Dark Origins: The Amityville Horror | The Murders Before the Haunting

hat if the story of The Amityville Horror didn't actually begin with the haunting? In this episode of Creepy Confidential: Dark Origins, Noelle takes you inside the disturbing history of 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York—before the Lutz family ever moved in and before the house became one of America's most infamous haunted locations. On November 13, 1974, six members of the DeFeo family were murdered inside the home. Just over a year later, George and Kathy Lutz purchased the house, and their terrifying claims of supernatural activity would eventually become the bestselling 1977 book The Amityville Horror and the horror films that followed. But what really happened inside that house? We'll explore the DeFeo family murders, Robert DeFeo Jr.'s conflicting stories and claims of hearing voices, the mysterious circumstances surrounding the crime, and the questions that still surround the murders. Then we'll follow the story to the Lutz family and the paranormal experiences they claimed began after moving into the infamous home. We'll also look at the investigations and claims involving Ed and Lorraine Warren and Hans Holzer, the controversy surrounding the Amityville story, and the possibility that the most frightening part of this legend may have happened long before anyone called the house haunted. Was 112 Ocean Avenue truly possessed? Or was something far more human responsible for the horror?Y ou decide. ⚠️ Spoiler Warning: This episode discusses the original The Amityville Horror and contains details about the DeFeo murders.
