Mom2Mom MENTORING - Work/Life Harmony, Soul-Care, Kingdom Minded Moms

Misty Hughes | Speaker, Workshop Facilitator, Gratitude Guide, Celebration Coach, Mom Mentor

🤷🏻‍♀️ Do you wonder where the mystical land of work/life balance is? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️Are you searching, striving, or longing to discover a better way to lead yourself and your family? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️Is your soul weary and often overextended and overwhelmed? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️Do you want to build your business or career but are afraid of letting one of those spinning plates drop? ✝ ✝ Are you looking for older women of faith who can share their nuggets of wisdom and offer you the encouragement you need to be a better you? Well, Marvelous Mom and Magnificant Mom-To-Be, , I’m Misty Hughes, I have been in that place. I spent countless years searching, weeping, and whining to God about the lack of older women who might serve as a mentor for me. I was a young mom, raising 4 kids, divorced, without a clue as to how to live in Christ, manage my home, provide for the family, love my kids, and care for myself. I looked around my church for a woman I could emulate. I longed for someone I could look to for wisdom. I ached for an older woman to encourage me. I wanted someone approachable, someone who had weathered the storms of life and was sailing on to her brighter future. I looked for a ✝ Faith Filled woman ✝ A woman who spoke words of life to others ✝ A leader in the church or community ✝ A woman who was actively reaching out, offering hospitality to younger women ✝ A mom who was encouraging others in godliness ✝ An overcomer ✝ A confident woman ✝ A woman who loved her family well + A woman who worked outside of the home or had her own business I read in my Bible about this Titus 2 older woman; I had images of what that should look like in my life. But I found no one. After a few years of grumbling and complaining, and maybe even a temper tantrum or two, I began to ask God to make me the solution to the problem. At the age of 36, newly divorced and a hot mess, I began inviting college girls to coffee, lunch, or to our home for dinner. My personal journey of being a mentor had begun. Over the years, I have mentored, coached, and taught countless women. I have also had the privilege of meeting many exceptional women who walk in wisdom, insight, and integrity. (The mentors we all long for.) Each week, I invite you to PRESS PAUSE on the busy demands of life, sit around the table with some of the most amazing women you will ever meet, glean nuggets of wisdom from these expert moms, and find answers to the questions your heart is searching for. Have you met her yet?

Have you met her yet? The real you — not the one who shows up capable and composed, not the one who knows exactly what to say in every room — but the one underneath all of that. If that question makes you go quiet, this episode is for you. 🌿   In this deeply personal episode, Misty shares the story of the first time she asked God to show her herself — and what He showed her wasn’t pretty. 🪨 It was a burnt stub. Charcoal black. Not completely dead, but barely alive. And in that image, God didn’t give her a verdict. He gave her an invitation. He was saying: "I see what you’ve been through. I see what’s left. And I’m not done." Years later, the ashes became literal when her marriage ended and she found herself alone, rebuilding — and it was in that desert season, deep in the Song of Solomon, that God kept meeting her to speak tenderly, not to shame her but to show her she was still His. Still lovely. 🤍   This episode explores the difference between knowing yourself through other people’s eyes — through what you do and how you perform — and knowing yourself through holy collaboration with your Creator. Misty pushes back on the belief that self-knowledge is self-indulgent, grounding it in Psalm 139:23–24 where David himself prayed: Search me, God, and know my heart. She walks through three practical postures for beginning to know yourself: 1️⃣ solitude as the container, 2️⃣ the difference between managing emotions and actually feeling them (including a free feelings wheel resource), and 3️⃣ the desert season as gift rather than punishment. 🌼   She brings it all home to the two scriptures that anchor the entire Known series: Isaiah 61:3 — a crown of beauty instead of ashes, and oaks of righteousness for the display of His splendor — and Song of Solomon 1:5 — I am dark but lovely. Not dark therefore unlovable. Not lovely once it’s cleaned up. Dark and lovely, both at once. God called her lovely in the dark. He’s calling you lovely too. ✨   This is the final episode in the Known series (Episodes 103, 104, and 105). The Woman Nobody Sees

Surrounded by people but unknown to yourself? This episode names the quiet ache — and points you back to the One who has always seen you. 🌳 You can be surrounded by people who love you — and still be profoundly unknown. Not because anyone has failed you, but because somewhere in the accumulation of roles you carry, the woman underneath them got quiet. Got small. Got lost in plain sight.   If that lands somewhere tender today, this episode is for you. 🧑‍👧   Misty shares two deeply personal stories — one from the stage of a thriving nonprofit where hundreds of women felt they knew her, and one from a marriage season where life finally slowed down enough for her to notice the hole in her soul. Both stories circle back to one quiet, aching truth: public intimacy and personal intimacy are not the same thing. The stage is a beautiful place to give. It is not always a safe place to receive.   In this episode you’ll explore the difference between being known FOR something — your reputation, your role, your resume — and being truly KNOWN. Your interior. Your fears, your failures, your real questions at 2 AM.   Misty walks through a practical friendship audit with three circles (Celebration, Community, and Core) and the brave questions she asked God when her core circle came up empty. 💛   And then she brings it all home to the only foundation that makes the rest possible: before there was a stage, a role, a title, or a calling — you were searched and you were known. Psalm 139:1 isn’t just a comfort verse. It’s the ground you stand on. The Holy One, the Maker of heaven and earth, has made Himself familiar with all your ways. Not the polished ones. All of them. He searched you and He stayed. You are not the woman nobody sees. You are the woman the Creator of the universe sees so completely that He counts the hairs on your head, catches your tears, and calls you His. Everything else — every circle, every friendship, every brave act of letting someone in — flows downstream from that. ✨ 🔗‍️ LINKS MENTIONED IN THE EPISODE BECOMING Group Coaching Cohort https://mistyhughes.com/cohort Christian Women in Business & Ministry Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/christianmomsinbusinessandministry   𓆩♡𓆪 Flourish In Friendship Podcast Series Ep 59: https://mistyhughes.com/how-to-grow-longtime-friendships-that-last/ Ep 60: https://mistyhughes.com/rediscovering-womens-friendships-in-a-disconnected-world/ Ep 61: https://mistyhughes.com/ep-61-lonely-but-not-alone-in-building-christ-centered-friendships-that-last/ Ep 62: https://mistyhughes.com/ep-62-moms-can-find-their-way-through-loneliness-by-understanding-this/ Ep 64: https://mistyhughes.com/ep-64-how-to-cultivate-authentic-friendships-even-when-it-feels-risky/ Flourish In Friendship FREE Friendship Circle Mapping Guide & MORE:  https://mistyhughes.com/resources     ☎️ Book a complimentary discovery call: https://calendly.com/mistyhughes/call-with-misty 💼 1:1 Private Coaching: https://mistyhughes.com/coaching 🌱 Free Rhythms of Renewal Mini-Guide: https://mistyhughes.myflodesk.com/discoverrhythms 📞 Got a Mom2Mom Question? Still Waiting? Give it 20 Years, Momma

Still waiting on a God-given dream? This episode names the ache—and shows you why the wait is not the waste. 🌳 Have you quietly set aside a dream you used to talk about? A calling, a ministry, a book, a marriage that feels like partnership, or simply the longing to finally feel at home in your own story? Friend, this episode is for you.   In this episode, Misty gets deeply personal about the years she spent in the gap—watching God seem to fulfill everyone else’s dreams while she was left holding the bag after her marriage ended. Out of that pit came one of the most life-changing challenges she’s ever received: Give it twenty years. Not as a life sentence, but as an act of mercy—God’s honest invitation into the slow, sacred work of becoming.   Through the stories of Sarah, David, Noah, and Joseph—whose waits stretched from 13 to 75 years—Misty shows us that the gap between God’s promise and its fulfillment has always been long, and always been intentional. Drawing from Isaiah 61:3 and the image of the oak tree (which takes 20–50 years to reach maturity), she makes the case that what looks like stalling is often deepening—root time, not wasted time.   Misty also draws a crucial distinction between delay and detour—and gives listeners a practical question that might just reframe everything: Has God ever told you this dream was canceled? Or have you just been waiting so long it started to feel that way?   If you’ve been quiet about a calling, wondering if you missed God, or exhausted by a season that won’t seem to move—this episode will meet you there. Grab your journal. Trusting God With What You Cannot Control with Debbie Simmons

Can you trust God with what you cannot control? Debbie Simmons shares hard-won wisdom on loving prodigals, grieving loss, and leading your home with peace.   What do you do when the thing you want most is completely outside your control? Whether it’s a child who is wandering, a loss that broke you open, or a home that feels like it’s running on fumes — today’s episode is for you.   Debbie Simmons, known as The Legacy Architect, is the founder and CEO of Anchor Point, a keynote speaker, leadership strategist, and author of The Heart of Legacy. She is also a mother of thirteen — four sons she held in her arms and rocked into eternity, and nine children she adopted in three sibling groups. Her story is one of the most profound testimonies of trust, redemption, and legacy you will ever hear.   In this conversation, ✦︎ Debbie and Misty talk about what it really means to love a prodigal — and why the best parents can still have one. ✦︎ Debbie shares hard-won wisdom on how to plant seeds and leave a bridge to Jesus, ✦︎ why rescuing your child can sometimes cost them the very thing they need most, ✦︎ and how she walked six years of loving a daughter on the streets before watching her reach three years of sobriety.   You will also learn Debbie’s 10-Minute Reset — a simple daily rhythm that helps you regulate before you react — and how to identify your 🦈  “shark waters” 🦈 before they pull you under. The practical wisdom in this episode is the kind that comes from real life, not a textbook.   Debbie’s free gift for listeners: The Heart of Legacy (just pay shipping) — theheartoflegacy.com   ✨ CONNECT WITH MISTY Resources, community, and next steps — everything you need is right here. 🌐 Website https://mistyhughes.com/ 👥 Facebook Community — Christian Women in Business & Ministry https://www.facebook.com/groups/christianmomsinbusinessandministry 📸 Instagram https://www.instagram.com/the_mistyhughes 🌱 BECOMING Cohort Discover the God-given freedom to live from your God-given identity, not your to-do list. It's Not Guilt, It's Grief | Mental Health, Motherhood, & Faith with Kelly Jackson

What does it look like to parent a child with a mental illness — and keep your faith intact? Kelly Jackson has lived it. This conversation is for you. There are moms sitting in church pews right now who are exhausted, confused, and quietly wondering if they're the only ones. Their child is struggling — with moods, behaviors, diagnoses they didn't see coming — and no one is talking about it. This episode is for them and for those who know someone who has mental health concerns. Kelly Jackson is the Executive Director of NAMI Johnson County and a mom who has walked one of the harder roads in parenting: a husband who experienced a suicide attempt, a daughter who began hearing voices at eleven, and the long, winding journey of learning to love her family well in the middle of it all. She doesn't speak from theory. She speaks from Tuesday mornings and medication trials and moments of grace. Together, Misty and Kelly talk through ✦ what mental health conditions actually are (and why "one in five" is a number every mom needs to sit with), ✦ how to find the right therapist for your child, ✦ what guilt and grief look like from the inside, and ✦ why Kelly believes the church has more room to grow in this conversation. Kelly also shares the one daily rhythm that has kept her anchored through all of it — and it's simpler than you might think. This isn't a heavy, clinical episode. It's a conversation between two women who love Jesus and love moms, trying to make sure no one has to figure this out alone. Kelly's honesty will meet you wherever you are — whether you're navigating a fresh diagnosis, wondering if what you're seeing warrants concern, or just trying to understand someone you love.   NOTE: This podcast is for educational and encouragement purposes only and does not constitute professional counseling, therapy, or medical advice. I Am The Words You Are The Tune

One hundred episodes of real conversations for real women — and for this one, I brought someone new into the studio. My husband Craig. The first man to ever sit across from me on Mom~2~Mom Mentoring. Craig and I are wired completely differently. 👀 I see the world through rose-colored glasses full of sparkle and shine. He sees it through spreadsheets.   📣 I process everything out loud. He goes quiet and sits with it for days.   💃🏻 I live out loud. He surrounds himself with a few close friends and lets the world carry on without him.   And somewhere in the middle of all that difference — we have built something that is genuinely life-giving for both of us. Not because we became the same. But because we kept choosing each other anyway. In this episode, we get honest about what connection actually is — and what it isn't. We talk about ➤ core fears, ➤ the cycle that trips most couples up, ➤ what safety has to do with reconnection, ➤ ➤ ➤ and what Craig's spontaneous Neil Diamond reference in the middle of our conversation taught me all over again about why we work. This isn't a perfect marriage episode. There's no formula here. Just two people, six years in, still learning — and still choosing.   What you'll take away: • Why connection is not the same as proximity — and how to feel the difference • The core fear cycle that trips up most couples (and how to interrupt it) • What safety has to do with reconnection — and why God is the safest place first • What it looks like when the dreamer and the realist stop defending their own plots and tend the garden together   LINKS MENTIONED IN THE EPISODE Notice, Name, Feel, & Free Your Emotions - A FREE RESOURCE https://mistyhughes.myflodesk.com/feelings   Contact Misty & Craig For Symbis (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) https://mistyhughes.com/inquire

The Calling Shifts The Purpose Holds for Christian Moms

Your calling is supposed to shift. Your purpose never does. Misty shares the testimony that will free the Christian mom striving in the wrong season. Have you ever felt on fire for God — heart so full it needed somewhere to go — and then had Him redirect that fire somewhere you weren’t expecting? Somewhere smaller, quieter, and far less visible than you had in mind?   In episode 99 of Mom2Mom Mentoring, I get honest about one of the most significant redirects of my life. In the mid-nineties, in the middle of a genuine community revival, I experienced an awakening to the love of God that lit me on fire. I was wired to build, to connect, to pour — and I was ready. But God’s answer to my fire wasn’t a platform. It was a kitchen table and four kids.   What followed was decades of faithfulness in unsexy, unglamorous, often invisible assignments — a homeschool co-op, teenagers at church, a children’s ministry, people always around the table. And when the bottom fell out in 1998, and my marriage ended, I had to find her footing all over again. It was in that broken season that God gave me the longer vision: give it twenty years.   This episode is for the Christian mom who can’t see evidence that her faithfulness is doing anything. The one asking God to show her He’s working — and almost missing the answer because it comes in the form of a little boy quietly singing a worship song while playing with his toy cars on the floor.   In this episode: The difference between purpose (your why) and calling (your how) — and why your calling is supposed to keep shifting Why staying faithful in a hard, slow season costs something real — and why that’s worth naming The exponential math God showed Misty about faithfulness in her own home What Isaiah 61:3 says about oaks of righteousness — and why some plantings take decades The harvest belongs to God, not to you — and why that is the most freeing truth you’ll ever stand on A direct invitation to the BECOMING Cohort for women ready to stop striving and start living from purpose   Key Scripture Jeremiah 20:9 — His word like fire shut up in my bones Isaiah 55:8–9 — My thoughts are not your thoughts Isaiah 61:3 — Oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord 1 Corinthians 3:6–7 — I planted, Apollos watered, God made it grow Philippians 1:6 — He who began a good work will complete it   Free Resource Grab the Rhythms of Renewal Mini-Guide — a free workbook walking you through rest, restoration, and relationship, with a Discovery Bible Study through Matthew 11:28–30. You Were Called Before You Were Busy

You feel a stirring you can’t name — and the harder you chase it, the more exhausted you become. Misty Hughes unpacks the difference between purpose and calling, and why you were called before you were busy. Have you ever been asked what you feel called to — and frozen? Because...you have no idea how to answer that question, and the very question itself feels weighty, and the last thing you need is more weight to carry. In this episode of Mom2Mom Mentoring, Misty Hughes gets honest about a season when she had four kids, a baby on her hip, and a persistent yearning she couldn’t put language to. She was homeschooling, working, serving — and still felt like the real calling was somewhere out there, just beyond her reach. Like God was holding this carrot in front of me, asking me to chase after something that I was too tired to run after (but was desperate to please God so I kept chasing)   What she discovered changed the way she understood everything — purpose, calling, and what it actually means to be a woman who feels stirred for more.   In this episode you’ll hear: Why purpose-chasing is one of the top drivers of burnout in high-achieving Christian women The powerful distinction between purpose (your identity in Christ) and calling (your seasonal assignment) What Ephesians 2:10, Jeremiah 29:11, and Jeremiah 1:5 reveal about the works already prepared for you Why the mom in the trenches with toddlers is not on the sidelines — and why the woman with a stirring doesn’t need to chase it down How to stop striving and start walking with the One who holds your calling   This is episode 98 — just two away from 100. And something is coming for that milestone you won’t want to miss.   Grab the free Rhythms of Renewal Mini-Guide at mistyhughes.com — which includes a Discovery Bible Study through Matthew 11:28–30 for the tired, searching, capable woman who is ready for a different way of living.
