The Mythcreant Podcast

I am benefitting from the Mythcreant website most of all because it contains so much helpful craft content. I already know how to put together a novel, but Mythcreants’ posts still help, even though I don’t write fantasy or sci-fi. The content is sound, lucid, and reflects a deep understanding of narratology. I also enjoy the podcast! I’m just a readaholic who is usually hunting for specific information that I can find by skimming, clicking, and taking notes. I am trying to figure out a way to compensate them for content without signing up for Patreon. I wish there were a “buy me a coffee” button (Apple Pay, please) or a book to purchase (?). I would love to give this show five stars. Because in many ways it deserves it. The information is fantastic, whether you are a writer or a dungeon master, you will find something in this podcast to enhance your craft. But the thing that it’s like popcorn in my teeth is the smugness, the snark, and the self satisfaction. There’s almost a level of arrogance the hosts have when they dismiss other people’s work. Or they label things “misogynist” or something else without providing any, details, or context or further information. I do recommend this show, but with the caveat listed above.

Love the website, the articles, the content—my only issue with this podcast is the audio quality. I’ve tried adjusting my car speakers, I’ve played out loud on my phone, used my best headphones and my jbl earbuds and it’s the same issues. For those who aren’t tortured with acute hearing like me, this probably won’t matter to you. But for others like me, I pray the podcasters will take my review into account (rare, but it can happen), put it through some audio editing (like a de-esser, for example). I’m super bummed because I was looking forward to listening to the podcast since I enjoy their websites articles. I hope this is improved in their future podcasts! :)
