178: Lindsey Lockett: Stop Chasing Calm, It's Keeping You Stuck

Access Kelly's Turn On Training here.  Most people chase a state of calm and relief… but what if that’s the wrong goal? Lindsey Lockett is a trauma integrator and relational weaver who woke up to her own healing hamster wheel inside a psych hospital. Lindsey spent a decade chasing perfect gut health, perfect sleep, and perfect everything. Then her psych hospital stay following a suicide attempt in March 2019 showed her the bone broth, the supplements, and the perfect protocols were not what she actually needed.  Lindsey names something most people skip: the pregnant pause after you tell the truth. It’s the moment the other person's face shifts and their trained instinct wants to soften what you said, so they do not have to feel it. She defines authenticity as embodied allegiance to yourself under pressure. She is clear that it is not a boundaries speech or an ego trip about not caring what anyone thinks. She also explains why she’s moving away from polyvagal theory as the dominant framework, why calm is only one configuration of the nervous system, and how integrity has to sit underneath any expression of truth. If you have felt more fractured after years of nervous system work, not less, Lindsey's take will land. You’ll learn: [0:00] Introduction [7:08] The hamster wheel of healing that leaves women no more joyful [12:45] How victim consciousness follows you into greenwashed medicine [16:00] Making the shift into radical responsibility and real safety [27:25] The pregnant pause after speaking a hard truth [38:36] Female conditioning that made self-abandonment feel safest [43:05] Building capacity through imagination and rehearsal [46:11] Discernment as the place authenticity emerges from [56:18] Weaponized authenticity and the pendulum swing to synthesis [1:00:35] Why fewer nervous system tools means more resolution 👉🏻 Want to start a podcast like this one? 177: How to End Generational Trauma in 30 Minutes | Mark Wolynn

Save your seat for Kelly's Turn on Training here. Access Kelly's Beauty Backroom event here. If you've done years of inner work and still feel stuck in the same patterns, you probably inherited your trauma. Mark is the director of The Family Constellation Institute and the author of It Didn't Start with You, a book that has sold more than three million copies and reframed how we think about depression, anxiety, and chronic illness that seem to come out of nowhere. I've been a family constellation zealot for years, and this conversation gets at the thing I've struggled to explain to people who assume this work is magical thinking. Mark walks through the actual mechanics of how a grandmother's car accident can show up as a granddaughter's self-injury decades later, and why conventional psychiatry keeps missing it. We talk about the Harvard Mastery of Stress study, the three unconscious ways we reproduce a broken bond with a parent, and the specific milestones (marriage, pregnancy, moving, rejection) that tend to trigger inherited patterns. If you've ever wondered whether a fear, a symptom, or a relationship pattern is actually yours, this is the episode that gives you a way to tell. Mark also shares why he rewrote his book after all these years, and what he's found about attachment breaks that changed how he works with almost everyone who walks in his door. You’ll learn: [0:00] Introduction [7:21] The self-injurer whose cutting traced back to her grandmother's guilt [15:02] How family constellations differ from psychodrama [19:43] Whether anyone can stand as a representative in the field [27:21] Three unconscious ways rejecting a parent shapes a life [31:44] Telling inherited trauma apart from attachment trauma [40:24] Reading the breadcrumb trail when the family history is lost [45:58] Why 85 percent of his work turns out to be attachment [54:44] Symptoms as the doorway and the meaning behind incarnation 👉🏻 Want to start a podcast like this one? The day Mama Gena’s life was designed to collapse was the same day she chose to turn herself on instead. Regena Thomashauer, known to most as Mama Gena, is the founder of the School of Womanly Arts and the author of five books, including the New York Times bestseller P***y: A Reclamation. Her new book, On Our Knees, is the reason we had this conversation. I have followed her work for years, and reading this book felt like being caught up on decades of her life in a single sitting. Our paths could not look more different on paper. Mine ran through psychiatric wards in New York with suicidal women coming off medications. Hers ran through living rooms filled with women in sequins and feathers. The conclusion we both landed on about what a woman's life is actually for turned out to be identical. This conversation is about aliveness as a discipline. It is about what a woman does when she gets sued, taxed, divorced, and asked to deliver a career-defining event in the same 24 hours. Mama Gena calls the practice volitional heat. If you have been told you are too much, this one is for you. You’ll learn: [0:00] Introduction [7:17] A woman alive is the most dangerous force on this plane [12:10] The permission field women grant each other in the dark [14:13] Turn-on as a choice and the responsibility of volitional heat [21:22] Getting sued the day her whole company hinged on one event [23:23] Walking through the “On Our Knees Move” live on the podcast [30:34] How pleasure floods the body with oxytocin and dopamine [34:28] The regrettable impulse and loving your story unconditionally [46:45] Why women celebrate bad news instead of their radiance 👉🏻 Want to start a podcast like this one? Drop a "my blast" comment sharing something you're excited about, proud of, or loving about yourself, for a chance to win a free Beauty Backroom Peptide Perfecting Complex Face Serum or Moisturizer, gifted weekly! Is it possible to have a relationship with a narcissist? That question kicks off this episode, and the answer sits far outside the usual "set boundaries and move on" advice. Boundaries aren't a personality trait. They're a container. Sometimes they mean blocking a number. Sometimes they mean a full blackout from your family of origin so you can step out of the trauma field long enough to hear yourself. The relationship with your mother matters more than almost any other work you'll do. She's the anima imprint you project onto every woman, every doctor, every system of care. Resentment toward her chokes off creativity, vitality, and erotic energy in ways most women never trace back to the source. Family constellation work changed my life on this exact issue, and I explain why I recommend it before any deeper trauma modality. Compassion, neutrality, and even harmony are on the table. None of it requires her to become the mother she couldn't be. You’ll learn: [0:00] Introduction [2:10] Having a real relationship with a textbook narcissist while still keeping boundaries [4:07] Why your mother owes you nothing, and how loosening that expectation frees you [6:07] Family constellation is the low-hanging fruit with no downside 👉🏻 Want to start a podcast like this one? 174: They've Brainwashed You to Think Psych Meds Are Good, But They Make You Worse

Access Kelly's Turn On Training here.  Psychiatric medications only make you worse. A Yale study found that 1 in 23 people prescribed an antidepressant go on to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and the field calls that "unmasking" rather than causation. I trained as one of the first 300 reproductive psychiatrists in the world, and I stopped writing prescriptions in 2010 after research on long-term outcomes reframed everything I'd been taught about efficacy and safety. The recent Lindsay Clancy case pulled me back into activist territory after years of stepping away from it. This episode is my attempt to say what I thought I'd already said loudly enough. There's literature on treatment-emergent violence to self and others that most prescribers have never read. There's a phenomenon called tardive dysphoria. There's David Healy's work on stable volunteers becoming acutely suicidal after exposure to psychotropics. If you've ever considered a psychiatric medication to get through a hard chapter, or if you love someone who has, this is the fuller picture I wish more people had access to before the prescription pad comes out. 173: The Dark Side of the "Community Culture" Nobody Talks About

Access Kelly's Turn On Training here.  Save your seat for Kelly's Turn on Training here. Everyone tells you that you need to be in a community, but what if that was one of the most dangerous things you could do? This is a solo episode, and I am walking through the arc of my own relationship to community, from Francis Weller's work on the village we never had, to the small circle of Waldorf mamas in Miami, to the plandemic years when intentional community felt like a lifeline. A lot of what I chased did not hold. Friend groups fractured over values. The sovereign communities collapsed under interpersonal conflict. Even the online spaces started to feel like surrogate families carrying weight they were never designed to carry. The tension I keep returning to is this: Community asks for a fixed set of shared beliefs. I am someone who evolves, changes my mind, and drops ideologies when they stop resonating for me. Those two things do not fit cleanly together. I also share what my friend Alyssa is doing that seems to be working, and why the ache I felt listening to her did not translate into wanting her life. You’ll learn: [0:00] Introduction [2:23] The community wound and why Francis Weller says it haunts us all [5:00] How I detonated a bomb in my holistic mom group over values [8:49] Why conscious communities keep collapsing under their own projections [11:03] The one friend whose thriving community makes me ache with longing [12:58] The part of me that has zero interest in community at all [18:33] Ideology-based communities become cults you can be punished for leaving [21:37] An HOA with nothing in common is somehow even weirder [23:16] Recurring revenue and digital membership sell community as a false cure [26:37] The ideological prison distorting how women approach beauty and surgery [30:33] Tom Cowan on why shared ideology fails without a shared project Resources Mentioned: Own Your Self by Kelly Brogan, MD | Book or AudiobookThe Wild Edge of Sorrow by Francis Weller | Book or Audiobook 👉🏻 Want to start a podcast like this one? 172: Elisabeth McKay: Conventional Mental Health is Fixing The Wrong Thing

Access Kelly's Turn On Training here.  Save your seat for Kelly's Turn on Training, 8/12 at 12PM ET here. Elisabeth "Bizzie" McKay built a behavior prediction technology that’s 98.3% accurate, and it exposes why most mental health diagnoses are pattern recognition wearing a lab coat. Elisabeth is a tech founder, behavior futurist, and the creator of Brain Pattern Mapping and Break Method, a rewiring system built on 12 years of data across thousands of clients, prison populations, and residential programs. I did her PredictiveMind™ session before we recorded, and one specific finding cracked open something I'd been circling for years: why I can be fully assertive in one dynamic and completely fawning in another. It comes down to perceived power, and until the Elisabeth named it, I couldn't see it. Elisabeth describes her five brain pattern types, the separation of abandonment from rejection wounds, and why narrative talk therapy misses the actual root cause of behavior. She also explains why borderline and narcissism can shift, despite what the establishment claims. If you've been sorting yourself with Instagram carousels and attachment labels, this conversation will make that framework feel very small. You’ll learn: [0:00] Introduction [5:01] From mental health to celebrity trainer and back again [9:02] The mother with borderline personality disorder behind her mission [20:59] Psychiatric diagnosis is pattern recognition dressed up as science [37:51] The five brain pattern types, and why we shift between them [45:55] Abandonment and rejection wounds are not the same, mental health conflates them [58:52] The cowboy pattern, and how childhood repetition predicts who you become [1:05:03] 100 years of the mental health establishment may be a farce [1:08:53] Can borderlines and narcissists actually heal, or just manage? [1:22:36] The "I'm the narcissist" moment, and why Instagram makes it worse 👉🏻 Want to start a podcast like this one? Book your free podcast planning call here. Ditte Young is a clairvoyant, an internationally renowned telepath featured on The Telepathy Tapes, a TEDx speaker, and a bestselling author whose work bridges animal communication, parenting, and intuitive development. My karmic cat Mushu has triggered more inner work than almost anything else in my adult life, so this conversation went somewhere personal fast. Ditte explains how animals experience pain, why none of the dying animals she has sat with were afraid, and what's really happening when your pet seems to be mirroring your emotional state. She also addresses the question I think many animal lovers privately wrestle with: how do you eat meat while loving animals as soulful beings? Her answer surprised me. So did her perspective on why punishment fails with every species, and why one simple sentence spoken to your pet before you leave the house actually lands. You’ll learn: [0:00] Introduction [6:16] How Ditte discovered she could hear animals as a sensitive child [10:56] Why animals mirror our nervous systems and become more than just a pet [13:54] Exploring whether some animals spiritually contract to carry our unconscious conflicts [15:48] Why an animal's illness might reflect the human's unaddressed issues [18:30] Elephants and dolphins reveal which intelligence actually measures [22:07] The unresolvable dilemma of loving animals and eating them for dinner [35:32] Punishment never works and what to do instead of the spray bottle [42:44] What animals actually feel about pain and dying, and why they're never afraid [48:13] Can a soul cross species, or does a cat soul stay a cat soul [52:32] The envelope test and why telepathy is the easy part 👉🏻 Want to start a podcast like this one?
