Opening Week Everybody is a Winner (except the losers)

Carolina’s Own is back for the first full breakdown of the 2026 ACC football season, and after months of projections, roster talk, and preseason expectations, there is finally real football to evaluate. The crew opens with Florida State’s loss to SMU and the growing questions surrounding Mike Norvell, from the Seminoles’ quarterback situation and personnel decisions to transfer portal spending and whether the program has gotten enough return on its investment. From there, the conversation turns to Clemson after a 51-10 loss to LSU raised even bigger questions about the direction of the program. The group debates whether Dabo Swinney’s approach to roster building has fallen too far behind the changing landscape of college football and whether Clemson can continue competing nationally without fully embracing the transfer portal, NIL, and a more modern personnel structure. The opening week also produced reasons for optimism around the conference. Miami’s offense looks capable of becoming one of the most explosive units in college football, Louisville went toe-to-toe with Ole Miss, and Virginia Tech offered an encouraging first look at the James Franklin era. The crew discusses what each performance revealed and which teams may be positioned to emerge as legitimate ACC contenders. The guys also revisit former North Carolina quarterback Gio Lopez after a big debut at Wake Forest, reopening last season’s debate over how much of his struggle at UNC was about the quarterback and how much was about the system around him. Georgia Tech, Boston College, Syracuse, Pitt, Cal, and the rest of the opening ACC slate round out the first conference-wide evaluation of the season. The episode closes by looking ahead to the next round of games and the matchups that should begin separating early impressions from legitimate trends. The offseason predictions are over. ACC football is back, and now the results get to decide which expectations were right. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Can Virginia Repeat? | Tony Elliott's Big Test in 2026

This week on Bleav in ACC, the guys continue their 2026 ACC preview series by taking an in-depth look at the Virginia Cavaliers. After entering last season with Tony Elliott firmly on the hot seat, Virginia shocked the conference with an 11-3 campaign and an appearance in the ACC Championship Game. The crew discusses how Elliott transformed the program, whether his contract extension was warranted, and what role veteran consultant Scott Pioli may have played behind the scenes. The conversation dives into one of the ACC's best defenses from a season ago, highlighting Virginia's ability to force turnovers, dominate on third down, and consistently win close football games. The hosts also discuss defensive coordinator John Rudzinski's impact, how Virginia rebuilt its roster through the transfer portal, and the challenges of integrating experienced transfers with returning players. Offensively, the discussion centers on Tony Elliott's system, the departure of key playmakers, the quarterback competition, and whether Virginia has done enough to replace its production through the portal. The guys also debate the growing trend of veteran quarterbacks seeking additional years of eligibility and how NIL continues to shape roster construction across college football. To close the show, Ronnie, D-Block, and JD predict every remaining game on Virginia's 2026 schedule, debate whether the Cavaliers can surpass the 7.5-win projection, and explain why Tony Elliott enters the season under far different circumstances than he did just one year ago. Be sure to subscribe to Bleav in ACC on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts, and follow along each week as we preview every ACC team leading into the 2026 football season. College Football's Biggest Rule Change in Years | The 5-for-5 Era Begins

College football is entering a new era as the NCAA moves toward its new 5-for-5 eligibility model, giving athletes five seasons to play within five years. Ronnie McGill, D-Block, and JD break down what the rule actually means, why the traditional redshirt could become a thing of the past, and how the changes affect recruiting, roster management, NIL, and player development. The conversation explores whether this system will create NFL-style practice squads in college football, how coaches may handle young talent differently, and whether players will be more or less likely to enter the transfer portal. The crew also discusses the long-term impact on high school recruiting, injury waivers, medical hardships, and the growing influence of federal legislation on college athletics. Later, they shift to Brendan Sorsby's gambling controversy after the former quarterback lost his college eligibility and failed to receive an NFL supplemental draft opportunity. Ronnie explains how the supplemental draft process actually works, why the NFL took the position it did, and what realistic options remain for Sorsby's football future. If you enjoy in-depth conversations about college football, roster building, NCAA policy, and the future of the sport, this episode delivers an insider's perspective from former players and NFL personnel executives. The U Is Back: Can Miami Win It All in 2026?

Miami is once again one of the biggest stories in college football, and this episode dives into whether "The U" is officially back. The crew debates Mario Cristobal's impact on the program and whether Miami's rise should be credited primarily to Cristobal's recruiting and culture-building or to the arrival of elite talent like Cam Ward. From rebuilding the roster to restoring Miami's national relevance, the discussion centers on how the Hurricanes have returned to the championship conversation. The conversation then shifts to new starting quarterback Darian Mensah and the controversial path that brought him from Duke to Miami. The hosts discuss Mensah's talent, his fit in Miami's offense, and why many believe he may be an upgrade at the position. They also examine the arrival of star receiver Cooper Bar-Kate and how Miami's offense could be even more explosive in 2026. On the defensive side, the crew breaks down the challenge of replacing NFL-caliber talent such as Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor while highlighting the next wave of Miami defenders ready to step into larger roles. With Jason Taylor continuing to develop elite defensive linemen and several highly regarded recruits waiting in the wings, the Hurricanes appear positioned to maintain one of the ACC's most talented defenses. Finally, the hosts analyze Miami's 2026 schedule game-by-game, debate the toughest tests on the slate, and discuss whether the Hurricanes can navigate key matchups against Clemson, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, and Florida State. The discussion concludes with predictions for Miami's season record and whether this roster has what it takes to compete for an ACC Championship, College Football Playoff berth, and potentially a national title. Is Miami truly back? The guys make their case and explain why the Hurricanes may have their best opportunity in years to reclaim college football's biggest stage. The Knicks End the Drought + The Brendan Sorsby Fallout

The New York Knicks are NBA champions for the first time since 1973, and the crew kicks off the show by discussing what the title means for New York fans and the league as a whole. They debate whether the Knicks have surpassed the Dallas Cowboys as "America's Team" and explore why Madison Square Garden continues to hold a unique place in sports. The conversation shifts to Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. The hosts discuss Wembanyama's growing edge, his physical style of play during the Finals, and whether the NBA needs more rivalries and villains to bring back some of the intensity that defined previous eras of basketball. The crew also takes a closer look at De'Aaron Fox and the costly decisions he made during the Finals. Was it simply a bad stretch of basketball, or were the mistakes so unusual that comparisons to the now-infamous "Sorsby" label are fair? The guys debate whether pressure, injuries, or the moment itself contributed to Fox's struggles. The discussion then turns to Brendan Sorsby and the latest chapter in one of college football's most talked-about stories. With Sorsby stepping away from competition amid ongoing controversy, the hosts discuss whether the decision was truly his own, the role of the NCAA and the Big 12, and whether the outcome was inevitable. The episode wraps up with a look at Sorsby's NFL future. The crew examines the Supplemental Draft process, discusses where they value Sorsby as a prospect, and debates whether NFL teams will be willing to take a chance on him despite the off-field headlines. On this episode of Bleav in the ACC, the spotlight turns to Georgia Tech as the crew continues its comprehensive preview of every ACC program entering the 2026 season. Darian, Ronnie, and JD examine the challenges facing the Yellow Jackets after the departure of quarterback Haynes King and discuss whether transfer quarterback Chandler Mendoza can successfully guide the offense into its next chapter. The conversation includes a look at one of the conference's most intriguing running back tandems, key transfer additions on offense, and how new offensive coordinator George Godsey may shape the identity of the unit moving forward. The discussion then shifts to the defensive side of the ball, where Georgia Tech is looking to address several issues that limited the team's ceiling a season ago. The hosts analyze the hiring of defensive coordinator Jason Seymour, the importance of improving the pass rush and turnover production, and the impact of the program's recruiting and transfer portal additions. The episode concludes with a game-by-game breakdown of Georgia Tech's 2026 schedule, predictions for the season, and a conversation about Brent Key's contract incentives and the realities of building a consistent winner in today's ACC.
