Plum Creek Church: Podcast

Plum Creek Church

We’re a local church that wants to follow the way of Jesus in simple and practical ways. We love people wherever they are on their spiritual journey and believe that if Jesus was right about God, life, and the soul, then it only makes sense to rearrange our lives around what he says is true. That way of life is then filtered through our values: Live Like Jesus Live Life Together Live Irrationally Generous Live Contributing These hallmarks of a changed life provide the needed target our God-sized vision requires.  That’s why our vision of seeing changed lives, changing lives is so important to us—because when you choose to follow Jesus like this, it really does change everything. You want new life. So what are you still clinging to? /// The Way: Part 2

We're so glad you've chosen to listen to our online experience! Here at Plum Creek, we’re all about changed lives, changing lives; and what that simply means is that what Christ has done in us is not just for us, but it’s for us to share with others in our community and around the world.     /// If you're using this teaching for a Home Groups setting, we've included discussion prompts to help guide your conversation: 1. What does it look like for you to “die to yourself” in the ordinary decisions you make each day? 2. Pastor Tomy described following Jesus as “a thousand daily surrenders”; discuss one area where surrender feels especially costly or difficult right now. 3. Read Matthew 10:37 to 39 and consider why Jesus connects giving up our lives with actually finding life. 4. Emily’s story showed someone choosing Jesus even when it cost her family relationships; how does her example challenge the way you think about the cost of discipleship? 5. Consider what you may be holding onto too tightly (approval, reputation, comfort, bitterness, control, or something else) and what new life might become possible if you surrendered it to Jesus.     ///     Wondering what Plum Creek Church is all about? What deserves the center of your life? /// The Way: Part 1

What have you arranged your life around, and how can you tell that it has become the center of your attention, priorities, or decisions? 2. Pastor Eric said that nobody has an unarranged life. Discuss what is currently shaping you most and whether that influence is moving you closer to Jesus. 3. Look up Matthew 8:19 to 22 and discuss what Jesus’ responses reveal about the cost of following him. 4. Consider Pastor Eric’s statement that “you cannot rearrange your life around words you have never heard.” What could it look like for you to become more familiar with what Jesus actually said? 5. Identify one area of your life that may need to be rearranged around Jesus, and describe one practical step you could take this week.     ///     Wondering what Plum Creek Church is all about? Are you trying to do the part only God can do? /// Built: Part 4

Where might small compromises be creating room in your heart for something that is pulling you away from Jesus? 2. Bob repeated the idea that “people participate, God builds”; describe an area of your life where you need to faithfully participate while trusting God with the outcome. 3. Look up Ezekiel 36:26 to 27 and reflect on what changes when heart transformation is understood as something God does in us rather than something we accomplish by effort alone. 4. Think about John driving three hours just to spend 15 minutes with Bob during his grief; who might God be asking you to simply be present with right now? 5. If “our withness is our witness,” how could the way you spend your time and show up for people reveal Jesus more clearly than your words alone?      ///     Wondering what Plum Creek Church is all about?
