name this as one of the subtler forms of hell, a darkness that masquerades as light and promises peace by eliminating whatever does not fit its vision. Against this false paradise, they point toward the true paradise opened by Christ: the path of compassion, patient endurance, sacrificial love, and the willingness to suffer with others rather than harden the heart. At the heart of the episode is the mystery that heaven is not built by escaping the cross, but by entering the love that passes through death into resurrection. Ask us a question here!     Re-Post: “Dust, Demons and Golgotha as Cosmic Battleground” - Episode 4 in the series, “Heaven and Hell”

    In this summer repeat, Patrick and Jonah turn from the mystery of heaven toward the mystery of hell. Beginning again with Christ’s words in John 8, “I am the light of the world,” they ask what this light means in relation to darkness, death, and the fallen world. The conversation explores biblical images of hell as distance from God: the belly of the beast, the depths of the sea, the dust realm, the pit, and the powers of death that threaten to bind the human soul to what is passing away. Patrick and Jonah consider how Christ enters this realm not by escaping death, but by passing through it, transforming death itself into a servant of life. Together they reflect on Golgotha as the decisive encounter between the light of Christ and the powers of darkness, and on what it means for human beings to remain connected to heaven on earth even in the presence of despair.     In this summer repeat, Patrick and Jonah continue their conversation on heaven and hell by exploring the “three heavens”: the primal heaven from which we come and to which we return in sleep and death, the hidden kingdom of heaven now present on earth through Christ, and the future New Jerusalem toward which creation is moving. Together they ask what it means that Christ is “the Lord of the heavenly forces upon earth,” and why the earth is the place where human freedom, moral responsibility, and sacrificial love can truly awaken.     In this summer repeat, Patrick and Jonah continue their conversation on the mysteries of heaven and hell by exploring what it means for Christ to be “the Lord of the heavenly forces upon earth.” Beginning with John 8:12 and the image of Christ as the light of the world, they consider the ancient experience of the skies, sun, moon, stars, and seasons as living revelations of divine activity. The conversation moves through Psalm 19, ancient sacred sites aligned with the sun, the Hebrew movement away from worshiping created things, and the Christian understanding that the heavenly forces have come to earth through Christ.     The Church, Cosmic Christianity & the Circle of Salvation, episode 13 in the series 'Salvation'

    In this episode, Jonah and Patrick continue their exploration of the question of inclusion and exclusion. If Christ’s presence is universal, if he has entered into the life of all humanity, what does it mean for each person to recognize him freely? What does it mean to confess him, to commune with him, and to receive his life without turning salvation into a club, a boundary marker, or a ticket purchased through the right words? The conversation moves through the Eucharist, the image of the church, the mystery of the “true” Christian community, and the difference between an earthly institution and the much larger spiritual body of those who come to know the healing power of Christ. Patrick offers the image of Christ as the spiritual sun: not one star among many, but the source whose forces make inner moral life, transformation, and resurrection possible. From there, the question becomes not simply “Who is in?” but “How does each human being come to recognize the one whose light is already shining?” By the end, the episode rests near the road to Emmaus: the disciples have already known Jesus, yet they do not immediately recognize the risen Christ walking beside them. Recognition takes time, unfolding, bread, blessing, and the gradual awakening of the heart. And perhaps this is one of the deep questions of salvation in our time: why does it matter that we come to recognize him consciously, freely, and in love? Ask us a question here!
