The Trust Gap: Why Your Team Isn't Following Your Lead

The senior team leaves an off-site with a new strategy, new priorities, and a beautiful slide deck. Everyone applauds. Six weeks later, the frontline is doing exactly what it did before. What happened? In Episode 152 of the Leadership Sandbox, Tammy J. Bond explores the connection between trust and execution. Drawing on the DDI Global Leadership Forecast for 2027, she discusses the reported trust gap between individual contributors and leaders, and why trust is not a soft culture issue. It directly affects whether decisions become action. Tammy identifies three patterns that erode trust: the say-do gap, decision fog, and overloaded managers. Then she shares five practical actions leaders can put to work this week: Stop passing along decisions as "corporate says." Understand the what, the why, and what it means for your team. Run a say-do audit and close one gap between what you say matters and where your time goes. Close the loop within 48 hours, even when the answer is that you do not know yet. Name your misses out loud and explain what you will do differently. Protect one hour each week for leadership growth, and protect that time for the managers you lead. The strategy may not have failed in the boardroom. It may have failed in the gap between the decision and the people asked to carry it out. Trust is what fills that gap. Sandbox Challenge: Pick one of the five actions and put it into practice this week. Then tell Tammy how it went.

Stop Managing the Manager Who Won't Manage Their People | Episode 150

Stop Managing the Manager Who Won't Manage Their People | Episode 150 What happens when your biggest accountability problem isn't the underperforming employee, but the manager who refuses to address it? You've seen it. An employee repeatedly misses expectations, their manager makes excuses, and eventually the problem lands on your desk. Now you're managing the manager AND their employee. Sound familiar? In this episode of The Leadership Sandbox™, Tammy J. Bond challenges senior leaders to stop rescuing managers who won't manage their people. We're tackling three leadership realities: Why you cannot hold an employee more accountable than their manager is willing to. How empathy without clear standards becomes permission for underperformance. Why holding people accountable is a manager's deliverable, not an optional leadership skill. Tammy also shares the questions leaders need to ask when a manager repeatedly escalates employee performance problems instead of addressing them, and how the COMMAND™ Leadership Behavior Operating System makes accountability visible, measurable, coachable, and repeatable. The question for this week: What are you tolerating that you're also complaining about? Because sometimes the performance conversation you need to have isn't with the employee. It's with their manager. Want to build stronger leadership accountability in your organization? Q4 Pressure Isn't the Problem. Your Leadership System Is

Your Q4 results won't change simply because the calendar does. If you're heading into the final quarter telling your team, "We need more urgency," stop for a minute. The pressure you're feeling in Q4 may have been created by leadership behaviors you've tolerated for the previous nine months. In this episode of Leadership Sandbox™, Tammy J. Bond challenges leaders to look at three behaviors that quietly undermine execution: 1. Stop rescuing. If every decision, problem or deadline requires you, you haven't built accountability. You've built dependency. 2. Stop confusing a conversation with accountability. Talking about an expectation isn't accountability. Your people need to know the standard, who owns it, what success looks like, what resources are available—and By When™. 3. Stop adding priorities without removing something. When everything becomes urgent, your team loses the ability to determine what actually matters. Your people don't need another motivational speech about "finishing strong." They need clarity about what matters now, what stops now, who owns it and what winning looks like. Because Q4 doesn't magically change results. Leadership behavior changes results. Want to go deeper? Bond Group Enterprises is launching new leadership groups designed for leaders who are ready to strengthen their leadership behaviors, build accountability and create better results through the COMMAND™ Leadership Behavior Operating System.
