I listened to this podcast last summer. Profound. Moments of deep tears. Moments of insight. Moments of laughter. Healing, affirmation, lightbulb moments. Growth. Affirmation.
I have not lost my faith, but when I say that I mean in God, when it comes to institutions I am more and more cautious. 53 and finally learning group dynamics. Things that could've saved my butt 1 million times over and many years ago.
In some senses loving gracious naïve to caused issues that were unhealthy to go over my head like water off of ducks back, but not always, and there were subtle influences that I was missing. This is about institutional religion but it's also not. It's about institutions.
Regardless, this podcast is a big mess, and I thought thoughts after listening to it should I get the book. OMG. Get the book!
I have not finished the book. I'm not even halfway through. Things with this level of profundity require dosing for full absorption. Lol (retired nurse here). I am not done with the church, but I am definitely done with tolerating unhealthy dynamic, unhealthy leadership, unhealthy structure particularly and especially when it hurts me and or people in general. Jesus said wash the dust off your feet and walk away. I am learning more, when to do this. I'm learning discernment. Hillary's teaching offer so much opportunity for birth. For profound emotional and mental healing, absolutely recommend. And the content is amazing but also, the graciousness, the voice, approach. I have to play things at .75 speed, and even then frequently rewind, pause, take notes, to ponder and process to internalize new thoughts, to allow myself liberty, to absorb the grace. To allow the gentleness to affect me. Hillary's affect and non-coercive approach is more like the God that I believe in that I often see within an institutional religious systems, or the people within it. It is a refreshing reset.
Highly recommend.
Hillary. Girl-you are indeed a very powerful healer. Thank you for paving the way for the rest of us. I'm sorry for what it personally cost you, but I thank you for the gift. I have finished this podcast and 1 1/2 of your books but in a world where I am overwhelmed with media, opportunities and options and could never consume them all, getting through everything that you have released is high priority on my list.
Thank you. You are powerful. You are healthy. You are important. That sounds like I'm pissing up, but I mean it really objectively. What you offer is what a lot of people need whether or not they are willing or even will ever be able. It would be amazing if the church would absorb your teaching and these attitudes. So much healthIer! 🫶🏼
