Episode 367: Capable the Toddler Years with David and Sissy

Toddlers’ “I do it myself” moments aren’t defiance, they’re signs of healthy development and a deep drive for autonomy. When parents pause before stepping in, allow struggle, and offer both empathy and boundaries, they create space for confidence and capability to grow. David and Sissy talk about how separation, independence, and small responsibilities all play a key role in helping toddlers build trust, resilience, and the belief that “I can handle things.” Resources mentioned: The Connected Child by Dr. Karyn Purvis Braver, Stronger, Smarter by Sissy Goff The Daystar Dogs Series . . . . . .  Sign up to receive the bi-monthly newsletter to keep up to date with where David and Sissy are speaking, where they are taco'ing, PLUS conversation starters for you and your family to share! EP 45 - Let My Helpers Find Me with Kara Brothers

Kara Brothers is working on not always getting it right. Which may be a bit of a challenge for the mother of two who, as the President of Starface, has spent nearly the last 4 years boldly ushering the company into cult-like success. Kara and I sit down and discuss what it means to honor all of her different facets, the loneliness of struggling with her mental health postpartum, and how honoring her childlike self with an insatiable sense of yearning keeps her going. (We both really geek out over one another…listen until the end for me embarrassing myself gushing over Kara and our “Ask A Cool Mom” segment)

Tips for Building a Healthy Family (Part 1 of 2)

Dr. Gary Chapman and Dr. Shannon Warden compare family life to renovating a home — you need a good “blueprint” or plan for how you want your family to grow, and a solid foundation of godly character traits like kindness, love, forgiveness, building trust, building connection, and having fun together. Parents and kids need to be “all in” and working as a team to instill these traits into their relationships. Dr. Chapman also talks about the 5 Love Languages, and Dr. Warden shares several stories about parenting her own children.   Receive the book The DIY Guide to Building a Family That Lasts and an audio download of "Tips for Building a Healthy Family" for your donation of any amount! 6 days ago

Week 38: Be sanctified - Jesus

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2) All the people we have talked about this year are heroes of faith. Whether they were named or unnamed, their stories hold significance in God’s word, which is always worthy of our attention! As much as we want our kids to take on the characteristics of the people in this great cloud of witnesses, our primary desire is that our kids become like Jesus, our rabbi, friend, perfect king, and our Savior. We become more and more like Jesus as we spend more time with him. It’s the process of sanctification, or being made holy. We cannot be fully sanctified on this side of heaven, but the Holy Spirit does work within us as we surrender, obey, and return to him when we get it wrong. We are shaped to look more and more like Jesus. Our kids will make mistakes, struggle with sin, and face challenges. We all do; it’s part of living in a broken world. But as they become more like him, their responses to those things will change because becoming more like Jesus means choosing truth over lies, kindness over gossip, love over selfishness, and obedience over comfort. As we end this year of praying for our kids, let’s pray that our kids become like Jesus, that they live such a full life of faith that others will say, “They loved like Jesus loved.” Jesus, sanctify __________ through your Spirit. Shape their heart to reflect you in how they love, serve, follow, and obey. May they go to you every day and learn to talk with you and listen to your voice all day long. May they allow you to help them be more like you every day so that your light shines through them. Amen. How God Heals the Soul, Mind & Body :: Susie Larson *top 10 episode* [Ep 574]

What if the anxiety, chronic illness, and emotional struggles you’re carrying are connected to deeper wounds in the soul? In this powerful conversation, Susie Larson shares her deeply personal healing journey through childhood trauma, chronic illness, fear, and anxiety — and how God met her in the middle of it all. An author, national speaker, and radio host, Susie opens up about surviving physical and emotional abuse, battling Lyme disease while raising three young children, and learning how unhealed trauma impacts the body, mind, and spirit. Together, we discuss why so many women live in survival mode, how fear affects our physiology, and what it looks like to finally face the lies keeping us stuck. Susie shares how God revealed this life-changing truth to her: “The storms reveal the lies we believe and the truth we need.” If you’ve struggled with anxiety, chronic illness, emotional exhaustion, or feeling disconnected from yourself and from God, this episode offers hope, healing, and practical encouragement for the journey toward wholeness. We also talk about: How fear impacts the brain and body Why women often suppress pain until it shows up physically Learning to listen to your body instead of pushing through The importance of counseling, rest, and emotional processing Renewing your mind and rewiring fear-based thought patterns Why God cares about your whole health: body, mind, and soul How healing equips us to minister to a hurting world Connect with Susie Larson:  Website: Susie Larson  Instagram: Susie Larson (@susielarsonauthor) Facebook: Susie Larson Links Mentioned:  Fully Alive: By Susie Larson The Uncommon Woman: By Susie Larson Curt Thompson MD  Dr. Leaf Related Episodes: How to Stop Shame Spirals :: Dr. Curt Thompson [Summer of Mentorship Wk 6] Redeeming Shame through Community :: Dr. Curt Thompson [Ep 308] Freedom is Not a Look  :: Alisa Keeton [Ep 393]

Dr. Kathy Koch joins Sissy Goff and David Thomas to discuss the growing challenges facing today’s young adults and families, especially around resilience, identity, technology, and relationships between parents and adult children. Dr. Kathy explains how overparenting, screen dependence, fear of failure, and endless choices have contributed to anxiety, lack of perseverance, and “failure to launch” struggles, while also offering hope through intentional connection, healthy boundaries, faith, and small relational repairs. She encourages parents to stop leading from guilt, help kids practice making decisions and asking for help, create healthier technology rhythms, and focus on rebuilding trust and communication one step at a time. 'Just Put All Homework in the Bin' Georgia Jones & Kelsey Parker on Homework Meltdowns, Living Life & Everything In Between

This week on Mum's The Word, Georgia Jones and Kelsey Parker are back, and nothing is off-limits. Georgia gets emotional recounting Danny, her dad and Cooper's first ever three-generation golf trip (and admits to feeling a tiny bit of mum jealousy about it). Kelsey opens up about choosing to actually live life, why she's done with self-doubt, and how watching people relocate to Asia on TikTok is becoming dangerously tempting. Then it's the Top Five: things that shouldn't be homework. The answer? Everything. From impossible recycling projects to maths neither of them can do, they pitch a dream app where someone else builds your kid's school project for you: "Shit, but not too shit." Plus: Georgia's decade-old wedding thank you card confession, the joy of five minutes of silence in the car after drop-off, re-gifting etiquette, and the moment Georgia asks if Brazilian is a language? Grab a cuppa, get comfy, and join Georgia and Kelsey for another episode of Mum's The Word. A Create Podcast Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
