    The Two-Step Solution for Moving Beyond Health Anxiety (That No-One Talks About!)

    Get In Touch! In this episode, I talk about something that was a huge turning point in my own recovery from health anxiety: understanding that you can’t calm the mind without also calming the body. For years I thought the solution was purely mindset work. I tried to challenge my thoughts, question the worst-case scenarios, and logic my way out of the fear. Sometimes it helped briefly, but the anxiety always came back. What I didn’t realise at the time was that health anxiety isn’t just a thinking problem .. it’s also a nervous system problem. When your nervous system becomes sensitised, it starts reacting to normal sensations as if they are dangerous. Fearful thoughts trigger stress hormones, which create very real physical sensations in the body. Those sensations then fuel more catastrophic thinking, and before you know it you’re stuck in a loop where the mind and body are constantly reinforcing each other. In this episode, I explain why so many people get stuck trying to recover. Some people focus only on thought-based approaches like CBT and reframing, while others focus only on body-based practices such as breathing exercises, meditation, yoga, or walking. The reality is that recovery usually requires working with both. I share how learning to signal safety to my nervous system ... through slow breathing, longer exhales, grounding, gentle movement, and even posture ... helped calm my body’s stress response. At the same time, I had to learn to recognise when my mind was scanning for danger, gently reframe those thoughts, and bring my attention back to the present moment. Recovery isn’t about eliminating every symptom or never feeling anxious again. It’s about calming the reactive system so that your mind and body stop interpreting normal sensations as threats. I also talk about the importance of consistency, accountability, and why having support during the recovery process can make such a difference.     Embracing the Present: Shifting Away from Overthinking

    Get In Touch! In this episode, I explain why overthinking becomes so chronic for people with health anxiety ... and more importantly, how it can be unlearned. I walk you through a series of gentle, practical tools I use both personally and with my clients. These include learning how to neutrally label anxious thoughts instead of engaging with them, anchoring back into the present moment when the mind starts racing, and speaking directly to the nervous system to create a sense of safety rather than urgency. I also talk about why consistency matters so much in recovery ...not perfection, not forcing calm, but showing up again and again with the same supportive responses. This is the foundation of lasting change. Throughout the episode, I share insights from my Trust & Thrive method and explain how shifting the relationship you have with your thoughts and body can completely change your experience of health anxiety over time. Katie shares her journey from working as a flight attendant to training as a psychotherapist, and what led her to take therapy out of the traditional room and into nature. We talk about why working outdoors can feel so much less intense than sitting face-to-face in a therapy setting, and how walking side-by-side in nature can naturally reduce pressure, build trust, and support nervous system regulation. We explore the mental health benefits of movement, fresh air, and being away from distractions, and how nature can create a sense of safety and ease that’s especially helpful for anxiety. Katie also shares practical ways to bring more nature into your daily routine,  even if getting outdoors feels difficult or isn’t always possible.     Google, Panic, Repeat: Rob Prime's Journey Beyond Health Anxiety

    Get In Touch! In this episode of Healing Beyond Health Anxiety, I’m joined by Robert Prime, a former health anxiety sufferer and the author of Google Panic Repeat. Rob shares his personal journey with health anxiety and how it slowly crept into his life without him fully realising what was happening. What started quietly soon began to consume his day-to-day existence, with constant symptom scanning, obsessive Googling, and an endless need for reassurance. He speaks honestly about how deep it went, including how he managed to hide just how much he was struggling from most people around him,  even those closest to him. From the outside, life looked normal, but internally, he was fighting a relentless battle. Rob talks us through the turning point in his recovery,  not a sudden breakthrough, but a gradual shift. He explains how learning to reprogram his anxiety responses and focusing on little, consistent progress rather than a quick fix changed everything. We also discuss the importance of compassionate, understanding support from loved ones, and Rob shares practical insights for anyone currently stuck in the cycle of health anxiety. A key part of his recovery was rebuilding trust in his body through physical exercise, and he reflects on how movement helped him reconnect with his body in a safe, empowering way. We end the episode on a truly hopeful note, with Rob sharing that he is now living a relatively health-anxiety-free life and how he’s dedicated to helping others through his writing and lived experience.     A Calmer Christmas: Managing Health Anxiety During the Holidays

In this episode of Healing Beyond Health Anxiety, I’m diving into something that feels especially loud this time of year ... the pressure of Christmas when you live with health anxiety. I open up about the years I genuinely lost to fear at Christmas… those days where I was physically there but mentally trapped in symptoms, what-ifs, and body checking. If you’ve ever felt that knot in your stomach on a day that’s “supposed” to be magical, you are absolutely not alone. I talk through the unique challenges the holidays bring ... the overwhelm, the expectation for everything to be perfect, and yes… the elephant in the room: doctors’ surgeries running on reduced hours, which can crank health anxiety up to a whole new level. Bryan's story is one of battling health anxiety and  PTSD.  He emphasises the importance of talking about mental health and staying active as coping mechanisms.
