    Excuses, Excuses | Part 1

We said we weren't going to shame anybody this week, and then we spent an hour and a half taking apart every excuse we hear as coaches — including the ones we make ourselves. Both of us had a week completely outside our normal routine. One of us was in Florida with the family, the other spent days at the hospital while her son had surgery. So this wasn't theoretical. Five days, and one lift. Here's what we actually did with that. The list we work through in Part 1: - "I don't have time" — the 30 minutes of scrolling, and why meal prep does not have to mean seven ingredients - "I'm taking care of kids or aging parents" — the oxygen mask thing, said without the guilt - "I don't like vegetables" — you don't have to eat the whole rainbow - "I don't like eating my food cold" — and the frozen rice on the plane story - "My kids or my spouse won't eat that way" — cook once, split it - "I eat really clean and I still can't lose weight" — the olive oil, the ranch, the bites off your kid's plate, and the protein popcorn nobody asked for - "I don't want to be rude when I'm out" — you don't have to explain yourself to anybody - "Something unexpected came up" — what to do when the day is already gone - "I'm injured" — a restriction is not an excuse, and our most jacked client doesn't squat - "I'm too tired to work out" — energy feeds energy - "I was good all week, I deserve this weekend" — restriction, binge, Monday, repeat - "It must be my metabolism" — probably not, and here's what we check first We ran out of time, so the rest of the list is Part 2 next week. We also put each other on the spot at the end: the most outrageous excuse we've ever heard, and the excuse we personally used before we ever became coaches. New episodes every week. Natural Bodybuilding

Two natural competitors, two moms of four, on what the natural route actually costs — and why they'd still choose it. No judgment here for anyone's decision about their own body. This one's for the people doing it without anything, and for anyone trying to build muscle naturally who's wondering why it's so slow. WHAT WE GET INTO: • Why we stay natural: values, what our kids watch us do, and wanting to find out what we're capable of with no assistance • The diet pills and fat burners in college, the scary heart moment, and the decision that came out of it • Coaching athletes on PEDs: being upfront that we don't touch that side of the journey • Diuretics, and why a natural athlete never needs to step on stage dehydrated — you need water to look full • Genetics, the ceiling you can't train past, and the comparison trap with enhanced athletes on social media • Why we follow natural competitors instead — the ones that make you think "I could do that" • Pro cards as a natural: only a couple of routes in the IFBB, and playing the long chase • Building season reality: "fluffy", about a quarter pound of muscle a month, and recovering more slowly than an enhanced athlete • Injury recovery, peptides like BPC-157, and why naturals can't touch them if they want to stay testable • Mind-muscle connection, glutes vs quads, and why CrossFit athletes need to train differently for a different look • Cheating at natural shows, polygraphs, and the federations doing it right • How to handle a placing that doesn't reflect the work — "your self-worth is not one day of one judge's opinion" • Body dysmorphia, stage lean vs off-season, and the question we all ask: can I just stay here? • Bulking myths: you don't need to get fat to grow — building at maintenance is real • Why a natural prep may need 20 weeks, not 12 New episodes weekly — follow the show so you don't miss one. Fitness Through Parenthood

Would you be proud if your children grew up and treated themselves the way you treat yourself? EPISODE 16: FITNESS THROUGH PARENTHOOD STAGES FitFuel: Behind the Check-In · Hosted by Ashley Downes & Jordan Poteet Every stage of parenting is hard, and every stage quietly rewrites what "fitting in your training" looks like. We each have four kids, so between us we've lived it all: pregnancy, toddlers, elementary, middle school, high school and the empty nest. This episode is about how fitness survives real life at every one of them. WHAT WE GET INTO - Training through four pregnancies, and why recovery was completely different the time she kept lifting - The pregnancy rule that actually matters: "What's the best I can do today?" - Babies, toddlers, breastfeeding schedules, and why your support system is everything - You'd never leave the house without packing for your baby. Pack for yourself too. - Mom guilt, and the standard you're setting whether you mean to or not - How we talk about our bodies in front of our kids, and why "I'm getting strong" beats "I need to lose weight" - Elementary years: full calendars, lost family dinners and 5:30am Saturdays - Fitness as a habit, like going to the grocery store. Nobody is too busy to do something. - Treat your workout like a doctor's appointment. Don't miss your appointment with yourself. - Middle school travel teams, meal planning, and cold chicken with cauliflower rice because it fits - High school late nights, sleep, and splitting the load with your partner - Empty nesters: why it's harder to move when you don't have to, and what's changed in the last five years - The big one: you don't have to choose between being a good parent and taking care of yourself FOLLOW US Instagram: @fitfuelnutritionllc Instagram: @coachjordan_musclemommy #FitFuel #BehindTheCheckIn #FitnessPodcast #FitMom #ParentingAndFitness

    Ditch The Timeline

What if your biggest breakthrough isn't getting better at starting — but getting better at staying? EPISODE 15: DITCH THE TIMELINE FitFuel: Behind the Check-In · Hosted by Ashley Downes & Jordan Poteet Everyone wants the eight-week transformation. We spend this whole episode on why the timeline is the problem — and why the question you should be asking instead is "what happens if I don't quit?" Because it's not hard to start. It's easy to quit. The skill is staying. WHAT WE GET INTO: · Why an eight-week deadline feels comfortable, and what it actually costs you · "What happens if I don't quit? What would I look like a year from now?" · Realistic expectations: a pound a week of fat loss is excellent progress — and why five pounds a month is not "nothing" · Why muscle gain is a different game entirely, and the number on the scale isn't the scoreboard · "I'll start after this vacation / after the holidays" — the biggest lie you can tell yourself · Surviving real life: vacations, Thanksgiving, holidays, and the week of leftovers · The all-or-nothing trap, and why you never need to "start over on Monday" · Why the 12-week prep mentality backfires, and how much cushion a real timeline needs · Keeping one foot in the door when life gets hard — injury, work changes, hard seasons · The identity shift: becoming a person who trains, instead of someone who "did" the program · Comparison, filters and genetics — why the Olympia stage isn't your standard · A marathon that got missed by minutes, and what happened six months later

    What happens after the goal?

What Happens After the Goal — the post-competition blues nobody talks about. Welcome back to FitFuel: Behind the Check-in. Fresh off competing in Tulsa, Ashley Downes and Jordan Poteet get honest and vulnerable about what happens after you hit a big goal — when the show is over, the medal is won, the marathon is run, or the weight is lost… and suddenly you're left asking, "Now what?" This one isn't just for bodybuilders. Whether you just ran a marathon, finished your last season as a high school athlete, or finally hit a weight-loss goal, that post-goal "identity crisis" is real — and this episode is about how to move through it. In this episode we cover: Show recap — how Ashley and Jordan placed in Tulsa, and finding peace with the results The post-goal "lost" feeling and why an identity crisis is normal Growth mindset vs. goal mindset — "growth happens throughout your lifetime, not in short spurts" Why you shouldn't drop your structure (or your coach) the moment a goal ends The pressure of always being "the fit one" — and why it's often self-inflicted Why stage-lean isn't sustainable or healthy year-round Post-show struggles: late-night snacking, food guilt, and the "moral assessment" of eating The importance of a reverse diet and easing back to maintenance Why maintenance is often the HARDEST phase Binge episodes — and why the real issue is usually under-eating earlier in the day Building an identity beyond your sport, and finding hobbies outside fitness Ashley's knee injury story and rebuilding after a "division-ending" setback Choosing your seasons: planning life around what matters most (football games, family trips, holidays) Give yourself grace, be proud, then put new structure in place The big takeaway: one goal ending doesn't mean losing yourself. Find the piece of it worth keeping for the long haul — and keep growing. Real coaching. Real talk. Real results.
