‘I Didn’t Expect Mother’s Day to Hurt This Much’ Georgia Jones & Kelsey Parker on March Madness, Swimming Lessons & Lying To Your Kids

This week on Mum’s The Word, Georgia Jones and Kelsey Parker are back for a honest catch-up… and this one goes a little deeper than usual. Kelsey opens up about the fourth anniversary of Tom’s passing and why the entire month of March feels overwhelming: from Brain Tumour Awareness Month to birthdays, Mother’s Day, and the emotional weight that comes with it all. She shares the reality of grief four years on, the pressure of public remembrance, and the small but powerful moments that still hit hardest. Meanwhile, Georgia reflects on loss in her own life, the strange emotions tied to memories, and the unexpected ways social media, even a trending song, can bring everything rushing back. But it’s not all heavy. The pair balance it out with the everyday chaos of mum life from school swimming lessons (and Georgia’s very real fear of swimming pool floors) to Easter holiday panic, juggling work with kids at home, and the ongoing debate of whether we’re all just running on empty. Plus, “We Listen & We Don’t Judge” is back, with more relatable parenting confessions, and the usual mix of laughter, honesty, and moments that will have you thinking, “same.” From grief and healing to verrucas, Crocs and complete life overwhelm… this is motherhood in all its messy reality. Grab a cuppa, get comfy, and join us for another episode of Mum's The Word A Create Podcast Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Week 30: Salvation - the thief on the cross

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:42–43) As Jesus was led to his crucifixion, he was surrounded by two men on crosses next to him, all three of them facing death. One man was mocking and doubting Jesus, but the other man turned to Jesus in his final moments and was promised eternity with Jesus. Although not much was shared in this interaction, the thief did proclaim Jesus was Lord. It’s a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to repent and accept Jesus. There is always hope; in fact, the Bible says that everyone who calls on his name will be saved (Romans 10:13). This story also reminds us that doing good works or earning our way to heaven is not what Jesus offered us; it is a free gift. As believing parents, our hope is that there is more distance between our kids’ salvation and their death than there was for the thief on the cross. We know that true peace, joy, and hope is found in following Jesus, and we want our kids to have that for a lifetime; we want them to experience a full life of faith. We want them to spend many years drawing others to faith. However, we must never count out a child that is full of sin and far from God. God is still reaching for them up until their last breath. This week, let’s pray that our kids accept the free gift of salvation and spend their lives following Jesus. Jesus, thank you for the gift of salvation. Lord, please draw __________ to you. Help them to understand what following you means, that there is nothing they can do to make you love them less or more, and that you give them the gift of peace on earth now and eternal life with you later. Discipling our kids doesn’t have to be intimidating with Sarah Holmstrom

As part of our Best of The Christian Parenting Podcast series, we’re revisiting some of our most helpful and encouraging conversations for families. Discipling our kids to know, love, and follow Jesus is one of the most important callings of Christian parenting, but it can also feel complex and uncertain. In this episode, Sarah Holmstrom shares wisdom on what discipleship can look like in everyday family life. We talk about how to approach discipleship with kids who have different personalities, what daily faith formation can look like at home, and why praying for our children truly matters. Sarah and Steph also share personal experiences from their years of ministry encouraging families to make prayer and spiritual growth a natural part of the rhythms of home life. Sarah serves alongside Steph in the ministry Raising Prayerful Kids, and they co-authored the book of the same name, helping parents nurture a culture of prayer in their homes. “We’re Asking Fathers to Do the Impossible” with Dr Anna Machin

We are joined by Dr Anna Machin - evolutionary anthropologist, author and one of the leading voices on modern fatherhood. Anna’s work explores the biology, anthropology and emotional realities of being a dad, and how men’s brains, hormones and identities change when they become fathers. We often call her the godmother of dads - because few people have done more to understand, advocate for and humanise the role of fathers in the modern world. Anna is currently writing her next book on fatherhood, and in this conversation we explore what science and evolution can teach us about the essential role of dads today. Episode 180:Helen Dukes

Helen Dukes is an entrepreneur and DJ, and mum to 2 daughters, 11 year old Anya and 19 year old Lottie .  She is the founder of Disko Kids, a clothes and accessories brand that I love for its roots in music, festivals, sparkles and fun.  It also has at its heart a deep connection with charities such as Winston’s Wish. This child bereavement charity helped Helen navigate the death of her partner Ade when their daughter Lottie was just 3.  Helen told me how she strove to create video memories of Ade for Lottie, which was very hard for Ade at the time, but which Lottie really appreciates now, aged 19. We talked about being a female founder and the passion for her business that has kept her going throughout the past 10 years. Helen says that Disko Kids is like her third child - frustrating at times but she loves it to bits. I know that feeling all too well!  Spinning Plates is presented by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, produced by Claire Jones and post-production by Richard Jones. Hosted on Acast. Parenting Through Divorce: Helping Kids Heal, Co-Parent Well & Trust God :: Vaneetha Risner [Ep 565]

How do you parent your kids through a story they didn’t choose? In this honest and hope-filled conversation, Vaneetha Risner shares her journey of raising two adolescent daughters as a single mom after divorce. She opens up about the pressure to “hold everything together,” the tension of co-parenting with different values, and the deep questions kids ask about God in the middle of pain. This episode offers practical wisdom and biblical encouragement for all moms, reminding us that while we can’t control our children’s stories, we can faithfully shepherd their hearts—and trust God to restore what has been lost. Here is some of what we cover:  The balance between sharing too much vs. hiding your emotions Navigating co-parenting with different rules and values The importance of community when you feel alone You don’t have to have all the answers—sometimes “I don’t know” is enough Parenting is a long game—trust God with the outcome Connect with Vaneetha Risner:  Website: Vaneetha Risner Facebook: Vaneetha Rendall Risner Instagram: Vaneetha Risner (@vaneetharisner) Links Mentioned:  This Was Never the Plan: Walking with God Through the Heartache of Divorce: By Vaneetha Rendall Risner Walking Through Fire: A Memoir of Loss and Redemption: By Vaneetha Risner The Scars That Have Shaped Me: How God Meets Us in Suffering: By Vaneetha Risner Related Episodes: How to Never Miss Out :: Vaneetha Risner [Ep 402] RWYB Series wk 1 Walking Thru Divorce :: Lara Williams [Ep 324] How God Personally Pursues and Redeems :: Jenn Jett [Ep 193] Featured Sponsors:  Wayfair: Find furniture, decor, and essentials that fit your unique style and budget.
