Ep. 248: The Quiet Evolution of Midlife Women

Send us Fan Mail Midlife doesn't usually change women loudly. It changes them quietly. One responsibility at a time. One heartbreak. One season of survival. One adjustment. One disappointment. One sacrifice. And then one day you look up and realize… Somewhere along the way, you became someone. Today's episode is one I've been sitting with for a while. Because I think it touches something that a lot of women feel but haven't quite had the words for. And here's where I want to start. I think a lot of women hit midlife and assume they've lost themselves. Like somewhere between the kids and the career and the caregiving and the constant motion she just… disappeared. But honestly, I don't know that that's fully true anymore. I think life shaped them while they were busy living it. Motherhood shaped them. Marriage shaped them. Burnout shaped them. Grief shaped them. Pressure shaped them. Responsibility shaped them. And the goal now isn't necessarily to go backward and rediscover some younger version of yourself. The goal is to become conscious of who you've become. Because here's what I see all the time with the women I coach: they're not lost. They're operating on autopilot. Running the show from old expectations, old identities, and old coping mechanisms that don't fit who they are anymore. The quiet evolution of midlife women is what we’re talking about in this conversation. We’ll cover what it is, why it happens, and most importantly, what you do with it. Let's get into it. Ep. 247: Stress & Anxiety: The Background Noise You Can't Shut Off

Send us Fan Mail You know that feeling when your body is technically sitting still… But internally you feel braced for impact all day long? Like your brain never fully powers down. You're driving carpool. Answering texts. Trying to remember what you forgot. Dinner's half planned. Your hormones are doing whatever they want. Someone needs something from you every five minutes. And underneath all of it? There's this low hum. This constant internal static. And I think a lot of midlife women secretly believe: "What is wrong with me? Why can't I handle life anymore the way I used to?" But here's the truth: It's not a volume knob you broke. Your nervous system was never meant to carry this much for this long. Years of mental load. Overfunctioning. Emotional labor. Decision fatigue. People needing you constantly while you slowly disappear inside your own life. That catches up eventually. And if you've been feeling mentally loud lately… if your brain cannotexhale… if you are exhausted in a way that sleep doesn't even fix… This episode is for you. Ep. 246: Your Clutter Isn't Laziness. It's Guilt and Grief.

Send us Fan Mail On one of my Instagram Reels this weekend, I asked one question. Is your clutter driven more by guilt… or grief? That's it. One question. And the responses were surprising, but honestly not really all that surprising either.  I thought maybe I'd get a few votes, a handful of "oh, guilty!" responses. What I actually got was women pouring their hearts out in some DMs to me… Women started sharing about their kids' artwork still stuffed in bins from ten years ago. Storage units full of stuff they haven't looked at in years but can't bring themselves to sort through. Clothes that don't fit anymore…or fit just fine, but belong to a version of themselves they're not sure they recognize. Boxes from parents who passed away. Boxes from marriages that ended. Unfinished craft projects. Half-used planners. Empty bedrooms with the door left cracked because closing it fully feels like too much. Piles they avoid looking at entirely. And what became very clear, very quickly, was this: Your clutter isn't laziness. A lot of it is emotional survival. Because midlife women aren't just managing homes and possibly work expectations. They're managing identities. Memories. Pressure. Loss. Expectations. And enough emotional weight to sink a ship…usually with little support and no pause button. And eventually all of that emotional weight starts showing up physically. Midlife mess isn't random. It's a message. Let’s talk about it! Ep. 245: Emotional Clutter: How to Actually Start Clearing It.

Send us Fan Mail If you've been with me through this entire series if you've listened to all three of these episodes where we’ve talked about emotional clutter, you have done something that a lot of women never do. You've looked. You've sat with the uncomfortable truth that the heaviness you've been feeling has a name. That the reactions that confused you have an explanation. That the exhaustion, the numbness, the patterns you couldn't break…none of that was a character flaw.  It was a backlog. A real one.  Built over real years of real life in a season that didn't leave much room for you. And now you're here. At the episode where we actually do something about it. And I want to say something before we go any further, because I think it needs to be said: You don't have to clear the backlog all at once. That is not what this is. This is not a dramatic overhaul. This is not a weekend retreat or a complete life restructuring or a process that requires everything to stop so you can finally deal with it all. This is smaller than that. Quieter than that. More ordinary than that. And that is actually good news. Because the ordinary is where you live. And the ordinary is where this work gets done. Let's get into it. Check out the other Emotional Clutter Series Here: Episode 1 of 4: Why You Feel So Heavy When Nothing is Obviously Wrong Episode 2 of 4: The Dish on the Counter That Made You Snap Episode 3 of 4: You're not feeling it- You're carrying it. Ep. 244: I Don't Even Know How I Got Here: 10 Hard Truths About Midlife No One Prepares You For

Send us Fan Mail Have you ever looked at your life and thought… How did I get here? Not in a dramatic way. Not like everything's on fire. Not like you're standing in the rubble of something that completely fell apart. But just this quiet, unsettling feeling of… This isn't what I thought it would feel like. Like somewhere between the school pickups and the grocery runs and the calendar management and the "did you eat?" and the work deadlines and the trying to keep everyone's life from falling apart…somewhere in the middle of all of that you looked up. And you didn't fully recognize the life you were standing in. You didn't plan for this. You didn't sit down one day and choose this version of your life. You drifted into it. One responsibility at a time. One "I'll deal with that later" at a time. One busy season that bled into another busy season that you kept telling yourself was temporary. And now here you are. And parts of your life look good from the outside. They really do. The house is standing. The kids are fed. You're showing up. You're doing the thing. If someone looked at your life from the outside, they'd probably say you have it together. But you don't fully feel like yourself anymore. Let’s dig into this today! Ep. 243: Emotional Clutter: You're not feeling it- You're carrying it.

Send us Fan Mail I want to start with a question that might sound simple, but I promise you it isn't. Do you know what you're feeling right now? Not what you're thinking. Not what's on your to-do list or what you're worried about or what needs to happen before the end of the day. What you're actually feeling. In your body. Underneath the noise. Take a second with that. Because for a lot of women…especially women in this season of life, the honest answer is some version of: I don't know. Or: tired. Or: fine, I guess. Or: I don't really have time to think about that. And here's what I want you to notice about those answers. They're not feelings. Tired is a physical state. Fine is a non-answer. I don't know and I don't have time are deflections. Not because you're being dishonest, but because somewhere along the way, you lost the habit of actually checking in with yourself. Of actually asking the question and waiting for the real answer. And that loss…that disconnection from your own emotional experience is exactly what we're talking about today. Because there is a difference between feeling an emotion and carrying one. And most midlife women are doing a lot more carrying than feeling. Ep. 241: Emotional Clutter: The Dish on the Counter That Made You Snap

Send us Fan Mail I want to paint a picture for you. It's a Tuesday. Or a Thursday. Or honestly any day of the week…because the day doesn't really matter. What matters is that it has been a lot. The mental load has been running since before you opened your eyes. You've handled seventeen things before noon, most of which were invisible to everyone around you. You're behind on something. You're worried about something else. You're carrying a conversation from yesterday that didn't go the way you hoped and a conversation from next week that you're already dreading. And then someone…your kid, your husband, someone you love does something small. Leaves a dish on the counter. Asks you a question you've answered a hundred times. Forgets something you mentioned. Says something in a tone that lands wrong. Does the thing they always do that you've asked them not to do. And something in you just... snaps. Not a little irritated. Not mildly frustrated. Snaps. The reaction is bigger than the moment. You can feel it even as it's happening: this is too much, this is disproportionate, this is not actually about the dish, and you cannot stop it. And then it passes. And the shame arrives. Sound familiar? Let’s talk about what’s really happening here.  Resources mentioned in this episode:  This is Why Midlife Is So Much Harder Than You Expected Get some powerful mantras to inspire, encourage, and life you up when you need as little something intentional to focus on.  We have a beautiful pdf download of the 6 Mantras For Intentional Moms you can keep or print.
