An Old Ghost Story: The Turn of the Screw (Part 1)

Follow along with me as I read this classic ghost story - I'm sure we'll have more than a few shared scares! Tonight, we begin Henry James' chilling "The Turn of the Screw" with the Introduction, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. We get the whole creepy origin and set-up to infamous Bly, and more than a few hints to it's mystery are already peppered in! We get a frightful amount of set up - Douglass has gathered a curious group around the fire in an old house to tell the story of Bly out of a red gilt manuscript. We (through the beautiful handwriting of the governess) meet Mrs. Grouse and little Flora, and get a grand little tour of the big house… which feels like a ship adrift at sea it seems. We also learn that young Miles has been kicked out of school, and that the previous governess has died. Mysteriously. And that’s about as much as Mrs. Grouse will let on! This tale, "The Turn of the Screw" by Henry James is read in a soft voice and set to some light and eerie background music. I do hope you enjoy the this evening's start into an old ghost story! A Frozen Fairytale: The Story of King Frost

Can you withstand the wrath and icy breath of King Frost? I probably couldn't, and I'm extremely glad to be reading this chilly frosty tale from a blanket fort of my own! BUT it is in line with the snowy wintery weather that is creeping up, so grab some hot cocoa and join me for tonight's fairy tale: "The Story of King Frost!" Come for the story, stay for the prophetic talking barking doggie! Once upon a time there was a wicked stepmother, who loved her own daughter so much, but cared little for her husband's daughter. Ah yes, how well we know this tale! BUT this one has a wintery twist! I was getting "Snow Queen" and "Frozen" vibes very very strongly through this reading. Anyway, we follow a young kind girls who gets dumped off in the forest to freeze (by her father! On her stepmother's wish!) and is instead... not frozen, but rewarded due to her polite and humble nature. You know where this is going. The stepmother wants the same reward for her own daughter, and well... let's just read the rest together, shall we? This Russian fairytale, "The Story of King Frost," (or "The Story of the Frost King" is read in a soft voice (with some light chatter and commentary - I am human and not a robot) and set to some light and soft background music. I do hope you enjoy the this evening's wintery fairytale!
