Addressing student loneliness and isolation on college campuses

Traditionally, college campuses are epicenters of activity, connection, and engagement. So why are students feeling so isolated? 39% of students have reported feeling lonely. Loneliness remains an ongoing health crisis throughout the nation. United States Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has raised concerns about loneliness, sharing that a lack of connection can increase the risk for premature death. Today, we take a look at loneliness and isolation in the university setting, and hear how some colleges are working to address it. We also hear from students and learn about how they have addressed loneliness in their lives. Her new book What the Chicken Knows tackles one of the most common birds on the planet, but she argues that chickens are truly exceptional creatures. Although chickens have a reputation of being rather unintelligent creatures, they actually have distinct personalities and communities. When anxiety is high, it can be more important than ever to lean into self-care routines to manage stress. This show is great for CT residents, and I love it on WNPR. I have a hard time tuning in live because of the hours it airs, so I am very happy to see it as a podcast.

Host doing quietest ASMR voice while guests speak at a normal volume. This means you either have to constantly adjust the volume or get blasted with sound when the normal voices speak. Do they not listen once they’ve released it?

I LOVE this show, but I can’t listen to it because the host puts her mouth too close to the microphone, making her mouth noises (clicking or popping) unavoidable no matter what I do with the volume etc. I can’t listen anymore, which is too bad.
