I started listening on YouTube when I was looking for deep dives on “The Alter for the Dead” from Bly Manor. Ended up staying to listen through all of Hill House and the remainder of Bly Manor and Fall of the House of Usher, all of which I’d binged the past few weeks. I like deep dives and appreciate the extra attention to discussions on mental health, book references Easter eggs and the like.
I just finished Midnight Mass as intended by the show, where I watch a single episode for the first time then listen to the commentary. This was a great way to supplement the episodes and space them out, since I would finish a single episode and then get away from my TV to listen to the podcast while I cleaned or drove or relaxed. It’s awesome to have sometime I look forward to so much that I’m not in the Netflix trap of “Next Episode” or “Are you still watching?”.
I’m a massive King fan as well. I am thrilled to know there’s another deep dive podcast I can get into with these creators once I’m caught up on MF.
Side note: some of the negative reviews on this app are insane.
One about spending 10 hours on a 2 hour film? Insane. That’s what discussion is about.
Another one about “one-ers and blocking and boring film stuff.” Also insane. Yes these guys talk about the technical filming tricks and SKILLS we see in these shows. And even if I didn’t care a lick about those topics I’d stay for the deep discussion and human touch these men bring to the table to enhance our understanding of the media we consume. However, as someone who knew literally ZERO about film techniques coming into this podcast, I’m grateful for these drop ins. Scott lights up like a little kid when he talks about director choices, and his passion has brought a new appreciation to this art.
I also think Matt was a therapist in a past life, or is well therapied himself.
Thank you Matt and Scott.
