Corin Tucker of heavens to betsy

Check any list of essential riot grrl bands that were on the forefront of that trailblazing feminist music movement of the early 1990's, and you'll find heavens to betsy namechecked alongside bands like Bratmobile, Bikini Kill, and Team Dresch. Formed in 1991 by Corin Tucker and Tracy Sawyer as a duo, the band released one proper studio album, rose quickly to fame and then disbanded in 1994, giving way to the formation of Corin's next band with Carrie Brownstein, Sleater-Kinney. Now 32 years later, heavens to betsy have reunited for a tour and a newly released compilation, called baby's gone. Corin joins Carmel Holt to discuss the reunion, the current topical resonance of the songs she wrote as a teenager, and the unexpected ways revisiting this project has opened doors for her as a 50-something woman. Paula Cole

Quite unintentionally, (but also quite awesomely) we seem to be on a roll of welcoming SHEROES of the 90's and beyond to the pod lately and we are 100% ok with that. This week we welcome the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Paula Cole to discuss her new two volume collection SONIC MEMOIR: Demos 1989 - 1998, reflections on what she discovered and rediscovered digging through her archive, and why post-menopausal women are going to save the world. Rhiannon Giddens

The always-inspiring, astonishingly prolific, multi-Grammy-winning, Pulitzer-Prize-winner Rhiannon Giddens returns to SHEROES to talk about her brand new album, Hope Is The Thing With Feathers - her seventh album.  This is our third time welcoming Rhiannon to the show , and it's absolutely mind-boggling what she has accomplished in the last decade, let alone her 20-year career. It sounds like she is ready to slow down for a while, and who can blame her? But before that happens, she has an upcoming leading role in a film, a new book, and she mentioned two other albums she had recorded (!). *** Thanks to Qobuz for hosting us in their NYC headquarters to record this interview! _________________________________________ Also!
