20 Minute Yoga Flow - Practice Steadiness & Ease

This 20-minute yoga flow is an exploration of sthira and sukha, steadiness and ease. This practice uses breath, mindfulness, and intentional movement to help you find that balance in your body. No props are required, but if you like to soften your space a little bit, a blanket can be a nice option to have nearby. This class is suitable for all levels. Frequently Asked Questions Q: What do sthira and sukha mean? A: Sthira and sukha are Sanskrit terms from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, one of the foundational texts of classical yoga. Sthira means steadiness, stability, or firmness. Sukha means ease, lightness, or comfort. Together they describe the ideal quality of any yoga posture: rooted and stable, while also open and at ease. The teaching suggests that the best yoga practice holds both qualities simultaneously, rather than choosing one at the expense of the other. Q: What are the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali? A: The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is an ancient text composed of 196 short aphorisms outlining the philosophy and practice of yoga. Written around 400 CE, it is one of the most important foundational texts in the yoga tradition. The concept of sthira sukha appears in sutra 2.46, which describes the essential quality of a yoga posture as being both steady and comfortable. Q: Do I need any props for this yoga flow? A: No props are needed for this class. Just a yoga mat or a clear patch of floor and enough space to move comfortably. If you want to have a blanket nearby, that can be nice to soften the surface if you have sensitive knees. E162: 10 MIN EVENING MEDITATION | Legs Up the Wall + Guided Meditation

Give your body and mind a pause. This 10-minute guided meditation takes you through legs up the wall (Viparita Karani), a gentle restorative pose where the wall does the work and you get to let go. Perfect after a long day on your feet, a stressful stretch, or any time you need to slow down. Through calming breath work and a soft body scan, you'll be guided to release tension from your legs, ease your mind, and settle into deep rest. What you'll need: - A free stretch of wall and a mat or soft floor or seat of a chair - Optional: a folded blanket or bolster under your hips, and a small pillow for your head - 10 quiet minutes Tips: - Place your hips a few inches from the wall. Closer is more intense, so find what feels comfortable. - Bend your knees or slide away from the wall anytime you need to. A note on safety: This practice is for relaxation and is not medical advice. If you're pregnant or have glaucoma, high blood pressure, or neck or back concerns, check with your healthcare provider before doing inverted poses. Stop if anything feels uncomfortable.
