Welcome to the first episode of our October Spooky Movies series on Nostalgia Check, where Brendan and Juan finally watch the 1997 sci-fi horror classic Event Horizon for the very first time! Starring Sam Neill, Laurence Fishburne, Joely Richardson, and Jason Isaacs, Event Horizon follows a rescue crew sent to investigate a mysterious spaceship that has reappeared after disappearing during its experimental journey through space. What they discover aboard the Event Horizon is something far more horrifying than they ever imagined. Directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, this 1997 science fiction horror film has built a legendary reputation for its disturbing imagery, psychological terror, unsettling atmosphere, and unforgettable descent into cosmic horror. But does Event Horizon still hold up nearly 30 years later? Is it a genuinely terrifying horror movie, an underrated sci-fi masterpiece, or just a collection of disturbing nightmares held together by a spaceship? Brendan and Juan are putting this cult horror classic to the test in our first-time watch episode of Nostalgia Check.     Starship Troopers (1997) - Nostalgia Check

Before the internet turned Starship Troopers into one of the most frequently misunderstood cult movies of the 1990s, it was a giant bug killing, space fighting, military science fiction movie packed with explosions, gore, cheesy performances, wild special effects, and a whole lot more going on underneath the surface. But does Lincoln actually live up to its massive reputation? Brendan and Juan break down Lincoln for the first time, discussing Daniel Day-Lewis’s Oscar-winning performance, Steven Spielberg’s direction, the historical drama, the performances, the writing, the pacing, the Civil War setting, Abraham Lincoln’s character, the 13th Amendment, and whether Lincoln deserves its reputation as one of the greatest historical movies of the 21st century. Is Lincoln a masterpiece? Is it too slow? Does Daniel Day-Lewis completely disappear into the role? And most importantly, does LINCOLN pass the Nostalgia Check? We also make a BIG change to the Nostalgia Check wheel of years. Instead of continuing to randomly select movies from 2015 through 2025, we removed the entire 2015 to 2025 range and added the COMPLETE 1980s to the wheel.
