Listen With Keith Morrison
Keith Morrison is a distinguished media journalist, host, and anchor, best known for his pairing of captivating storytelling with his unique, one-of-a-kind voice on Dateline NBC. Born in Saskatchewan, Canada, Morrison’s broadcasting career began in the 1960s with Canadian networks like the CBC and CTV News. Morrison moved south to New York’s NBC in the 1990s. Today, after over five decades in broadcast media, Morrison is internationally revered for his role as host and investigator on the television show and podcast, Dateline NBC, which covers true crime cases that intersect with human interest stories.
According to Morrison, turning Dateline stories into podcasts wasn’t originally his idea. “Liz Cole (Senior Executive Producer of Dateline) approached me with the idea of turning our years of reporting about Pam Hupp into a multi-episode podcast series. Initially, I was a bit skeptical since our primary focus has always been television. However, as we dove into the process, I discovered just how enjoyable and fulfilling it was to tell a story in audio format.”
His exceptionally soothing, warm voice and witty delivery quickly earned him cult-favourite status in podcasting — and Morrison, as it turned out, began to love audio too. “Audio storytelling allows for a different kind of narrative pace — you can dive into the nuances of a story and explore it in greater detail without the time constraints of a one- or two-hour broadcast.” Through Morrison's newfound love of podcasting and audiences' love of him, Dateline continued to expand, launching more than half a dozen standalone narrative true crime series hosted by Keith Morrison himself, including Mommy Doomsday and The Thing About Pam.
Regardless of his creative forays, Dateline NBC remains Morrison's favorite project of all time. “It’s been the highlight of my career, not just because of the stories we’ve told, but because of the people I’ve had the privilege to work with. Many of us have been here for years, even decades, and we've truly become like a family. The sense of camaraderie and shared passion for storytelling makes every project great to work on.”
