    115. John McAfee Part 2 of 2

    Jamie and Kristy continue the John McAfee story after the 2012 murder of his neighbor Gregory Faull in Belize, where McAfee was a person of interest but never formally charged amid limited investigative resources.     112. Kay-Alana Turner

    Jamie and Kristy cover the case of 27-year-old Margaret “Kay Alana” Turner in Harris County, Texas. After COVID-related PTSD, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and recent medication changes, Kay Alana appeared disoriented and sleep-deprived, sent concerning messages, and drove around Texas seeking places to sleep. In Tomball, residents called law enforcement after she was found in a driveway; body cam footage shows a chaotic encounter where she fled, crashed through fences, and ran into dense woods, while deputies made derogatory comments and pursued charges. Her family tried to file a missing person report but were told she was a fugitive, which limited search resources. On April 19, 2024, remains were found about 900 feet from where her car was last seen and were confirmed as Kay Alana on April 24, 2024; the medical examiner found no foul play and no official cause of death. The Chief explains why claims about “people from Detroit,” a homeless man’s prediction, and theories that Kurt was dragged from the party house could not be validated, noting key witnesses and polygraphs supported the account that Kurt and Sam left the house and Sam later returned for his coat. He addresses how Kurt’s family could have searched the ravine yet missed the body due to distance from the path and high weeds. The Chief critiques the 1981 autopsy’s vague cause of death, discusses reviewing it with a modern medical examiner, and explains why exhumation likely wouldn’t yield new evidence. His opinion is that Kurt likely was not murdered, suggesting intoxication, exposure/hypothermia, or an unknown medical issue as possibilities. Majoy explains how the case was reopened years later after a box of records was found during a station move, leading to a partnership with Tiffin University, a tip line, and Crime Stoppers involvement. He critiques the original 1981 investigation as incomplete and discusses modern investigative practices that weren’t used then.     109. Joann Matouk Romain Part 2 of 2

    On this week's episode of Speculating Wildly About Crime, Jamie and Kristy conclude their two-part investigation into the mysterious death of Joann Romain Matouk. In this episode, they will discuss the discovery of her body 70 days after she disappeared from outside St. Paul Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. They also explore the troubling questions surrounding the official ruling of suicide, including the condition of Joann's clothing and boots after being found nearly 35 miles away on the Canadian side of the Detroit River. They will then get into some very interesting and conflicting autopsy opinions, as well as evidence that was never tested or was discarded. And of course, will discuss the family's long-running fight to have the investigation reopened. Later on in the episode, potential suspects are discussed along with the theories that continue to fuel debate more than a decade later. While Joann's death remains officially classified as a suicide, her family continues to maintain that she was the victim of homicide and has spent years seeking answers they believe have never been fully investigated.
