💣 Truth Bomb: Survival With Better Branding

People praise high-functioning trauma all the time. You're so strong. You're so resilient. You're so good under pressure. But sometimes what looks like strength from the outside is actually survival mode with better branding. In this Truth Bomb, Dana breaks down why being productive, successful, dependable, and capable doesn't necessarily mean your nervous system is healthy. When slowing down hasn't historically felt safe, your body learns a different strategy: Keep going. Keep performing. Keep producing. And you can get really damn good at it. The problem? Everyone else sees the success while your nervous system quietly absorbs the cost. Episode 11: Healing After Loss with Dorothy Cascerceri Simone

What happens when life keeps handing you losses you never imagined you'd have to survive? In this deeply personal episode of The Truth About Healing, Dana sits down with Dorothy Cascerceri Simone, host and executive producer of That Greenwich Life, to talk about pregnancy loss, infertility, IVF, PTSD, EMDR therapy, and what it actually took to find herself again after years of trauma. Dorothy shares the heartbreaking experience of learning at her 20-week anatomy scan that her baby had a severe heart condition, ultimately leading to a termination for medical reasons (TFMR). What followed wasn't one isolated trauma—it was years of pregnancy loss, unsuccessful fertility treatments, medical procedures, family-of-origin wounds, relationship stress, and moments when Dorothy barely recognized the person she had become. But this isn't only a story about loss. It's a story about what happened when Dorothy stopped trying to control an uncontrollable outcome and started healing the person underneath all that survival. Through EMDR therapy, grief work, nervous system regulation, boundaries, connection, and learning to tolerate the uncomfortable, Dorothy began rebuilding her relationship with herself. And eventually, she discovered something bigger than the outcome she'd been desperately chasing: Peace. The journey ultimately wasn't just about healing from pregnancy loss. It became about healing an entire lifetime of anxiety, relational wounds, people-pleasing, and patterns that had kept her nervous system in survival mode. As Dorothy describes it, she didn't become a completely different person. She found her way back to herself About Dorothy Cascesarie Simone Dorothy Cascesarie Simone is the host and executive producer of That Greenwich Life, an event emcee and live auctioneer, luxury travel writer, and digital content creator. 💣 Truth Bomb: Functioning Isn’t Healing

💣 Truth Bomb: Functioning Isn’t Healing You go to work. You pay your bills. You take care of your family. You show up for everyone who needs you. So you must be okay… right? Not necessarily. In this Truth Bomb, Dana breaks down the difference between functioning and actually healing. Your nervous system can stay stuck in survival mode for years while you continue to look completely capable on the outside. You can be productive, successful, responsible, and dependable—and still be living with chronic hypervigilance, emotional shutdown, and tension that you've experienced for so long it simply feels "normal." This can be especially common for first responders and others in high-stress professions, where pushing through, staying alert, and compartmentalizing emotions can become part of everyday life. But functioning isn't proof that your nervous system is okay. And eventually, your body may stop asking politely for your attention and start demanding it. Healing isn't about proving how much pressure you can carry. It's about creating enough safety in your body that you no longer have to live in survival mode just to get through your life. You deserve more than functioning. Episode 10: Beyond the Badge with Nick Ricciotti (Part 2)

What keeps first responders healthy, not just on the job, but for life? In Part 2 of Dana's conversation with licensed associate counselor, former law enforcement officer, and Vice President of Reps For Responders, Nick Ricciotti, the focus shifts from recovery to resilience. Nick shares how Reps For Responders is changing the conversation around first responder mental health by creating a community built on connection, fitness, education, and accountability. Together, Dana and Nick explore why burnout, addiction, and suicide prevention require more than awareness, they require practical tools, supportive relationships, and a nervous system that knows how to recover from chronic stress. They also dive into why movement is medicine, how identity extends far beyond a career, and why taking care of yourself isn't selfish, it's one of the most selfless things you can do for the people who depend on you. One of the biggest takeaways from this conversation: You are more than your job. Whether you're a first responder, healthcare professional, therapist, or parent, your career should be part of your identity, not your entire identity. Healing begins when you create space for connection, purpose, movement, and a life outside of work. 📍 Follow Nick: Instagram: @nick_rfr4 📍 Follow Reps For Responders: Instagram: @repsforresponders 🌐 Learn more: www.repsforresponders.org Work With Peaceful Living Mental Health CounselingWhether you're struggling with anxiety, trauma, burnout, addiction, relationship challenges, or feeling stuck in survival mode, our team is here to help. 📍 In-Person Therapy: Scarsdale, NY 💻 Virtual Therapy: Available for residents of NY, NJ, CT, FL & CO 📅 Learn more or schedule a consultation: www.peacefullivingmhc.com Additional Resources🧠 EMDR Resources for Clinicians & Clients www.danacarretta.com/shop 🛠️ Recommended Therapy Tools, Regulation Resources & EMDR Systems for Clinicians www.danacarretta.com/therapytools 🎁 Free Nervous System Resources www.danacarretta.com/free Loved This Episode?⭐ Follow The Truth About Healing for weekly conversations that make healing make sense. ⭐ Leave a review and share this episode with a first responder, healthcare worker, veteran, therapist, or anyone who needs the reminder that taking care of themselves isn't selfish. ⭐ Tag Dana (@the_emdr_coach) and Nick (@nick_rfr4) on Instagram and let us know your biggest takeaway. 💣 Truth Bomb: Addiction Needs Safety

Most people think addiction is a lack of willpower or discipline. The truth? Addiction often begins as your nervous system's attempt to survive. In this Truth Bomb, Dana explains why addiction isn't simply about the substance—it's about what the substance does for your body. Whether it's alcohol, drugs, work, food, shopping, or social media, addictive behaviors often develop because they provide temporary relief from chronic stress, emotional pain, or a nervous system that's been stuck in survival mode for far too long. Especially in high-stress professions like law enforcement, healthcare, and first response, people are often taught to suppress emotions, push through pain, and keep going no matter what. But your nervous system will always find a way to regulate itself. The challenge is that what starts as a coping strategy can eventually become the very thing that keeps you stuck. Your body isn't working against you. It's been trying to protect you all along. Healing begins when we stop asking, "What's wrong with me?" and start asking, "What does my nervous system need to feel safe?" What happens when the career you've built your identity around suddenly disappears? In this deeply honest episode of The Truth About Healing, Dana sits down with licensed associate counselor, former law enforcement officer, and Vice President of Reps For Responders, Nicholas Ricciotti, to discuss addiction, recovery, trauma, first responder culture, and the power of rebuilding your life after rock bottom. Nick shares his personal story of entering law enforcement, becoming immersed in the culture of alcohol and substance use, losing his career after an addiction-related investigation, and ultimately finding healing through therapy, community, and recovery. Today, with more than five years of sobriety, Nick helps first responders, veterans, and others struggling with addiction understand that healing isn't about willpower, it's about connection, support, and learning how to regulate your nervous system without relying on substances.
