    The United States and Iran have exchanged fresh military strikes after Iranian forces reportedly shot down a US Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, marking the latest escalation in a conflict that shows little sign of ending. The US responded with strikes on Iranian military targets overnight, while Iran launched retaliatory attacks against American bases across the Gulf. Although neither side appears eager to return to full-scale war, the exchange has underscored the fragility of the current situation and the risk of a prolonged cycle of retaliation.
