Why Does the Bible Have a Whole Book About Meaninglessness?

David opened his Ecclesiastes 3 sermon by telling the congregation that God is really a problem. It was intentional. It’s also the only reasonable way to start a sermon on the most honest, uncomfortable book in the Bible. Back from the youth camp break, Pastor David Chauncey and Pastor Richie Baldwin recap what they preached through Ecclesiastes chapters 2 and 3 — work and identity, the seasons of life, God settling every score, and where Solomon’s long pondering on meaning points when you follow it all the way to the Logos becoming flesh.

Horace wrote Carpe Diem around 60 BC. Most people quote the first part. The full phrase is: seize the day, and put no trust in tomorrow. That’s Ecclesiastes 9. What Does the Bible Say About Christian Unity?

In the final section of His longest recorded prayer, Jesus stops praying for the eleven disciples in front of Him and starts praying for people He’d never meet.
