Honestly, I couldn’t even finish this episode, and that says a lot.
The hosts came across as incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful, especially considering they were discussing an abduction. There was joking, laughing, and commentary questioning why the victim was abducted and why they weren’t able to get away. I don’t understand how you can discuss someone’s trauma and treat it like something to laugh about or pick apart from the comfort of your own perspective.
On top of that, it took an absurd amount of time to get to the actual topic of the episode. More than half of the episode was spent rambling about completely unrelated things. And once they finally started telling the story, they constantly got distracted, went off on tangents, laughed, and lost focus.
I actually skipped ahead because I wanted to hear the case itself, but I couldn’t even make it ten minutes into the story before I gave up.
There’s nothing wrong with having personalities on a podcast or occasionally making a lighthearted comment, but true crime requires a certain level of awareness and respect. These are real people whose lives have been affected by horrific events. Their experiences are not entertainment to joke about, and victims should not be questioned or blamed for what happened to them.
If I’m listening to a true crime podcast, I expect the hosts to actually focus on the case and treat the subject matter with the seriousness it deserves. This episode did neither. It was disrespectful, unfocused, and difficult to listen to.
Definitely not a podcast I’ll be returning to.
